OK let me set the story straight, Enfield UK went out of business in 1969 and shut down in England. But the company tied up with madras motors in 1955 and licensed to produce Enfield India bikes with madras Motors as Anglo Indian company, fortunately after 1969 madras motor survived till 90s and an Indian company Eicher motors held 26% of stakes in enfield India by 1990, and by 93 held controlling 60% stake unfollowing years controlled more than 90%. Eicher changed the name from Enfield India to Royal Enfield in 1994. The reason Royal enfield is still alive is Eicher Motors, they poured millions of dollars in the brand, in process owning UK Harris performance, opening state of the art tech center in Leicestershire UK and Chennai India.

I work at a dealer that sells them. They have very intensive maintenance schedules, can get expensive, other than that a lot of people really like them. Cheap bike, routine scheduled maintenance can get expensive, especially if you ride a lot of miles. Example: 1st service is 300 miles, manual calls for 3 hours. Changes all the fluids, check the valve clearance, clutch gets checked for slippage, it’s a pretty intensive service. A customer told me these are the Harley Davidsons in India, they are very popular there.

1. What does being female have to do not with not riding a bike that doesn't belong to you? 2. Since when do you personally need a cafe racer to stop at a coffee shop? :) Now to answer the actual question. I appreciate each bike for what it has to offer. I do tend to prefer a little less gadgetry on my own personal bikes. ABS, slipper clutch, traction control depending on the bike, quick shifter again depending on bike. But most of the other stuff I don't find necessary for me.

Royal Enfield have gone from a left field choice to a contender in the UK with the Meteor and the interceptor being some of the biggest selling bikes here . I have to admit I really like the bike and apart from a couple of easy to fix things (the tool kit which is utter tat and brakes in the wet which will most probably be fixed with new pads) I couldn’t be happier with it.
