For those of us thay are really old, the Fifteenth Doctor singing the same tune the Second Doctor used to play on his recorder 55 years ago is a really nice subtle nod. (Watch "Web of Fear".)

"She was the dinner lady in The Devil's Chord" - Yes, she was. The actress is called Susan Twist, and as well as the ambulance here and the dinner lady in The Devil's Chord, she was also playing one of the people putting in a formal objection to the company's actions in Space Babies, the woman who requested a specific song during Ruby's gig in The Church on Ruby Road, and the woman Isaac Newton briefly interacts with in Wild Blue Yonder.

Is this going to be a hugely Meta plot device? Is Susan Twist literally cast as a Susan "Twist"?

I remember her as a main character in Brookside , it was her patio with the body under it 😮

'Where's Harry Sullivan when you need him?' remarks the voice-over at the start of the episode. Well, yes, 4 accidentally putting his foot on a movement-sensitive explosive in part one of 'Genesis of the Daleks' was in fact a major inspiration for this. But we often end up in battlefields with this guy. At least he's not saving Davros this time.

It just occurred to me: Could that be how Davros ended up not being disfigured in that 14th Doctor minisode? Just kidding... maybe!

The fact that in the Devil's Chord its supposed to be six months after their first meeting and Space Babies & Boom feel like early episodes, this makes me feel like the Devil's Chord was originally was supposed to be a later episode.

Vilengard was mentioned in Moffatt's 1st episode The Empty Child, it was where Captain Jack got his weapon from, the place that the Doctor turned into a banana plantation

From what I've heard and read, the Devils chord was originally going to be aired at a later date, hence the 6 months with the Doctor part, but when i was decided on its 1st episode air date, they decided to move it forward to coincide with Eurovision on the same night with them both being music based. So therefore this one should've maybe been a first or second episode, so that'll be why this is Rubys' first alien planet journey.

Favourite episode of the season so far. Because it’s the first one that feels like traditional DW

This is the one thing that I like about this episode, the return to the basic DW formula. Otherwise, the episode is pretty "meh" for me.

Loved it! A solid 9. The best Who episode since World Enough and Time, IMHO. Welcome back Moff!! Really loved Ncuti's brushing off of the emotional.moment: - "Right, enough of that! Movin' on... Come on, Ruby !" Great reaction Marie-Clare and Adam!

The unspoken love with the hologram ending was done in the Twelfth Doctor story "Before the Flood". It's a really tragic ending.

That was more like it, some proper peril and a typically ingenious Moffaty set up. Definitely Ncuti’s best performance so far, and the episode had some valid things to say about corporations profiting from war and the way faith can deaden people’s ability to question, although I liked the way that Moffat, through the Doctor, still acknowledged the psychological importance of faith at the end. It wasn’t perfect - I thought Splice was irritating, and I agree that Ruby was too flippant when the Doctor first trod on the mine. Perhaps that was just her coping mechanism, but I agree that we need to see some more depth from Ruby, as she feels like quite a superficial character so far - having said that, the moment she was shot was genuinely shocking, and helped raise the episode’s stakes further. I hadn’t realised until watching your video that Mundy was played by the actress who will be the next companion, and it will be interesting to see if she ends up playing the same character (I suspect not) and if her name does have any greater significance. The repeated appearances of Susan Twist are intriguing too - another indicator of Susan’s potential return, and/or something deeper and darker?

The 6 month thing while far fatched, remember season 5 and Victoris era After Tomb of the Cybermen every one of her stories was on Earth. The next on screen other planet was actually Dulkis in Dominators. Im gonna imagine just different earth periods or it was an oversight on moffat’s/RTD’s part

Susan twist was in wild blue yonder also at the very start and space babies and devil chords and now this, cause as the doctor says their always a twist at the end aka Susan twist,

This episode was the bomb! Terrific story, great performance from Ncuti. I only have one tiny, tiny quibble with Splice sitting down to look through the family photo album in the middle of a war zone while the Doctor is standing on a landmine and people are being shot around her. Naivety is one thing, obliviousness is another. Personally, I think that one tiny element could have have been handled better. But otherwise, excellent! Like your theory about other characters named after days of the week appearing. Possible crossover with Wednesday?😂

5:30 we don’t actually know that they’ve “been together” for 6 months. We only know that 6 months has passed *for Ruby.*

For me, this one doesnt just ooze Moffat, it feels like an Episode for 12 and Clara rewritten for 15 and Ruby: - Anglican Marines - Child-parent/love crux saving the day - Doctor monologuing and some of the remarks ("quite frankly, your lifespan sucks") you can hear Capaldi -LGBT being a light hearted joke (he thinks I lke him) -Ballsy companion (Ruby walking up to him to give him the urn whike he lambasted her, and the decision to sing-hand it over felt *very* 12 and Clara) And if we're going further: - Companion apoears in a surprise episode before their premiere - Companion dies and cones back to life It was good, but i felt it could have been catered more towards Ncuti and Millie, and felt too much like a Moff showrunner ep, compared to his earlier scripts.

Moffat, moffating the most moffatiest episode that ever moffated.

The name thing reminds me of Danny Pink and the soldier named Blue. Probably just a coincidence. I don’t think they need to do the whole week. There’s enough threads going on so adding to the pantheon, mavity, snow, babies, supernatural, etc., would be overwhelming.

Think they are going the "Clara" route with Mundy/Varada.
@NankitaBR8 ай бұрын
I think they are either going the Clara route or the Doctor is actually going to "check up on them" as he said in the end of the episode and the new companion will actually be Mundy herself, which I would appreciate a lot because finally a companion that isn't from current day Earth in New Who (apart from Nardole, who for me isn't quite a full "companion", more like a side character and Captain Jack, who is only a "companion" for a few episodes).

Yeah i agree sbout millie. Shes really good, but in this episode when all the adults are playing it really seriously, she seems quite light in her acting choices. But its a minor thing. I eonder if thd 6 month thjng is just an error? Maybe the episode order changed?

Companions as days of the week? If we get characters called Tommy Tuesday and Wendy Wednesday (or Dave Saturday), then you could be on to something.

I enjoyed last weeks episode except "Space Babies" but this episode is a mixed bag for me i'll say the positives then i'll go through the negatives of this episode: The Positives: 1. Finally on an alien planet other than earth london england. 2. Finally have guns. The Negatives: 1. Hated seeing the Doctor cry that's not something the Doctor usually does Tom Baker never cried when he was on the landmine. 2. The landmine is a copy from "Genesis of the Daleks" which stretched out too long. 3. The religion again i don't know why RTD or Moffat insist on having that in the storyline. 4. Written by Steven Moffat because i think he's passed it personally. 5. No villains. 6. No one dies. 7. The little girl was annoying i'm abit over child characters 8. The Doctor's speech at the end was cringe. That's all i got too say about this episode it was alright in places but most of it was very boring.
@alexfletcher51928 ай бұрын
Dropping this episode at a time when the politics of war and weaponry are high in everyone's minds is a real look. Yes, it's highly emotional (especially with Ncuti), but that was my chief take-away from it. The in-vision commentary suggested quite a different kind of take-away...

If they feel attacked then it's on them. Religion was never the problem in the episode. Blind faith and not thinking for yourself was what the Doctor addressed and he was right.

Its fine but this one is over rated. It’s basically the landmine scene from genesis stretched out to an entire episode. Didn’t care about the lover characters at all. I git this one. 7/10

Yep, my mind went immediately to Genesis of the Daleks. I was actually expecting him to say something like, "This seems familiar," as a Dalek appears over the edge.
