Surely they legally have to be investigated and help the police? This is crazy that you would witness a death or disappearance then run away and refuse to help the police. Surely they have to give statements as they are witness to a crime?
@SmegInThePants10 ай бұрын
@@aurora6920 that's precisely why its so suspicious they left so quickly, because one possible motive that immediately occurs to a listener of this story when hearing that they quickly left the country, is that they did so precisely to avoid being under the jurisdiction and laws of the local police which might have the right to force them to cooperate in various ways, or hold them accountable for deliberate or negligent behavior. But if they leave the country before the police can act to keep them in their jurisdiction, a race against the local police, they can avoid such things. Now that they are out of country, they are unreachable by the local police, out from under their jurisdiction, and it would take diplomatic levels of cooperation to get them back in the local interrogation room of the police in guatemala, which depending on treaties and such might be impossible/unlikely, but in the very least - much less likely than if they had stayed. It reeks of panic and fear and an attempt to avoid being in a situation where they can be forced to cooperate in just the manner you describe. In the very least its behavior consistent w/that idea. And even if it fails and they eventually have to make statements or participate in some way in the investigation, they have certainly in the very least bought themselves a lot of time to consider a careful response, to talk to a lawyer, to protect themselves from whatever it is they fear might happen.

@@aurora6920 An accidental drowning isn't a crime, so they're not legally compelled to speak with police. Also, this happening in Guatemala but the witnesses being American citizens who are now back in America just makes it more complicated. I'm pretty sure Guatemala would need some sort of direct evidence that a crime occurred and then convince the US to extradite the suspects.

It's extremely distressing to me that she still hasn't been found... it's been months and I don't know if its reasonable to assume she is alive even if she just.. got lost or injured. And these people weren't strictly close friends or anything but that doesn't make their continued silence less suspicious. If I knew a woman went missing on a trip with me I would tell them every single detail i knew about that trip. Even details that might not seem relevant. It seems like an area people might be able to get lost taking a scenic walk or get injured hiking etc The silence makes this seem MUCH more sinister. The fact that this group didn't have a protocol to keep track of every member and LEFT THE COUNTRY WITHOUT HER EARLY is alarming and I don't trust anyone who went with her. Without their input it seems like the case feels... hopeless and I have so much compassion for Nancy and her family. I hope so desperately that she's okay and returns home. This is such a suspicious case. It's frightening to know that she likely felt much safer taking a vacation like this because she was in a fairly large group of people she knew. Traveling alone as a woman - particularly as an asian woman - can be really dangerous and it just feels so sinister that they just...all clammed up and abandoned a member. If theyd returned as usual on schedule and had lokked forbher the entire time it wouldn't be so mortifying I i think. I think they should all be considered suspects in her disappearance. Or at least held accountable for their refusal to engage with authorities to help find her. I just....hate this. #whereisNancyNg

Flights get changed all the time and the group leaving doesnt seem suspicious. Shes 29. It's not like a group of children.
@hllywdunddnnpnt10 ай бұрын
@somethingclever8916 Flights do get canceled or changed all the time, whether its the airline or the purchaser of the ticket (plans change). I don't think anyone is saying that because 1 or more members left early is suspicious on it's own, but the rest of the evidence does. Regardless of whether the earlier flight/s was suspicious or not; - Why did the group leave without paying, flights being rebooked to earlier flights isn't suspicious on its own, but when they leave without paying any outstanding bills (in that country) like accomadation, or notifing their host that they're leaving early. That does sound suspicious to me. Who would book a trip they can't afford! - Why were the retreaters unwilling to communicate with authorities and help - Why did the "witness" leave the country and keep quiet all this time, ignoring the families cries. A small group of stangers/acquaintances go on a yoga retreat, where at some point they go kayaking on a lake as a group, 2 people seperate from the group and disappear from view, only one returns and the retreat goes on like normal. The retreater that returned on her own, now claims that Nancy drowned, that she tried to find her but couldn't and claims that she alerted the local authorities, which kind seems like they brushed her off, based on the statement. If that was the case I find it hard to believe that the instructor or the other retreaters would have not known or found out that she drowned, notice she was missing. Surely if 2 people seperated from a small group, that the group would notice their abscense and notice the return of 1 without the other. Someone paying to go on a yoga retreat, surely that someone not present in the late evening / night time would raise suspicion or atleast curiosity. On a 7 day retreat with a small group, even if they were complete strangers, you would think they would get to know each other on some level, on a first name basis. The group gets together but one's missing, surely you would atleast wonder where the missing person is. I can't remember the exact number, but I'm pretty sure the video stated that she wasn't reported missing until hours later. I know that if I saw someone fall off their kayak and couldn't see them after that, I would atleast look and wait until they got back on their kayak, I wouldn't just turn my back and forget about it (not knowing whether they got back on their kayak), if I then searched and couldn't find them, I'd report it right away. I would be asking questions, make sure people in the area know of the missing person, so they can keep an eye out for that person. I think it was the instructor that claimed he left on the day that he had pre-planned so he posted his plane ticket to prove that he did leave as planned, but then a tiktoker was able to find his receipt (based off the info the instractor released), which proved that he canceled and rebooked an early flight. In the extremely unlikely case that any retreater left, without knowing of Nancy's disappearance, surely they would find out quickly when they got home, whether its news, socialmedia or the authorities trying to contact them for any information. I can't remember all the details so if I've got a fact wrong, then feel free to correct me. But it baffles me how anyone could not see this as suspicious.
