@Ji0 there is a reason why sohyang won less awards than taeyeon. Sohyang is not as active in the industry especially when she refused to sign up with major labels and therefore, lack of promotion of her songs. If she were as active as taeyeon she could easily dominate any award show, period. You can't really use that analogy when there is not a single award show in South Korea that awarded a singer for their vocal ability. Singers are usually awarded based on their album sales, streams, when clearly Taeyeon has the upper hand compared to Sohyang, even when Sohyang is leagues above Taeyeon.

i still think hyoyeon dances more cleanly and precisely than yuri. i could think of their onstage dance break to in to The New World. when both came out on that dance break, yuri's dance looked a little messier than hyoyeon's. hyoyeon's was very precise and clean. this reminds me of park shin hye's dance "showdown" in Heartstrings with the show's main dancer. even though PSH could carry out the choreo, she looked very loose and messy. very little core stability. the main dancer looked very clean and precise in her movements. her core was very stable and tight

i am a yuri ult, so take this with a grain of salt, but for a while (around the time of cmiyc) some sones did start referring to her as a main dancer alongside hyoyeon. and honestly, i feel like that is a fair assessment/move. similar to how momo and mina are both considered main dancers within twice - mina and yuri are both extremely talented, and could/would be main dancers in nearly any other lineup. BUT they happen to be groupmates with exceptionally talented, era-defining dancers.

One thing abt snsd dance ability is that I realised how neat it is and it shows how much they are very experience idols. I was shocked tht Tiff is last yet I feel her dance does not lack anything as an idol dancer, and none of snsd is lacking. They are very well trained, neat, experienced even when some of them are not born dancer. They are not stiff, and all of them do know how to conquer stage and perform.

THANK YOU for recognising Sunny! It's sad to see her forgotten, and it's been happening ever since their debut. There's a reason why Yoona is part of Girls' Generation's dance line. In their songs, her moves are very sharp that she's the only one you can see during their choreo. She can dance to any genre from cute to sexy. Her isolation is really good and she can do freestyle. She's one of the members who rarely make mistakes on stage and she knows when to use her energy. As a SONE for 8 years, I would place Yoona as 3rd best dancer in SNSD. She was able to showcase her dancing ability more than Sunny throughout their discography so I don't agree putting Sunny in 4th.

Well that’s the thing. Yoona is an expert when it comes to idol dancing, hence why she excels in all of SNSD choreos. But whenever there’s a special dance performances, either for year-end shows, variety dance show, or SM concerts, I’ve been noticing her dancing is not venturing out of her idol dancing, while Yuri, Hyoyeon, and Sooyoung clearly have shown their versatilities to do styles different than idol dancing. I’ve been thinking Sunny was better than Yoona when looking at stages like Sorry Sorry - Super Junior cover where Yoona and Sunny were placed in the same lineup. Sunny is better as a technical dancer, but Yoona is better as an idol dancer. Overall, I think Yoona is 100% crafted to be the center material, which is why her dancing, singing, acting and visual are all perfect for an idol.

My Dance/Performance Ranking as a SONE with reasons 1. Hyoyeon - Literally SNSD'S Dancing Queen. Most powerful dancer among them. Can dance multiple genre from hiphop to ballroom. A total package. 2. Yuri The sexiest member with great dancing skills. Good isolation and stage projection. I think she only falls behind Hyoyeon because of her inconsistency and tendency to forget the steps. She sometimes get out of balance maybe due to her height? All in all a great dancer. 3. Sooyoung The most elegant dancer of SNSD. She dances gracefully but sometimes lack power and tendency to underdance however she has a great stage presence. Sones know how sooyoung slay. 4. Yoona The center with the cleanest dancing ability. If you want to learn SNSD's choreography, follow her. A great dancer in the dance line however she doesn't extend or give that much power compared to the other 3. The epitome of being a Center. 5. Jessica The Unbothered Ice Queen. She was in the dance line before, however SM made her focus on singing instead due to anemia. She is the best dancer in the vocal line. She has a tendency to underdance however she still slayed even if she is half assing those steps. What more if she really put effort into it? Our talented Ice Princess. 6. Sunny The Most Expressive performer. She fits whatever mood the songs give. Similar dancing skills with Seohyun however her height gives her the edge. May tend to overdance but it actually fits her. SNSD's Concept Analyzer and Energy Pill. 7. Seohyun The Queen of Harmony. She doesn't lack in anything at all but comparing her to sunny, what she lacks is stage presence. She dance well within the group and blends well within the group. The universal performer, Our maknae. 8. Taeyeon The only powerful singer whose dancing was overlooked due to her powerful voice, Our Kid Leader Taeyeon. Don't you agree? She is a very good dancer and does not lack the basics of anything. It is just that she needs to focus more on singing since she is King Taeyeon and dancing was then needed in her profession. She tends to dance manly. A well-trained dancer with good isolations, stage presence and charisma. 9. Tiffany The singer who wants to dance. She has the least dancing capability among the girls however she is also well trained. She has a tendency to forget steps, over and under dancing, and she sometimes dance awkwardly. She learned all the basics of dancing and can learn easily. A trained dancer with great stage presence and adlibs. That is my opinion. In general, I can only see minor issues among the girls. And I miss them.

Catz1a I wouldn’t say so. The thing or the strength of Hyoyeon that other idol dancers cannot rival is her versatility. Even within 2nd generation main dancers such as Minzy, Luna, Bora, etc., Hyoyeon still has the upper hand. This is due to her ability to dance to different dance styles and excel at it, meanwhile, other dancers look uncomfortable or stiff when dancing in styles outside of their forte. Some idol dancers are extremely good at powerful and in-your-face type of choreos but lack in control and looks extremely stiff and uncomfortable when doing feminine moves. There are also idol dancers who are good with being sexy and fluid, but lack in power when executing hip-hop-like moves. But Hyoyeon, on the other hand, having trained professionally in dance styles such as popping and locking, handles powerful choreos with such ease and control. And being an SNSD member, and having trained in SM for 7 years before debuting, also allowed her to master the basics when it comes to idol dances. She also went to Dancing with the Stars in Korea and showcased her ability to catch up on dance sports which she never tried out before joining the competition (she then won 1st runner up). There is so much more to being a dancer than just executing flashy moves, you also have to consider the technique that goes behind every execution of move. Strength, power, fluidity, flexibility, sharpness, control, etc., all of these things make a good dancer. In this case, Hyoyeon possesses it all.

This is my personal ranking: 1. Hyoyeon - has the power, agility, stage presence and really feels the song with every inch of her body 2.Yuri - has precise movements, power, good facial expressions and a really sexy aura 3. Yoona/Sooyoung - I can't decide who is the better dancer, I feel like they're good at different things. Yoona has very high accuracy and attention to details, in the chorus of Mr. Mr. and Beep Beep only her and Hyoyeon were able to do the hand and body gestures properly. Sooyoung is better at different genres, like hip hop and latin dance. They both lack power compared to Yuri and Hyoyeon tho. 5. Seohyun - Jessica used to rank no.5 between 2007-2010 but Seohyun gradually improved to be better. Seohyun has semi-accurate movements but less agile compared to those ranking above her, and she looks too stern sometimes. 6. Jessica - used to have power and agility in dancing, but gradually lost her edge. Also is a bit too elegant when dancing (her moves look different from the others) and it sticks out in a group 7. Sunny - she's actually good, but over-dances a bit too much; her moves look very different from the others sometimes, too bouncy and energetic I would say 8. Taeyeon - can do the moves as they should look like, but lacks stamina and power; as a vocalist, it's good enough though 9. Tiffany - can be quite stiff at times, and her moves become simplified, but her stage presence and enthusiasm make her stand out

It's not she didn't improve much, it is because when your dance flaws aren't obvious in the first place people don't see it. Other people's flaws were obvious and easily noted when improved, but Hyoyeon's dance flaws might have been stuff that is hard to notice so we don't see her improvement when she might have slowly got herself off this planet already (I mean, she's a goddess in dancing)

I’m so glad that you included “If this ranking were made in late 2000’s to early 2010’s, Jessica would’ve been higher up the list”, cuz I think the exact same way, as a Sone from Kissing You/Girls’ Generation/Baby Baby era. I think from debut all the way to around Run Devil Run/Hoot era, Jessica were much higher up the list and Seohyun and Sooyoung were lower. In my opinion, the dance ranking way back then was: 1. Hyoyeon 2. Yuri 3. Jessica 4. Yoona 5. Sunny 6. Sooyoung 7. Seohyun 8. Taeyeon 9. Tiffany Back then, Jessica was constantly placed in center parts for choruses, intro poses and outro poses, since she was in the dance line and the visual line right next to Yoona. Just to name a few, Into The New World intro dance break, Gee - 1st half of the last chorus, Genie - chorus right after the bridge, Oh - chorus right the bridge, Chocolate Love - 2nd chorus, Run Devil Run - intro pose, Hoot - last chorus, Mr Taxi - 2nd chorus, The Boys - intro pose and last chorus. And let’s not forget Jessica was the only member who got a dance teaser for SNSD debut along with THE dancing queen Hyoyeon, and a bunch of other dances back then where she leaded the dance along with Hyoyeon and other dance line members - Chaotic, Don’t Cha (all my OG Sones would know these performances for real!) But then she gradually put less effort into dancing since she has anemia, and already had to carry the group’s vocals along with Taeyeon (let’s be real SNSD’s choruses back then we’re basically a bunch of Taengsic’s duets). And on top of that, the other girls also have improved their dancings too so Jessica just got less and less dance focuses in SNSD songs. Sooyoung started to surpass Jessica and Yoona and got her own dance spotlights around Mr Taxi era. I just wanted to let folks know that Jessica has the capabilities to dance when she still put her all into it, it’s just unfortunate that her health condition doesn’t allow her to push too hard, and later on her career direction also has drifted her away from her once amazing performing skills.

Sorry I only agree to your point partially. It's true that Jessica was assigned to handle some significant parts in early years of SNSD, and part of the reason relates to her health condition, and concentrating on assisting Taeyeon in terms of vocal. It is also true that she was trained as one of the lead dancer of SNSD in the pre-debut period as well. However, what I believe the most main reason is that she is always the member who obtains high popularity. SM, without question, put her in front of members and make her a so-called lead dancer. In my point of view, Jessica doesn't dance really well for group dances. If you observe Jessica's dance movements carefully, she did the choreography a bit differently when comparing to other members. (I suggest you watch Hoot's performance, her legs movements in the chorus part was different.) Please be reminded to use the standard of "Group dance", it's mostly about synchronization, right? After criticizing Jessica's moves, I have to say she dance pretty good (maybe above average) when it comes to her solo parts in SNSD songs. She did show her charisma in her solo parts with unique moves. You may say "iT Is hEr StyLe". Sorry but please stop defending her. Please admit that is her weakness.

I love how the vocal-line are in the bottom of dance ranking and the dance-line are in the bottom of vocal ranking (however the worst dancer in Soshi still can dance neatly and greatly, and the worst vocalist can hit a highnote). This makes Soshi a complete girl group and each member in the group can support the other very well, there are members in charge of dancing, and the others in charge of vocal. There are several girl groups out there having members handle all the positions included of dancing and singing, and some others are just in the group being a sub dancer having no spotlight.

Tiffany shared on her interview last year that she had been suffered scoliosis which made her not able to do some ballet dance moves so she has always had to practice 20 times harder than the other. I'm a 12 years fan of GG and i followed them since Gee. There are 2 main dancer and 2 main vocalist in the group the whole time. Yuri shares the position with Hyoyeon even though everybody knows Hyoyeon IS the better dancer. Hyoyeon: She is the best dancer of ALL THE KPOP, and if someone does not agree, I invite you to investigate her, since she debuted as a dancer machine, she is so versatile that she has participated in multiple contests, knows how to do hip hop, popping, salsa , pop, contemporaneo, dance hall, shuffle, etc ... it has everything, body control, stamina, sharp, freestyle, power, EVERYTHING. Finally, someone who sees Sunny's ability in dance. I ALWAYS thought she was the better dancer after the dance line. She has such a natural talent and feel for dance, it was more apparent in their earlier days. When they did a dance battle against After School and did Michael Jackson, she was so good! I feel like if Jessica kept up with dance, she could be 2nd after Hyoyeon which I know people will disagree with, but watching her predebut, she was such a powerful dancer and also seems to have a natural talent for dancing. I agree with her weaknesses though, Jessica doesn't try to hide her weakness but I think her potential is so good. She has such a distinct style when she actually puts in the effort. Though I agree with Yuri being 2nd, I always felt like she moved quite awkwardly at times and I could never figure out why. I also think Taeyeon, like Jessica, has the potential to be a great dancer.

I literally watched all hyoyeon’s dancing video in youtube esp from her rookie days. Her versatility was awesome esp she mastered isolation, locking, and popping (and footwork). I agree that GG’s dance did not challenged and showcased hyo’s ability thus sometimes her facial expression lack or I must say her passion doesn’t overflow now. It seems she reached the point of comfort in stage and no pressure to prove herself in every stage. It was a pro and con. BUT she DID improved coz she was able to try other dance style like dance sport gosh she was awesome in that show.

it's almost like the choreographers have to scale down the choreography just so the rest of the group could catch up. hyoyeon's skills/natural talents are that strong in that no matter how much the other members trained, they just couldn't catch up to her, and the difference is so glaring in more difficult choreography. thus, to make the group look more even skills wise on videos and onstage, the choreo had to be scaled down

Both Taeyeon and Jessica were main vocalists, it's just that Taeyeon had better technique and was given more parts and high notes. But they were both officially deemed the main vocalists. This is the same for Hyoyeon and Yuri. They are both main dancers, but Hyoyeon is the better dancer. There is no such thing as a "main and second" in kpop. There are reasons for me to remain a faithful SONE and for HyoYeon to remain untouched on her pedestal as my ultimate bias in K-pop. I've been a K-pop fan since 2008, I'm 25 and going on 26 soon. SNSD inspired me beyond what's imaginable. HyoYeon is still the best female dancer in the industry because, although she wasn't able to get many challenges through SNSD comebacks, she excelled on her own merit and has mastered so many styles. I say that idols like *HyoYeon* are rare. She's a dancer to the core, but she's come out as a wonderful ID too after so many years of experience (good heavens I'm talking as if she's old and I'm reaching my 60s).

My ranking w/reasons 9. Tiffany -I agree she's more of a singer and rapper than dancer so makes sense why she's so low but she can dance decently (I mean search for her fan video hahaha) 8. Jessica -Unfortunately I wasn't into kpop yet when she was a member (which is smtn I regret) but like Tiffany she may be stiff at times But she's good as well 7. I personally think that Hyoyeon is the best female k dancer as of right now, although I wouldn’t be surprised if she eventually gets surpassed by Chaeryeong of Itzy Chaeyon of Izone Momo if Twice SEULGI of RV Chungha or Sungyeon of CLC. Her versatility is superior to most dancers I have encountered or watched in my life and it’s a shame that she is no longer praised she was in GG’s prime. Great Video even though some of your descriptions are repetitive your breakdowns are perfect!
