Sometimes, you just need to visit a specialist and let them unleash their knowledge. Their fine work left me in no doubt that had I tried to sort out the LHM leak and gearbox oil leak myself, it would have gone horribly wrong! Chevronics also gave Giselle a full service, going to far greater lengths than I ever would. (an oil change is a service, right?)
Includes a look around the new Chevronics showroom, their remarkable parts stash and around the back! Features Citroen GSAs, an H van, several C6s, many BXs, 2CVs, a DS and CXs plus a Singer Vogue!
Find The Chevronic Centre on Facebook or at www.chevronics.co.uk/
Delightful HubNut goodies can be purchased at hubnut.org where you'll also find support options.
Or, support HubNut at / hubnut or via Channel memberships: / @hubnut
Don't forget to like the video if you like it, and share with your friends if you really like it! Thank you all.

I bought an AX that was right at the back of the service shop yard, windows thick with green mold, old tyres piled on top, looked a total wreck. Got an MOT, oil change & battery, it ran for years, only broke down once when the in line fuel filter under the car blocked. The front bumper fell off so I fixed it with cable ties. It was very capable in the snow, I remember, one hill that was strewn with spun out modern cars; my AX had no difficulties even on well worn tyres. I eventually sold it for more than I'd paid for it. Great car.

The only Shitreon i've ever owned was a red 1988 F reg BX TRTD Estate. Forever had the pipes blowing off the back of the front struts cus the struts were knackered be replacing them with nearly knackered struts.I had just purchased my first house and was skint. The head gasket went, quick new head gasket, all ok for a few weeks then it went again. Had the head skimmed, pressure tested, better quality head gasket and new head bolts etc, all ok till a week later when it went again. "2nd hand head head sourced and all ok after that" Did have a play with the diesel pump and turbo boost when i was doing all that. Was really quick and rev'd like the clappers. Loved sitting at 90mph on the motorway. Loved that car lol. Bought with 17500miles on the clock, scrapped at 250,000 because i could not be bothered to replace the rear suspension pipes that would spring a leak if i put some weight in the boot. Would love to drive another one some day.

That seems pretty a reasonable bill for a specialist. People tend to forget that the skills and knowledge to repair old cars cannot be gained from the 'diagnostic box' like so many newer machines. If, like Chevronics, they are getting small runs of obsolete parts re-manufactured, that doesn't come cheap as there will often be minimum amounts required. I'm always happy to support those that serve the oddball motors I've owned, they keep the whole thing alive as there's only so much you can manage with used parts and bodgery.

Fascinating but for me the location of Chevronics stirred old memories, for exactly 50 years ago I worked at the unit two doors down at No. 31. Back then the company at No. 31 were TIL Ltd. a plastics injection firm, we made camera backs and spools for Kodak, bomb nose cones, cam gears and Bulpit tea urn taps. I worked there on 12 hour night shifts as an inspector, whilst working to save money for a long summer cycling holiday in Norway. Finally I have a good reason to go back there, though I am not really in need of a classic Citroen but who knows?

Hi Ian I love the ax it brings backloads of memories I had two mk1 1.4 tud's and managed southend to Manchester and back again on £22.50 worth of diesel to pick up an extremely rare motorcycle engine in about 2008/9 . I also had a number of 1.5's as well they were great cheap transport and cheap to tax too being under 1550cc . And great when I had a younger family . My favourite tud was a 3 door 1.5D Echo in white with gt alloys which I fitted a full forte interior with beautiful semi bucket seats and also upgraded to central locking and electric windows from a forte as well as the tailgate spoiler as well . But never fitted bad boy bonnet I had on my turbocharged saxo vts engined ax with cold air intakes cut into it lol . But that one went much better than the diesel's and looked great with lacquer peel all over the paintwork that wasn't bloomed red lol . A real little hot hatch sleeper

What a lovely car park! Amazing cars. One of my teachers in high school she had a BX Estate that was red. It had a curbed exhaut tip going to the outside which ik hindsight could have suggested it was a Diesel perhaps? I remember very well that by the end of the day she waited and waited before the rear end got up. Lovely interior from that race-purposed BX inside. Oh and a friend of mine, also in primary school, had a lovely Renault 25 fully equipped with cruise control and leather interior. It was a very deluxe spec car, quite full option. Good times!

The time before that, working on a mint GSA Pallas. Before that, a new hub in an SM. Citroën specialists are becoming thin on the ground, here, so I'm glad I have him!

Well I wasn't expecting that. I bought the oil anti leak kit from these guys, installed it about a week ago, seems to be working fine, good job on that visit. Regarding the alternator light, I had a similar case in my GS, whenever the revs fell under 1000, the alt light started flickering, wanting to turn on, but once I raised the rpm, it turned off. Accidentaly I found out that the problem was with the wire connector behind the ignition switch. The actual contacts didn't make good enough contact, and power couldn't flow properly, so once the revs fell below 1000, the alt light wanted to turn on. So I cut the wires of the 3 circuits that the connector is connecting, and I run them through relays. Normal automotive relays, 40 amps each. And I have only one wire comming from the battery to the connector, (to the ignition switch), and one leaving the connector to power all 3 relay coils. Never had an issue since. And that was more than 10 years ago. So yeah, that trick works. Of course I left the two wires for the starter untouched. No need to remove those. So you might want to look into that connector behind the ignition switch, make sure it connects properly what needs to be connected. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Always nice to have mechanics who know the cars inside and out and have done the same repairs on them many, many times. As I have found, using a village garage in the middle of nowhere, one of the advantages of having a fairly common car, with a long production run, shared platforms and engines with other models, is that mechanics can probably diagnose faults and fix them with their eyes closed. It also helps if one of the mechanics runs a similar car to yours!

It also gives you piece of mind to have an expert i na particular car cast his eye over everything and give it his approval, essential for an older family motor 😎👍 Also all the invoices etc can go along with the cars paperwork to show it's history.

Less than a minute in and there's a lichen joke. Result! :) As you know, services on modern cars involve ticking lots of boxes on a pad and maybe changing the oil, then getting an ink stamp in your service book...all for a lot more than you were charged. That was indeed a proper service you paid there and it was great to see. :)

Sounds all too familiar from the times when I was driving a 30+ year old French car after being serviced at a specialist. It didn't feel much different but you felt much more secure in the car as many possible breakdowns had been averted. When the bill was below 1000€ I'd call that happy times and there always was that list of things still needing to be done. It took me over 5 years of ownership before I had the battery light sorted out on mine 😂

What a lot of lovely Citroëns! I do agree, that red metallic C6 is absolutely glorious! Frameless glass door windows! All that technology! And the interior, sumptuous! £836 comes to $1136.66, which is steep, but I believe most of it was for Labour, as from you have shown us the GSA is Labour intensive replacing items. I wonder if you can replace those perishing gators you described? Parts are reasonable, considering this is a classic, but as you stated, it is a full service, they are Citroën specialists, they are well versed in these vehicles and their excentricités. Definitely save up and have your C5 Estate properly serviced by them; preventive maintenance. Thoroughly enjoyed this!

For your alternator light: 1) ensure your battery is fully charged at rest- about 12.3-12.5 volts. 2) check the wiring leading to the alternator and the voltage regulator is undamaged and firmly connected. 3) with a voltmeter connected across the battery, start the engine and rev it to about 2K rpm. You should see 13.7 or so volts at the low end, closer to 14.5 is preferable. Anything above that, and you are overcharging. 4) with a low output condition, any number of things could be wrong, but the two most likely culprits are worn brushes or a bad regulator. I absolutely adore the GS. I've had two- not easy in the US!

Thanks for this Ian, incredible place and not too far from me. Would love to visit but looking at their website would probably end up going home with a C6. Then again that XM looks fantastic and my heart goes out to giving the Xantia with the poor paintwork a good home. Stick with my 04 C5 for the moment as I've just spent a load on it (new cam belt, 4 tyres, fixing mot issues and service).

Good that Giselle has received some attention and can safely hit the road again. The repair costs are not too bad in relation to what has been repaired. Wonderful cars in the showroom and around the building!

Every time I see a XM, I'm reminded of the most beautiful car I ever owned (XM Prestige). Their design is still more exciting than the modern-day dross!

Have a fondness for the AX as I had a fair few driving lessons in one with my instructor Ivan “the terrible” swift. 😂😊
Giselle the GSA is awake! Instantly broken... FAIL!
