Such great memories this brings back. I've had Dashers since 1993ish. 3 total. Still have all 3. All 1976. 2 2 doors, 1 wagon. First 2 were very worn out and tired when I got them. 3rd one I started a restoration on in 1998. Sat many years dormant, but the last couple years I've been heavy at it. It's a resto-mod. Every nut and bolt. 16V with twin Webers, 5-speed, hand built coilovers. Nothing is really available for these cars other than basic maintenance stuff. The one I'm restoring I've driven only once - home from the junkyard. The other 2 had nicely sorted suspension, and they are a joy to drive when things aren't worn out.

Ugh, I can't wait to get my 1980 dasher coupe done. Imma get it running and driving as it already is but needs a few things. Planning to alh swap it in the next year or so hopefully

i had one in 1983 (i think it was a 77 or 78), worst, worst, worst car i ever owned... i drove it from california to connecticut and had to use a coat hanger to keep the hood from flying up. i was trapped in kansas for several days with some fix or the other and when i got to connecticut i either junked it or sold it for some measly sum to some sucker... my first car was a 1960 metropolitan and if i thought i could fit in one today, i'd buy one in a heartbeat... but a dasher? never.

you planning to do the coilover conversion like how people do the fox suspensions.
@mk1rabbithole2 жыл бұрын
im torn honestly, i definitely see me lowering it eventually if i keep it long enough. were gonna wait and see how nice it rides with just stock components freshened up. won't be too hard to jump back in and take things apart especially once the countless years of grit and corrosion are broken free for the refresh.

Hello from Utah! I own a mk1 Rabbit Diesel. I've had it since... March? When it works it's awesome but it leaks all sorts of fluids and the shocks are shot... And it hates winter.
@gard3nssnake2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a Mk1! As long as she’s running, drive her!!
@mk1rabbithole2 жыл бұрын
what problems does it have with winter? might need some new glow plugs or a block heater. when they're old and tired, it definitely takes some of the fun out of it.

Omg the hubcap 🤭, did you ever go back for it..

The conversations make me think of when Jess and I drove the rabbit pickup from NY to Helen, GA for SoWo back in 2013. I hope you keep this one long enough to see it get to the next level 😎
@mk1rabbithole2 жыл бұрын
oh man i could only imagine. was that one of the early trial by fire trips for her or had she experienced enough by then to already know what was ahead? yeah this one ain’t going anywhere anytime soon. i plan on getting the suspension and bones of it sorted this winter or next summer, and just freshening it up. if the engine pops then who knows what i’ll swap it with but it’ll take a bit more than that for me to go giving up on her. bigger fish to fry on the other projects in the meantime so just praying this one holds strong for a little while longer while i try to get to it.

@the rAbb1t hole that trip happened very early on - it was indeed a big test of the relationship to be in that pickup for about 17 hours straight! She turned out to be a great co pilot and we've done lots of long road trips since. You two should do this format again 👍
