The thing is, DIO separate his head off from his original body and took Jonathan's body (the 1st Joestar from JJBA: Phantom Blood) so in a sense DIO had the genes of Joestar. And when DIO did the thing to the random woman (which resulted on Giorno's being into life) Giorno himself is like part Joestar. Honestly, Joestar's tree family is pretty messed up, really.
