It was WISE that you resisted the temptation to pet or hand-feed them. Definitely improved their likelihood of survival in the wild. When I've helped orphaned squirrels in the past, I wondered if they recognized me by sight, scent, or my voice. But they could definitely differentiate me from other humans.
@orangebeagle3068

Was it wise? When I volunteered at a wildlife animal shelter, we would bottle feed the baby squirrels until they hit a certain age where they naturally got wary of us and started to hiss at us. I don’t know if this was because we didn’t spend a lot of time with them outside of feeding though.

In florida we have netting around our patios and near that patio was a tree and once a mom squirrel got stuck in there so we kept leaving out food for her and when she got free she would come back often. Then she suddenly stopped and we thought she got bored or something. A month later she comes back with two babies!!! After a while the mom either died or stopped coming but her babies recognized all 10 of my family members and would never be scared of us!! I'd play with the neighborhood kids in my backyard and when I would see them they would watch me play with the other kids and when the kids would leave the bbabies would come and chill with me on the grass next to their tree :) it was awesome

Red squirrels are real cutie-pies. In the UK, the native Red population has been ousted in many places by the 'import' American Grey, which are a lot bigger. There's a Red Squirrel sanctuary reserve in Formby, Lancashire ( near Liverpool ) with pathways through it so you can wander around, watch them and feed them with the nuts you can buy at the entrance. It's a very calming way to spend an afternoon. (Plus, it's right by the beach)

Finally someone who didn't "rescue" an animal by taking it home out of it's natural environment. She did exactly the right thing.

Thank you for sharing your valuable observations. Your hands off approach allowed the wild to stay wild. I live in a wilderness area and it drives me crazy and saddens me when I see friends and neighbors hand feeding because they think it's cute! So many humans don't think smart before they do things which ultimately causes death to wild creatures. Please share more and the very best of luck un your career.

That forest is absolutely gorgeous, so upsetting to know a pregnant squirrel had passed away there, I wish the baby squirrels the best 🐿❤️

You are a beautiful young lady, inside and outside. I love that you do not interfere with their lives, since they are in their environment. I like a lot of the rescue videos of course, but they needed help. I am sure you learned a lot. Great job!

its amazing how wild animals can tell people apart even when people always change their outfits and their scent always smells a bit different

I've noticed that with people too, even if I have different clothes on and antiperspirant they still recognise me!! Amazing!!

@@blucat4 hey sarcastic ass. animals arent humans. if you wore a costume your dog would still recognize you due to your scent. they don't really focus on a humans face but more on their smell.

@@blucat4 no need to be a sarcastic arse. animals don't really distinguish humans by our faces but by scent and movement. a dog will know who their owner is even if they worse a costume covering their entire face.

@@iwillhaveyourorder5174 You didn't get the point of the sarcasm, which was to let you know animals are humans too. They recognise faces. (Magpies remember human faces for their lifetimes, and let other magpies know if this face is friendly or not.) They remember. They are smart. They have THE same emotions as us. Wake up to animals, it will enrich your life. Said in a nice way. 🙂

@@blucat4 sorry but animals are not humans but humans are part of the animal kingdom. "animal" is a very large category. you flipped your words wrong. I know magpies/crows can recognize human faces as they are smart as a 7-year-old. they're on a whole different category with dolphins and chimpanzees then a lil chipmunk that I was talking about. not a magpie. not an orca, not a gorilla that can do sign language. a chipmunk. did I say chipmunks are dumb? no. they perceive things differently, and I found it fascinating. all animals have different levels of intelligence. see, you're the only one who couldn't comprehend what I meant. and I did know the point of your sarcasm and it was not needed. you weren't trying to talk like a normal person, having a civilized conversation as to why I was wrong in some way. you just wanted to belittle a stranger for the fun of it. get your facts straight. you weren't trying to make a statement "in a nice way. 🙂"
