Welcome to Giraffe - ic Park. This is the moment a jeep full of terrified safari tourists was attacked by a huge bull giraffe. The two-and-a-half tonne giraffe chased and kicked the safari vehicle with safari tourists in for two miles - just like the T-rex in hit movie Jurassic Park. The 13-ft male giraffe is believed to have had an hormonal imbalance which triggered the raging giraffe attack in South Africa. The dramatic footage of the giraffe attacking tourists on safari in South Africa was captured by cameraman Rainer Schimpf during a trip to South Africa.

I'm sorry...but doesn't it just seem incredibly risky to drive a car with no cover on top or a car with easy access for a lion, cheetah, hyena, to just jump right in and attack??? Or any other big animal. Just always wondered why these Safari trucks are made like that.

Lions, hyenas , leopards and cheetahs generally tend to ignore safari vehicles unless provoked and don’t really see them as a threat let alone food. Though sometimes cheetahs will jump into the cars and just hang out for a while and lions will actually use the jeeps as cover to help them hunt depending on the circumstances

That's how male giraffes act when the mating season rolls around. They get pumped full of testosterone so they try to attack anything they see, partly to prove their strength and partly to impress the ladies.

The hormonal imbalance isn't some kind of "excuse" or "blame shifting" thing the narrator came up with on the spot, which seems to be what most of the commenters here appear to be thinking--it's a natural occurrence for giraffes. Male giraffes get extremely aggressive during the mating season and I'm assuming that it was mating season here. So this giraffe isn't somehow intelligent enough to think "Humans are evil monsters who only come here to mock us poor oppressed animals, I must drive them out". Rather, if he's thinking anything, it's most likely "I'M ANGRY AND HORNY SO I'M GONNA FIGHT THE FIRST THING I SEE TO PROVE MY DOMINANCE!"

Not exactly. If you've ever been on a game drive on one of these safari's, you'd know that these animals are used to people in jeeps. It's not a "rude invasion" unless you threatened the animal, which they didn't. These giraffes see people multiple times a day, it's nothing new for them. It's only if you go on foot that they get scared.

I was in a situation similar to this but the giraffes didn’t show any signs of an attack we were on a safari and two stopped in the middle of the road so we had to wait twenty minutes to get someone out there and lure them away so they can get out of the road, but our delay was pretty entertaining bc another giraffe was entertaining us while the delay was happening

"Hormonal imbalance" is the scientific phrasing of "it's the mating season and his body is pumping him full of testosterone that makes him both super mad and super horny". Like, I don't get why the comments are acting like this is some kind of "victim blaming" thing or something, it's just how giraffe biology works. The giraffe is a male who's going through his breeding patterns and thus is naturally starting to get extremely aggressive, partly 'cause everything looks like a potential rival to him and partly because he wants to show off his strength to the ladies. Tl;dr: The giraffe's just angry and horny. It's not that deep.

It's a wild animal, that Giraffe is just protecting its territory or whatever else. The Giraffe is spooked and wants them out of it's way/territory. Plus the tourists could've got too close for the Giraffes own confort and the Giraffe felt threatened. :|

Actually, it's not a Jeep, it looks like a Land Cruiser 4.5, in which case the generic name in common use for the vehicle class would best be "jeep." OK, I know that's pedantic, but I think my Jeep would outrun a giraffe anytime.
