Amber's case always felt especially tragic to me. Everyone in the case did everything right. When Jim saw her get abducted, he called, when her grandfather saw her brother come back without her, he went to get her, when the police got the report they showed up. Even the fact that there were several days before she was killed...there was time and attention to try and save her...and still it wasn't enough. I suppose in these situations, the best you can hope for is that she has a legacy...but I'll cross my fingers for justice anyway.

I remember when this happened. Amber would be the same age I am now (36) if she wasn’t murdered. I’m so shocked to this day that NO ONE was ever caught. I pray the killer gets his justice in the next life if we don’t catch him now.

Props to your dad for not crashing! I’m from the US and therefore very familiar with the sounds of alerts, but every damn time I jump and my heart races like “wtf was that?!” Especially when they’re sent out at 2am. when I lived in LA, it happened at least 3x/month, often more. I’d rather be startled momentarily than have a child in peril because nobody knew to look for them.

It's so hard to believe that such a blatant abduction could have gone unsolved for this much time. Since somebody saw it happen and saw the vehicle, I think everyone expected the man to be caught within a day or so. Such a sad case for such a sweet little girl

A thought: could it have been someone who worked at the tv station that was filming the Hagermans? They would’ve been familiar with who they were from watching the footage and it seems to be a big coincidence that Amber was taken at that time?

This was such a hard watch, having been an Arlington resident at the time. It was *the* topic of conversation for weeks and when we learned the autopsy results [especially the part at 14:15], it made things just that much worse. To this day, when my cellphone launches an Amber Alert, I think of this child. My prayer has always been that advances in DNA technology will result in the arrest & conviction of the wretched individual responsible for her death. Thank you for your thorough and gentle handling of this case. 💖

Thanks for your dedication. Only 300 miles from the area & old enough to be her mother, yet I was unaware, up until last year, that this case has gone unsolved. I truly thought it would have been wrapped up within a week, there being a witness & the fact that she had never left the area.

I immediately heard the emergency phone alert noise in my head as soon as you brought up your experience in Florida. I never considered how jarring it would be for people from other countries. We have that same noise for all emergency alerts. I live in New England, so I've gotten Amber Alerts, Silver Alerts, flash flood warnings, tornado warnings, blizzard warnings, & the like. I'm sure other states get earthquake, hurricane, & volcanic activity warnings. The same noise/warnings also air over cable TV.

As a resident of the uk I was surprised to have an amber alert on the first day of my USA holiday one year. It is such an amazing idea. The child that I had the alert about was taken by his nanny and found quite quickly.

Something so positive and which saved so many lives to come, but on the back of utter heartbreaking pain of Amber's friends and family and those who loved her. We finally had the Amber Alert insituted in my province in Canada 🇨🇦 a few years ago. I never thought it would be necessary in my community of 35,000, however it was used a couple years ago, and aided in a young girl being located, she had been taken off a playground by a stranger. The debate in the past year has been the rules surrounding the use of an Amber Alert. The sripulations for issuing one varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and some are calling for them to be motified in my province.

Amber and I are almost the exact same age, and she disappeared on my 10th birthday. How absolutely heartbreaking for her family! I knew the Amber Alert was named after a child victim, but I somehow didn't realise her case is still unsolved. I sobbed several times watching this episode.

Amber has changed the world for the better, but I wish she could have done that by living her full life and pursuing her dreams. Also, I think the neighbor who called police immediately is an unsung hero. We so often hear about spectators doing nothing, and we've got to praise those who do jump in.

Sadly, i just got an Amber Alert notification about an hour ago 😢 but I'm very thankful that it's available! I know a child was saved in my area recently (4-5 months ago) due to an Amber Alert and it's just incredible, I'm glad Amber's legacy can live on when she can't ❤️❤️

I wonder if Amber's case would've been solved if there was the proliferation of cctv we have now. They're everywhere and whilst some people argue they're an invasion of privacy I find them very reassuring and often helpful in cases like this.

No, they had a witness that saw the man & the truck, & the body was found within 4 miles from where she was kidnapped. The PD was inept. If ever a case should have been solved within 24 hours, it was this this one.

I regrettably must confess that until just now, I knew very few details surrounding Amber's tragic disappearance and murder. I vaguely remember hearing bits and pieces of her story during the time of the initial investigation, however, as a college student at the time with no TV access on campus, I had. unfortunately, missed the bulk of the case. In the decades following her abduction, my only knowledge of the case was basically limited to the fact that the Amber Alert had been named in her honor. In fact, I hadn't even realized until just now that her body had been found! Sadly, I had always just assumed she was still missing. And now that I've learned Amber's entire story from start to finish, I am left feeling angry, heartbroken and ashamed. I wish I would've known about her two day captivity and all the torture and rape she endured prior to being brutally stabbed to death. I would have most certainly been more active in her case. I feel so ashamed.
