My sister shared this video with me since my husband and I have been looking around the states for a home to retire in eventually. I love all things historic so this town is right up my alley. So quaint and beautiful!! I had read about it some time ago. We’re from Southern CA and the furthest east we’ve traveled is South Dakota. Hoping to visit Galena one day! Oh, and if you’re ever in Colorado, there’s another cute historic town (although maybe not as big as Galena) called Manitou Springs. Have you ever been there? If you like historic buildings and charm, you may like this place, too! We honeymooned there at a beautiful Victorian hotel where many old time celebrities stayed in. In fact, the guest room are named after them, including Clark Gable! 🥰

Galena...a beautiful step back in time. We honeymooned there at Chesnut Mountain Lodge many years ago and have been back many times since. Lots of great restaurants and things to see and do. Chesnut Mountain is great for dinner with a dining room overlooking the Mississippi River. Did you notice driving through the large gates...that's because it used to flood many years ago and they would shut those gates to protect the town. The Desoto House is famous for Abe Lincoln having stayed there.

Hi Jimmy. I had no idea why the two gates were there. I had no idea. WOW! I am planning to go back because a few hours was not ENOUGH! Thanks for all the recommendations! I might stay in the Chesnut Mountain Lodge! I also want to checkout the dine in. The view sounds AMAZING!

@@victoriacardenas7738 Chesnut Mountain is beautiful and actually on a mountain. If you stay there ask for a room that overlooks the river. It is beautiful at night with the ships and barges passing by. We stayed in room 314 if I recall...back to 1971, lol. I enjoy your videos. I assume you are from Chicago. I am as well.

@@jimmyconway9619 oh! And yes! I’m from the Chicago area. I’m going crazy not traveling overseas. I usually travel to China and Europe for business but due to Covid I’m not 😭😩.

@@victoriacardenas7738 I don't know if you are a baseball fan but Galena is very close to an iconic baseball field...about 35 minutes away. The Field of Dreams was a 1989 movie starring Kevin Kostner and the field is still there open for visitors. Some of the movie was actually filmed in Galena. www.fieldofdreamsmoviesite.com/the-field

If you come back you have to see the Halloween parade I’m not sure if we are going to have a parade this year but you have to come back for one
