I believe the reason we pronounce "Schedule" as "shedule" is because English is largely derived from old German where "sch" is pronounced "sh". Technically, we should pronounce "school" as shool" (from the German Schule) but we don't because we like to be inconsistent :)
@peteraustin687

incorrect. It comes from Old French cedule, from late Latin schedula ‘slip of paper’, diminutive of scheda, from Greek skhedē ‘papyrus leaf’. The word 'school' comes from Old English scōl, scolu, via Latin from Greek skholē ‘leisure, philosophy, lecture place’, reinforced in Middle English by Old French escole.

@@peteraustin687 This word has layers upon layers of shifting spellings, meanings and pronunciations through the ages - both fascinating and funny how cousins can end up arguing over it! Google, however, has taken it upon themselves to use an english accent pronunciation using 'skedule'. Thanks Google for Americanising us. Or should that be Americanizing?

During a period of unemployment three or four years ago, I volunteered to help a charity teach basic IT skills to adults. I used to teach "Contrary to what you think, you are very unlikely to break your computer by pressing a wrong button, so play fearlessly. On the other hand a nasty comment in an email or message may break the recipient so badly that their eyes start leaking, so remember there's a real person on the other end of what you type."

Mixer taps in the UK do not actually mix the water in the tap. If you look, you will find two individual tubes at the end. The cold tube is outside the hot tube so that the tap is not too hot to move around. When we imported taps which do actually mix within the tap, the incoming pipes should have one way check valves in them to prevent any backflow.

I am 70 years and live in South London and I wish some of my neighbours were as eloquent as You, I also love your friend in the States as She is Palace supporter, and very funny. Just a note on taps and the reason for two goes back to the day when houses had a cold water tank in the attic and had a low pressure supply to the tap therefore pipe joints lasted longer as opposed to the water pressure from a mains supply.

Mixer taps still need to get hot water from a boiler (unless you have a hot tap with its own water heater) so how quick they are surely depends on how far away from the boiler the tap is.In my case the kitchen and downstairs wet room are about as far apart as they can be so hot water takes a long time to reach them.

Mixer tap team here too, to the end!!!!!!Totally, totally agree on mixer taps, but I have only encountered the old fashioned sinks with two taps in very old houses in UK. Mixer taps are indisputably better. I never lived in any house in Spain either that had two separate taps. My method in the old houses with two taps in the sink was actually never to take the trouble of filling the sink with both taps to get a comfortable temperature, but ending up with freezing hands! Very unpleasant experience. And that argument of saving water is BS 😂 It only remains an issue bc housing stock is very old and people are too stingy to replace the sinks!!

As a slight counter to the “don’t listen to the haters” comments, an American KZbinr who I very much respect has the approach that if he sees trends in his comments pointing out negative aspects to his videos, he then uses that to feed back into his future content in order to continually improve it. That positive approach to negativity pretty much sums up a US attitude for me. I think the first video I watched of yours was ages back when you tried British Christmas treats. It was one of the funniest things I’d seen all year and got you an instant sub from me. You have a wry, understated humour, which is probably why you fit right in in the UK. Having said that I had the good fortune some years later to work with a notable British repertory company(not as an actor, they had need of some dancers). Working with some of Britain's finest I acquired an appreciation and respect for "classical" English. I realise that the language has been changing for a thousand years but some basic tenets of usage would be really important for present and future comprehensions of the traditions of "English."

I lived in Phoenix for around two years and one of my daughters has dual nationality. Have you ever made a broadcast about walking in the suburbs - I'm guessing that you live in the suburbs in the UK. My wife was amazed in Phoenix when she walked around half a mile to the shopping mall, pushing a pram with two other daughters in tow, that one or two (very polite & concerned) motorists would ask " Are you OK Mam?"
@Psmith-ek5hq

Bill Bryson makes a similar observation in one of his books. The concept of walking even relatively short distances is alien to many Americans. When he moved back to the states for 7 years in the mid 90's, they invited the next door neighbours for dinner. . .and they drove there! He light-heartedly asked how they got to the supermarket, by light-aircraft? His attempt at humour seemed to go over their heads. He said pretty much everyone in the small town where he lived was within no more than 5 minutes walk to all the shops, but nobody ever did. Well apart from him that is. After a while the locals got used to his "eccentric" behaviour. Before this though, people who knew him stopped and asked if he would like a lift. When he politely declined. "well, if you're absolutely sure", they would say. And left him reluctantly, even guiltily, as if they were leaving the scene of an accident.

Forget about mixer taps, no worries on that. Funniest news story Barry Gardiner MP, has been infiltrated by the Chinese, nearly fell off the chair laughing. Now waiting for the trolls. You are doing a good job, just keep away from bring a bottle parties in London. Can't beat the UK for comedy. Queen just trumped BG, Andrew stripped of honours, in for a penny in for a pound.

Hardly infiltrated, he took some money to pay the salaries of some researchers & declared it according to the rules. Mixer taps are old hat. A cold tap for teeth cleaning and a thermostatic blending valve on the hot is the ultimate in plumbing perfection.

The only problem I have with 'Flashlight' is that just because of advances in technology and engineering doesn't mean you need a new word for something. I like the idea that there's a through line from a prehistoric torch being tinder on a stick to medieval oil and rags, to light bulbs to LEDs.

My English skills are good, my math skills, well, I don't have any particular skills at math. In fact, I practically need a calculator to add two and two. These facts don't make me especially smart or stupid. Everyone has different talents. There are some geniuses who are terrible spellers. And the ability to memorize lists of things is not an indicator of intelligence. 💙 I love your channel and I'm subscribed.

Mixer taps are obviously better. There simply is not one single benefit anymore in having separate taps unless you have a very old house with a very unhygienic water supply. I am used to separate taps so don't mind them but no doubt mixers are better.

If you really like filling a sink you can still do it with a mixer tap so that is not an advantage of separate taps.

Hi Kalyn, It’s certainly good to call people out, but I’m glad you didn’t focus too much on them either and gave air time to positive comments. I totally get you. You do comparisons. As a Brit I totally agree with you about aircon and screens. In fact so much so, that we had aircon and screens installed after spending time with friends and family in the US and Canada. We realised what good ideas they were and adopted them. I follow a lot of travel vloggers and I get the impression that the trolls are basically energised by jealousy. You’ve done what they probably never will, and that’s travel and move abroad. I’d guess most of them still live with their parents and have never moved much further than their bedroom and gaming station!

I’m only a couple of minutes in. Love the positive comments the 1st negative comment was just plain rude! I have commented where I sometimes may disagree but honestly there is no need to be so rude! I for one love all the guys doing videos where comparisons are made between the US & U.K. as I I want to visit the US in the next 2 yrs. I find them all helpful. The one thing I have noticed in a lot of videos not this one though! Is when someone coughs or sneezes or even yawns & they don’t say excuse me! Or apologies. Just the one thing I find a bit annoying. Other than that love love love your KZbin channel & quite a few other US channels. I love the fact people from all over the world come here to visit or live! As one of the other comments says sometimes we forget how amazing our little island is! Take care lovely. Love your channel x from Lyn in Liverpool x

1. Like your videos. Keep them coming and ALWAYS BE YOU. For me the way you wander through your thoughts is a refreshing way to put across your content. 2. Ref: places to go; Fairly Pools and Bad Steps - Isle of Skye. Mull of Kintyre, Edinburgh, Isle of Jura and Loch Lomond. Douglas and Peel - Isle of Man. To name a few, as you have already mentioned many of the places I would also recommend. 3. To those of you who write blatantly negative comments "FOFF!!" and don't come back. I heard an American comedian doing a stand up routine once in the UK and he was talking about Brits eating beans on toast, asking if we're still at war, lol. Quite funny and it probably did get popular from WWII. I used to prefer tinned spaghettii hoops on toast when I was a kid but I havnt had either for years. I watch a Bill Burr podcast before and he was responding to someone telling him that the word colour wasn't a spelling mistake but just they way its spelt in British English and he was like I don't care, we don't care how you sell it, so quite funny.
