When my children were young, a friend who was moving asked us to take her poodle. I was not thrilled because, to me, poodles were silly dogs with their fancy haircuts. After he came to live with us, I just got a kennel cut for him. He turned out to be the greatest dog. He loved the kids, riding in a boat, swimming, whatever we were doing, he joined in. Everyone competed to see which of us he'd sleep with every night. I don't think he had a grouchy bone in his body. I miss him.

Poodles originated as a breed used for hunting around water! And that stupid lion cut originated as a streamlined design to help them swim faster. Personally, I like them in a generic even-length puppy cut. Poodles are ridiculously clever, too, in the top ten breeds for working intelligence. We have a cockerdoodle in the family and he's a very funny character who knows he's a person and will join in your conversations (especially if you mention cheese). :D

A lot of poodles are like this when being groomed especially if you get them from a good breeder who starts desensitization at 3 weeks. Its important to do because grooming takes up a big part of their life, they have to go every 4-6 weeks sometimes 6-8 it all depends on whether or not you decide to keep up on maintenance like your supposed to or the type of cut you pup gets. I have a standard poodle and she goes every 6 weeks she's a service dog so I make sure she looks clean and put together. They're a beautiful breed all around!

This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!

I know I don't have the patience to get a job dealing with either animals or children.

i will say poodle usually tend to be a fairly easy breed to groom behavior wise. Poodles have to start VERY young and be groomed on a regular basis. I groom mine myself every 3-6 weeks (Depends on the season, I let the coat grow out in the winter). They quickly have to adapt and get used to grooming because of how EXTREMLY high maintainace their coat is. I spent months perfecting my poodle cut before realizing I hate how it looks on my dog. I just do a standard flat buzz, less work, less fru fru and so much easier to maintain.

The most interesting poodle fact I ever learned was that traditional cut for poodles actually served a purpose. Some parts shaved for mobility, and some parts covered for warmth. People like to forget that poodles were originally a working breed just like retrievers. Very cool dog that I was unfairly biased against when I was a kid lol.

Yeah, it's the sterotypically snooty Humans that have been associated with the elegant, intelligent, highly trainable (etc.) standad poodle, that have put a damper on the general view of them (IMO). @spectralumbra1568

Yep, they were originally hunting dogs that were bred to hunt water fowl. The patches of fur left on the traditional poodle cut were left to keep certain areas of the body warm when they would dive into the water to retrieve birds that were killed in the water. They also have webbed feet for swimming. I used to have a poodle mix. She was the sweetest, smartest, and most protective dog. I used to take her to a park with a small lake and she would go crazy trying to chase after the ducks. She didn't care about squirrels or cats all that much and left my smaller animals alone, but she was obsessed with ducks, true to her breed.

I think she's mentioned it before, but she also does things that she doesn't put in the videos, like expressing anal glands (she has shown ear cleaning, so you should have some idea that there's often more to it than what she does with the fur/hair). And yeah, that not a pleasant thing to have to do. So, if you weren't thinking about that ... well, sorry that you are now, but it's important to realize that she's doing some really icky stuff as well as the hard work involved in washing/combing/trimming the dog's hair.

@@hi-ve1cw there is a gland in the dog's anus that i think is their "scent gland" ie: the reason why dogs smell each other's butts. it creates and releases the "scent discharge" in some mucousy form, that rubs off as their poo exits, and sometimes it manages to get clogged where the gland cannot discharge properly. this can produce swelling as the gland continues creating more mucous while the previous amount has been unable to exit the gland due to a clog of some sort. this can eventually result in the dogs anal gland rupturing and being quite dangerous and painful to the dog. a lot of groomers make it a habit to carefully squeeze the gland to get out any mucous buildup that may exist before it becomes a problem. most owners dont even know that this gland exists.

Well he has really nice fur tight fur. We use to have poodles and we just kept them in a puppy clip instead of show type clip. I think what make this dog look like something else is all the fur on his nose when that is normally more shaved down.
@JAM661
@JAM661 Жыл бұрын
@@MM-jf1meWhat is decieving for most people is how there is so much fur around the nose. That is usually shaved down so people are use to seeing the long nose and this look sort does make him look like he is mixed with something. However the rest of him including that nice tight fur say poodle. If the owners just brush him everyday for 10 minutes she would not have needed 4 hours grooming him either. Dog like this really need to be brushed everyday. In fact all dogs should be brushed even short hair dogs. It help get lose fur off, massage the skin, help find and exam for fleas and tick and help with bonding. If you start early most dogs do not mind being brushed andsee it as a good thing especially when they get a yummy treat afterwards.

@@JAM661 I love the look of a shaved poodle snout and I love the look of the overgrown Muppet snout -- it just really bothers me when I see a neglected dog like this one. It's really sad how matted she was. I wish more owners took matting seriously, as the potentially dangerous neglect it is (e.g., when it starts pulling on skin, collects and holds urine or fecal matter close to the dog's skin, hides parasites, etc.).

What a freakin' amazing well behaved dog. Poodles (mini, standard or giant) were always the best behaved of the breeds I had come into my shop. But anyone who thinks that its easy to get through those mats, has never tried to groom, de-mat and comb/brush out a matted coat. Super job on this gorgeous guy.

Oh yeah. It's a real trial. I decided to learn how to spin so I could make yarn out of my poodles' hair, and holy cow has that been an education. Poodle hair, it turns out, may resemble sheep's wool, but it is infinitely worse to try and spin because of its tendency to mat. It mats if you even look at it funny. Carding it was a nightmare, and I had to throw away about half of the doggy fleece because the mats were just impossible. I learned lessons I will employ on the next spring "shearing", like don't do pure poodle -- blend it with wool or something -- but man, now I understand. I also belatedly learned that professional spinners who do "chiengora" (dog hair yarn) either charge extra for poodle or flat out refuse to touch it. It's that much of a pain. Worth it, though, for keepsakes that we'll cherish when they're gone. ;-)

They're incredibly smart dogs - probably would make the top of the list in dog intelligence tests if they weren't looking specifically for dogs that are willing to please and easily trainable. Because poodles are neither - they are stubborn, independent, and do not like being ordered around. They're liable to train you more than you train them if you're not meticulously careful, and they can and will outsmart you on a regular basis. That said, most of them I've had or met were also very sweet-natured and friendly, and really didn't like getting their ire up. They mostly went along to get along unless you were doing something they really didn't like. In fact, the only "poodle" I've had problems with was a cocker spaniel-miniature poodle mix that had horrendous jealousy issues and would throw a snit if she smelled another dog on you.

@@vicroc4 I don’t know where you’ve heard that poodles were independent and not eager to please? They’re extremely people oriented. They can be stubborn, but they can also be extremely biddable.. And they are ranked the #2 most intelligent breed I have no idea what you’re talking about.

So adorable! My Mom really wants a standard poodle. If I ever move back in with her, something that will only happen if her husband passes away, I plan on adopting one. She can’t take care of one herself but I’m perfectly able to. So cute! Edit: To clarify for anybody concerned. I’m an experienced dog owner, having owned several large breeds my entire life. The training for them were left mostly to me as well. I actually convinced my Mom to Not get a SP on her own. This would be My dog, that I would fully train, as well as teach how to act around a senior with some mobility issues. Also my Mom was easy to convince as she grew up around English Mastifs herself, as well as the dogs we got. Just never was responsible for them. So it was easy to show her she’s not up for that on her own. They’re just her favourite dog. Like my favourites are Shibas and Newfies.

Also a lot of people mistake their mental exercise needs for physical exercise needs. Used to get countless doodles and I learned why the groomer I was working for hated seeing them. The owners do not do the work and the fur gets insanely matted. They're kinda dumb but so sweet, and they're big dogs. They take forever.

Cider looks like a bigger version of Raven, one of my old dogs who passed away when I was a kid. I love how happy Cider looked at the end of his groom :)

As soon as I saw that adorable face and curly, coat, I thought Cider might be a poodle🐩 . He was such a wonderful well behaved boy and hope he got lots of yummy treats when he got home 😊

Guessed it from the thumbnail. Probably the only dog I would seriously consider having as a pet. They’re a beautiful and highly intelligent breed.

I’m getting one for service work because of how owner orientated they are, would go well with my golden!

Poodles are the best! We have six because we're crazy like that, LOL! Four of them are related, - two puppies and their parents, as well as two more, a rescue and a very sweet girl with epilepsy that developed when she was three. She's a smart girl, and so very sweet. However, I can't help but think she came from a mill, a bit inbred, and taken from her mother far too early. When her hair gets long, she actually sheds fluff balls we call "poodle bunnies. She also still, to this day at age 6, still tries to nuzzle nipples, even human ones. It breaks our hearts wondering about the months before we got her at about 7 months old. Also don't even get me started on our rescue boy - seven years a slave pumping sperm in aweful breeder kennels ... he had so much to learn when he came home, but he's got so much love to give. The puppies and their parents are all four exceptional, I can't talk enough about any of them either.

@@stilesthehuntindog2767 That's cool! I'm partially blind and would eventually LOVE a poodle as a guide dog, being so familiar with the breed and temprament. However, very few guide dog schools breed them, and those that do require you to have dog alergies to even be considered for one. I'm sorry, but that's just silly. I love dogs, but poodles hold my heart in their paws.

I don't know who I'm most impressed with - you for your hard work, or the dog for being so patient! 😂 Love from the UK

Thanks, Vanessa, for the matting explanation! 😁 That’s amazing that it’s possible to undo some of the matting without having to shave them down! He looks amazing. Nice job.

@JayLeeBeanz Plus they don't cause allergies if you are allergic, which is really the tipping point for me.

We had a toy poodle when I was small. She and I got menaced by some seriously scary standard poodles when we took her to the vet. I have never liked standards since. Thank you for showing an example of a sweet and obedient standard. It’s good to be reminded those dogs weren’t jerks..their owners were.
