I've been using two limited palettes. One has titanium white, yellow ochre, cadmium red and ivory black. The second palette I use is titanium white, cadmium yellow medium, ultramarine blue, cadmium red medium, and burnt umber. Depending on my story/mood, I choose my palette.

The earing is actually metal and she was a slave so even HAVING her ears pierced is against the law (back then) but her with a pearl earling like how would that make sense

The method of how you construct a painting, will inform the result. You needed a grisaille at least. I have made many copies myself of Vermeer. Nice study, but more research is required on your part.

real life isn't 4 tones it's infinite colors and brightness values. vermeer used photorealistic lighting and color.
