I called out sick one day last year and as I’m walking home from the supermarket I saw my Department’s VP parked in front of a building near me. Dude doesn’t even live in the 5 boroughs and the office is in Manhattan. How the hell he ended up in my borough 😒

Sick days can also be mental wellness days. If you just need a break from your workplace to recharge and you have sick days, it's a good idea to take a day off. You'll come back refreshed and better equipped for work!

I’m triggered! Their privilege jumped out! 99% of these companies us regular folks work for do not give a DAMN about us okay?! Like at all. We are very replaceable & they make that clear! So if I’m slaving all year or for months and haven’t used my sick days yet what the hell yall want us to do with them? Waste them? Most bosses even encourage you to use em up seeing as they do not roll over into the next year and the company will survive! If a place is offering 10 sick days a year & vacation days I can guarantee they ain’t being effected by you taking the sick days that they offered whether or not you’re really sick. Take a mental wellness day y’all or several, these companies ain’t worth your mental health!

Yes, you have every right to take your "sick days" and you should not be "punished" for them. However, many employers (not companies...the management in the companies) will somehow "punish" you for them by giving you a bad schedule for the next while etc. It's the *fear* of calling in sick that prevents people to do so, because scheduling etc. is outside of "employment law" guarantees. Middle management always assumes that if an employee calls in sick they are "abusing the privilege" of the set amount of sick days (yet they do not put in protocol to prevent abuse of the system like doctors notes for multiple missed shifts due to illness) - unfortunately they are right some of the time when it comes to temporary employees but they apply this to even people who have worked for the company for multiple years. This is because these types of jobs are often the "lower paying" and "non-skilled" jobs such as working at a grocery store, a gas station, or as a server.

For the sick leave - alot of companies will not allow staff to take annual leave if other staff are on leave or is a busy time of year (sometimes this can leave you with not having a holiday at all in a year). Sometimes you NEED to take that sick leave as the only way to have a break or day off for your own wellbeing. Its not about being grateful you have a job, its about caring about yourself

I remember seeing an email on the internet that an employee sent to her employer stating she was taking a much needed mental health day. Her employer was so supportive and even encouraged other employees to take their mental health seriously.

I am incredibly blessed at my job. We have one sick day a month. I also have 5 personal/mental health days per year and I’ve been working at my job for 11 years and I have five weeks holidays. I work in childcare. I am very grateful for what I have.

I work 40 hours a week at a call center, we don’t get paid time off until we work there for a year, I’ve requested days off because I needed a break, got denied. This job is stressful and we get points for calling out, showing up and leaving early, I think there should be mental well-being days per month if they choose and if they don’t, add it to the next month.

I have 40 hours for my work. BUT I LEGIT only use mines for my 2 year old daughter! I use those sick pay hours to take my daughter to her appointments, when she IS sick and cannot go to daycare. I am a single mother so if she cannot go to daycare then I cannot go to work. SO I strictly save my hours for those emergencies!

Company I worked for closed doors and hundreds of us were out of jobs just like that no prior warning. Didn't use many of my sick days/hours and obviously those hours were lost and not paid. Take care of yourself, is not worth it.

It was me a manager 1 person on the grill and we had to call 2 people from another store because we were so understaffed. Its also important to remember that for parents its extremely important to have sick days. If you have more than one child... You have to ne home with them. The amount of abusers is way less than the amount of legitimate adults that need those days. Well at least in my experience.
