What gets me is the whole movie is about accepting yourself as you are yet all the women end up losing weight to fit in.

You accept yourself which is a necessary step for self love to happen - and when you truly love yourself, you start becoming (more) responsible for yourself and start making healthier choices for yourself (including but not reduced to healthy food, much more needed exercise) which in time will lead to weight loss. But the purpose is not losing weight for the sake of it but to really, truly love yourself which inevitably will get there as an effect. The truth is, only very rarely cases of overweight is due to a metabolic disorder which prevents you to maintain a healthy body ratio of fat. Most cases are due one or more of the following: laziness, wrong nutrition and drinking habits, lack of exercise due to choice, lack of self interest or self love, business, etc, etc. Again, we're not talking about being skinny, but about having and maintaining a healthy ratio of body fat.

I have always been bothered by this concept that if you're overweight, even a little bit, then you are ugly and unhappy. Yes being very overweight is bad for your health primarily. You could die, shouldn't this be more important.

it's easier and faster to take someone that is skinny and make them be overweight than it is to take someone overweight, film the first part, and then wait for them to get into shape.
