Born in Donosti, grew up in Pasaia, Gipuzkoa has so many beautiful towns to visit on the coast: Hondarribia, Pasaia, Zarautz, Getaria, Zumaia, Deba, Mutriku... and inland Bergara, Azpeitia, Arantzazu, Beasain, Altzo and so many more!! You get the beautiful coast and lush green mountains all so close to each other!! Sagardotegis (cider houses) in Astigarraga right outside Donostia is a must

My mother's family name is Araoz and they are Basque from Araotz which is a city within Gipuzkoa. At least that is what I've been told.

Just found out that my father's family originated from Gipuzkoa, then migrated to Nuevo Leon in Mexico, then to the United States.

I’m curious why the Gipuzkoa, Oñate Garibai “district” is named such. I understand what it means but not who started the barrio. Were the first people living in that town named Garibai or did they have other last names. If so do you know who the founders are? My last name is Garibay. Who could I be related to or from what lineage? Lazzaragus? Mondragon?

Here's a random idea for a video series. Rick Steves' travel guide says that 2 days is sufficient to see the Basque Country. I love Rick Steves a ton, I've called into his show a couple times, but... BLASPHEMY. Maybe you could do a series called "Two days in Euskadi for _____." Nature lovers, foodies, sports fans, bicyclists, history nerds, etc. You could roll in b-roll with pictures, googlemaps, Airbnb, turn it into a little itinerary. To make the work easier for you, you could ask your audience to send in their own itineraries. Or just ask them to share some of their favorite off-the-beaten path places.

AND THEN... compile a bunch of these into a guidebook. 52 Weekends In Euskadi. Use Blurb to sell/dropship physical copies off your site. I'll totally be your first customer.

Garin, you are full of good ideas! I really need to get on something like this. Could be fun :) Adding this to my list of potential projects

@@HellaBasque Cool! These are your ideas now, I don't like giving with strings attached. But... I kinda want to help with this one now! Plus we already have a customer with Haven Adventurer. Let me know if/when you want to do it, it would be an awesome project! I started a googledoc with ideas for it.

Just found your Chanel and subscribed..I wanted to ask how the basque people are doing with this whole coronavirus situation. Do you think they are more at risk to this virus because of their rh negative blood type? Or do you believe being a rare blood type will help them in the sense maybe their bodies will be able to fight this virus better than other blood types?
@HellaBasque4 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for subscribing to the channel! Such interesting questions I wish I were qualified to answer! I've seen headlines that people with type A blood are more likely to get the coronavirus than people with type O, but I haven't seen anything about the Rhesus factor yet. Either way, I think researchers still need to do more studies before any definitive theories come through. Keep an eye on the news, there might be some interesting discoveries in this area.
@user-lb3up4rq2i4 жыл бұрын
@@HellaBasque Yes I agree! And I hope this doesnt affect those people with negative blood type more...because my father has a negative blood type and I get worried for him. Also I do remember reading something a while ago about the negative blood type that said they belive the reason the basque people are the biggest group with that blood type was because people with that blood type have died off and it could be they are the ones who have survived because they are a bit more secluded and tend to stick together. But idk I hope they do studies about this subject!!
