okay a couple things here. I commented on another video that when Kimberley/Nadine are paired up together with such low registers, its clear which ones thrive and die, respectively. And poof here it is now and what makes even more ridiculously obvious is that the audio editing here is just so poorly done. you can clearly hear how Nadine's adlib part was inserted during post-editing, not only with the terrible splicing but with the stark vocal differences of the two separate recordings. (this is also BLATANTLY done during OOC tour Untouchable, two completely different Nadines poorly edited together) and now secondly, for their promotion of the single. GA actually performed Can't Speak French a half-step higher, bringing the key up to Dmin. Clearly because the song might have been too low. And in those promo performances (T4 for example) although the key is higher, Nadine's diction still makes her sound muddy. If she had worked on the pronunciation of the words, it would have given her a brighter sound, which she pulls off well on the studio recording. I've always said Nadine shines in the recording studio moreso than on stage, and that is only because as the years went on, her diction got worse and worse which also resulted in her singing flat. She has her star moments on stage for sure, but starting here in Tangled Up and DEFFF into Ten, she tries too hard and falls flat. And now here we are with this video, and the key of the song is brought back to the original C#min, which I don't get since they did all the promos in the higher key. Whatever, it's clear once again that Kimberely thrives in the lower register whereas Nadine needs edited splicing for the DVD release haha. And sure everyone says Nadine is the star vocalist, but there is a reason that KZbin marks the Most Replayed point of this video, and that is Cheryl who shines as the popstar that she is, vocally and all. quick mention, Nicola and Sarah should have gotten more parts obvi. I'd never really heard Cheryl Cole sing before - she's flat on this. Is this as good as it gets? Wah Wah Wah (slide-whistle sound, as per a fat-mans' trousers falling-down in a silent movie). I think I'll try the studio version of this - the guitar h00k sounds like a little lost gem from Chris Rea's early days. I might re-write this to "You Don't Speak French", and tell it from the guys' point of view, as I play me some fine hot riffs on my Strat. Mmmnn, minty.
