Yup, Jill confirmed that on their Breakfast Club interview w/ Charlamagne, her and Mara Brock Akil had a bunch of lunch meetings and the alleged story was Toni was supposed to come back for four episodes in season 8 or 9, but never came into fruition due to the writers strike & ultimate cancellation of the show.

If you watched the girlfriends spin-off "the game" they didn't explain what happened to toni in girlfriends but it was planned to say what happened to her in the game. And the first 3 seasons of the game is on Netflix the rest is on peacock

Look I love Toni but when she left Monica low key took her place
