Yeah, a good friend of mine is in wheelchair (car crash I think) and when we met first time, it was in some group meeting. So everyone was walking on eggshell around him, but I noticed he likes to joke around, and when he introduced himself as "Speedy" (because he's in "wheels" I guess) I told him I hope that's not what girls call him. So he started laughing and we've been friends ever since.

Also I worked in high school (still do as part time teacher) so I am use to talking to students who are disabled both physically and mentally. I had plenty of students who would for example look perfectly fine, but when they start speaking you pick up they actually have some syndrome, so you have to adjust accordingly.

My step dad (best man ever) gave me a whole diff view on how people in wheelchairs were. He was a quadriplegic. He also made more jokes about his position than I ever have heard anyone make the jokes and went by the nickname sir gimpy. He hated bein put in a box of his disability and was in wheelchair rugby and was very intense about it. He was a great role model in reminding me that my disabilities dont need to stop me from achieving my goals and wants in life. If it werent for him I wouldnt be where I am now. I miss that man so much and wish he was still on this earth to speak with!

Don’t worry guys. As someone who’s in a wheelchair myself, I understand! It is 100% different to date someone with a disability let alone in a wheelchair. There’s a lot of things we cannot do and that can take a toll on relationship! It’s okay to not want to date someone who’s in a wheelchair. My uncle is in a wheelchair. It's always funny watching people try not to say anything about it. He cracks jokes about it and makes them uncomfortable. Meanwhile we crack stair jokes or threaten to cut his brakes. People in wheelchairs know they're in a wheelchair, you don't have to pretend it doesn't exist.

Yeah I would think as long as your intent isn't to be malicious, being in a wheelchair doesn't affect peoples sense of humor. Though maybe its because people don't know where others are in their journey.. they could be at a place where they don't care anymore, or it can be recent and raw for them, and you never know who is who at first.
