The whole cannibalism thing felt like a giant metaphor for men objectifying women and victimizing them, consuming them in pieces (body & soul) - that they need to realize they don’t need men (lesbian) and have to be their own heroes. This is reflected in truly emasculating the main enemy and smashing in the head of the woman who’s betrayed her own gender (though she too lost pieces of herself in the toxic relationship). Our protagonist was only pretending to like him, but his wife “loved” him despite knowing what a monster he was and actively worked to protect and acquire new victims (Stockholm syndrome perhaps, without more insight into that character’s psychology). The cannibalism acting as a metaphor for sex/exploitation/abuse = consumption.
