For instance women by age constantly call me attractive, if you asked 10 random women and showed them pics of me, I almost guarantee at least 8/10 would say they found me attractive; because that how it’s always been. Yet I don’t find myself attractive, I see flaws in myself that nobody else does, and I strive for perfection. So ugly to me and ugly to another person, are two different things.

Uglies is just a reference to those who haven’t received the surgery. The surgery is meant to make everyone their ideal perfection with no conflict. This was their solution it’s more than that though it’s about the control as well. XD the last book in the series steps away and moves on to a society of streaming for likes clicks and views set further passed this era. Not everyone’s cup of tea xD the next one will be called pretties most likely then specials I forgot the last books name lmao apparently sequel is in the works rn for Netflix if you watch it and are upset about the ending that’s how it ended in the book (slightly alterations on some characters cough cough) it leads into pretties the next novel.

Frankly some of it reminds me of both the Twilight Zone and a certain television show that's now on Disney that used to be first on Fox and then it was on I forgot which cable channel it was called the Orville the Oroville goes to pick up some scientists that were left behind on a certain planet that looks like it's close to being capable of being brought into their equivalent of a federation but they soon discover that the people there are all about likes and if you don't get enough likes you can be eliminated literally. But before you get to that point if you've lost enough points you can lose your house your job etc etc etc...

This was actually one of the most strict cities, usually other cities let uglies and pretties mingle together and let pretties choose what they wanted and such. It wasn't carbon copies in other cities. This one is like the extremist city that won't let anybody leave.

A much more believable story would be this one. At age 13(approx. when entering puberty) everyone is subject to three tests. 1. Physical appearance 2. Intelligence 3. Genetic purity Failure of any one requires mandatory sterilization. This would improve the genetic pool in 10~20 generations. I am sure there is a SciFi story in there somewhere.

i read this book, was pretty good. I preffered the book angle of using nanobots to reverse the control, but a second pill is needed to stop the bots from eating the brain.
