It's just the name of the martial art of using tanks in-universe. Senshado, similar to kendo, judo, karate-do, aikido, etc. Frankly, it really shouldn't even be translated IMO.

@@WeHeartGiantRobots Here's the thing. The name Sensha-do is a play on taekwondo, taking the do part and just adding the japanese word for tank (Sensha) in front. So Tankwondo is the closest thing we can get to an accurate direct translation

Senshado is just the Japanese name of the in-universe martial art/sport of using tanks like judo, kendo, aikido, kobudo, iaido, etc. To me the most accurate thing would be to just not translate it at all, just as most other martial arts keep their original names even in English. The "do" part of the names of these martial arts, which can mean a way or road, imply a sort of individual cultivation and growth rather than simply the learning of techniques. That's opposed to "jutsu," which can literally just mean technique or art. The fact that there is a "Senshado" would also imply the existence of an older "Senshajutsu" which would be more focused simply on the application of tank warfare.

A lot of Japanese disciplines/martial arts end with -do (budo = martial way, judo = gentle way, kendo = way of the sword, etc.) Tank Road is funnier though so fuck accuracy, keep that.

Mecha, in anime sense, refers to a single-piloted robotic SUIT. Tanks are CREWED vehicles characterised by NON HUMANOID design, TRACKS as opposed to legs, and COMBUSTION driven engines. Tanks are not Mechas. They are mechanical, but not mecha suits. Also, St. Glorianas is the best. You may disagree, but I WILL UNION JACK THE SHIT OUT OF YOU.

GuP was actually my first anime that I watched in its entirety and I was completely blown away by it. Maybe it was because I was playing World of Tanks at the time. My favorite character was and still is Hana. If you're wondering why, here's why: She is a beautiful, elegant and courageous tanker. Is there anyone else who also liked Hana?

Even after working a quarter of the tanks in this show I still love it. Tanks are some of the funnest things in the world to crew and I think this series really encases that feeling. Also read GUP ribbon warrior (I totally don't own the whole series of the manga)

What I am truly curious about GuP is the type of tanks oorai used to have, back before they stopped participating. I am curious about this because the tanks they are using now, were "worthless scrap that didn't sell". Even before the upgrades, Oorai's tanks were fairly good if not better, when compared to some of the other schools with the only truly bad tank being the Type 89 and even it is better than some of what Anzio and Chihatan brought. Anyways, here's hoping that Yugoslavia's SO-122 will make an appearance at some point.

Could "Tank Road" basically be a way of saying "Way of the Tank"? Since breaking it down, each of the symbols would literally be "battle car way," and generally speaking, titles like these are going for something like "way of the sword" and "art of archery". Google translate is probably turning it into "the way" into road as a literal idea of "this is what they mean when they're put together exactly," but it really just means "the way of the tank" which weebs then turn into just "tankery".

"Sensha" means "tank" (literally "war carriage") and the "do" character can mean road, but it can also mean "way" and is a common suffix for martial arts, as in "kyudo" "judo" or "kendo", so "Senshado" could be translated as "way of the tank", but it's not like we call Judo "way of gentleness" or anything, because that would be stupid.

A bit late to the party, but this parking your tank in a building is a lucky thing is absolutely true. Recalling my Dutch army time it was often that during exercises a German farmer would offer a Dutch tank crew good food, a hot shower and other amenities in exchange for the crew parking their Leopard in a poorly maintained shed. A call to the m.o.d. would see that the farmer getting compensated for the loss of his barn.
