Halfway through this video, I am not sure what Alex's family had done. It was her husband who kept making reckless decisions and killed himself for no reason. The vast majority of people don't think clearly when traumatic events happen and it's not uncommon for people to then get fixated on the wrong things/people. She might also be repressing what happened to her beforehand as well on top of a few other things that could be going on. But, in this case, it's just a case of "movie's gotta movie". If she takes revenge on those who already know her, then the movie doesn't work and is over in 5 minutes when they call the cops. It's stupid, but they were going for that "surprise reveal" more than anything that made sense.

The dealer worked on it multiple times but they were never able to solve the problem and finally they proposed to just fuse the real wheels so they wouldn't turn; in other words like a regular car.
