@@bronzite_At least the American league is happy shohei ohtani left cause he has a lot of competition in the national League which is harder to win MVP.. he's not winning MVP until he pitches!! You can't win MVP being just DH in this era unless he hits 60+ Homers that will never happen he gets injured too much..

Josh Naylor, with his second straight yr of a 130+ wRC+, should be ahead of Hoskins, Pasquintino, Nate Lowe, and Casas. A 14% k rate, .308 batting average and .350+ OBP with a solid glove should absolutely get you in the top ten. I mean, he praised Olson for “never striking out” with a 23% k rate and Naylor was at 14%!!! Cmon man

@davidwindell
@davidwindell 4 ай бұрын
@@Charlie_Stuart even if he was praising the k/bb ratio, Naylor is still right there. Olson is 23/13.5, Naylor is 14/7.6. That’s almost the same, and the raw K rates are dramatically different. Sure Naylor could take more walks, but he has an excellent contact rate and his .350+ OBP is plenty good enough. He’s a top 10 1B without a doubt. Olson, IMO, is #2. I think Naylor should be 6-7.

Mountcastle also missed a lot of time this year with a freak bout of Vertigo. Slashed .322/.404/.489 in the second half with a 150 OPS+ in the second half when he was healthy. I highly doubt the Orioles move on from him tbh. Yes we have some guys that could replace him (Santander/O’Hearn/Kjerstad) but Santander and O’Hearn are FA at the end of the year and the FO wants to keep Kjerstad in the OF.

I am a Braves fan, been one since Gerald Perry. I know I am not being biased when I say Matt Olson is the MLB best 1st baseman. Olson 7.4 WAR 54 HR 127 R 139 RBI .993 OPS 162 OPS+. Freeman just a more superior BA at .331. Both had an awesome season in 2023, it’s just Olson’s overall production and performance was better than Freeman. Technically, Freeman is 1B and Olson is 1A, then there’s just the rest of the MLB 1st baseman

Rizzo at 20 is VERY harsh considering he was outstanding prior to the concussion. If the thought is that he just won't be healthy, I can fully understand, but that was not the main reasoning given. It was that he "started to take a few steps back," which was simply not the case prior to the concussion. He was hitting .304 with a .376 OBP and .880 OPS with 11 HRs in 53 games before he got hurt. Then he played through it for months. Not saying he should be top 10 by any means, but he needs to be in the 15 range.

Rizzo got fucked by our medical staff, dropping him down that much is a bit insane. Its wild he was allowed to play for two more months while clearly struggling with something physically. His numbers dropped because he wasnt healthy, not because hes actually getting worse. He was having a really strong year until the concussion, i think its unfair to drop him into the bottom half of the list when he can still absolutely produce at a top 10 level. Like there was a very clear performance drop after the collision with Tatis, its just not right to say you want to see better from him when he was doing really well before the injury. If he was properly managed maybe he wouldve been treated correctly and returned healthy during the season instead of having his season ended because they didnt realize he was struggling with post concussion symptoms.

Astros fan here. I know as well as anybody that Jose Abreu struggled last season. That being said, I don't agree with your assertion that he only had that many RBIs cuz he was in the right part of the lineup. Look at his 2023 splits, he was huge for the Astros in clutch situations; he batted .275 with a .900 OPS with RISP, and over 1.000 with a runner on second or third. Also, he was MUCH better post-all star break, and was lights out in October. I fully expect an Abreu revival in 2024.

at a certain point you gotta consider giving the first ever tie for first place. matt olson and freddie freeman were just absolutely ludicrous last year. mookie's august and ronnie's... every day overshadowed them in NL MVP voting but goddamn. you can't even argue that they aren't the two best first basemen in the league and there's so little distinguishing them besides matt's home run absurdity and freddie's inability to stay *off* the base pass by and large.

@@williamstankiewicz3073The Mets*** I know spelling is hard. Not as hard as understanding you have zero say. Spend all the money you want and even if owners listened to fans, we the fans disagree. Fan 1) sign Alonso fan 2) don’t sign Alonso. If that’s the case then the guys with the money and responsible with money make the decisions. Drives me nuts reading comments from you people who think you own a team and have a say. So unbelievably cringe. End of the day if you don’t have a say it’s not your.

Idk if Bryce Harper is a better first baseman than Freddie or Olson but I’d take him as a player over them
@fullcircle8231
@fullcircle8231 7 ай бұрын
@Cubs-bm9wc why? You'd like to see your star player throw temper tantrums over called strikes? Because that's about all he's good at doing. There's a difference between bringing energy, and bringing your emotions... and Harper is firmly in the latter of the two.

@@fullcircle8231 Harper doesn’t even get mad anymore and if he does it’s if it’s the dumbest call ever. Harper knows when he’s right or wrong. Plus I’d rather have the best current postseason hitter over two guys who didn’t show up at all this postseason for the two best teams in the NL

As a Mariner fan, you’re absolutely right about how bad 2023 Ty France was. I have high hopes for 2024 because he’s working at Driveline this offseason. If anybody can get Ty back to his 2021-2022 ways, it’s Driveline

His underlying stats weren't that bad last season either (aside from a drop in exit velo), so I reckon he will have some sort of bounce back. As long as he stays healthy

Orioles would be crazy to trade Mountcastle with their farm system
@brandondillman5841
@brandondillman5841 7 ай бұрын
they might. Kjerstad and Santander can play 1st. O'Hearn destroyed right handed pitching and Samuel Basallo is flying through the farm system and projects to be a first baseman. If trading Mountcastle can get them a good starter I'd do it.

@@brandondillman5841 santander has very little experience at 1B and as good as I think Kjerstad will be, he still hasn’t proven himself at the MLB level yet. I wasn’t aware that Basallo also plays 1B but as good as he will be, I don’t think he’ll be in the majors for a bit. Mounty is young and still has multiple years of team control, and unless they can get a bona fide ace, I don’t think they should trade him. I just don’t see a trade happening where Mounty is the deal breaker

Rizzo is a little low even in a down year. He was basically 2 players last season - pre and post concussion. pre concussion he was a top 10 first baseman

As a Mariner fan, I expected to see France closer to 24 than where you put him! I hope he honors the optimism you showed and regains his stroke. BTW, he started having issues in the second half of ‘22 after a collision at 1st base that pulled his elbow back. He has regressed badly since that point.
