Agree regarding Smith. I know Haskell speaks highly of him and learned a lot during his time at wasps. Always had time to take out to train with and teach the younger guys.. and as Haskell said, just the most gifted natural poaching back rower. The progenitor for what we see today as the mainstay of back row play.

@frankie - you throw around the legend tag way too easy. Matt was a good test player over many years. Will was excellent for 2 only. By 2018 he'd declined into being not Test standard and was a poor performer for WBs, Reds and Rebels from then on. Neither were "legends" imo

George Smith was truly one of the greats. In my opinion Pocock pips everyone for the greatest openside flanker (too bad cheika kept playing him out of position at #8 😒) But I remember seeing George Smith in the same game as Pocock against Wales and both guys were phenomenal. 1) Pocock 2) Smith and Hooper 3) Waugh Too bad Liam Gill never stuck around, he could have been as good as any of them.

Will Genia, at the start talking about himself being nothing as a schoolboy only shows his humility. Growing up playing schoolboy and club rugby against him in Brisbane, he was an out and out star, one of the best around easily. Massive respect to the humility though, top lad only wish he was still getting round!

Will Gene is always recognised back home. Sadly the PNGRU don't use him enough to help build rugby in PNG because there's a lot of love for union as for league. I guess the only problem is it's mostly a private school sports. Not like league where most public schools support.

EJ won't bring anything but division and contempt to Australian Rugby. England have an excuse, they saw the Japanese victory, but our Australia has no excuse. They have seen EJ's contemptuous incompetence in real-time with England. Look at the England team now, they are a shadow of their former selves, might be nice to blame Borthwick, but Borthwick was an EJ appointee, and this kind of damage can't be fixed overnight. Australia have made a rod for their own back with Eddie.

Great thing for Aussie rugby that Will G is nowhere near the selection committee. All he'd do is select his old mates from the failed WB teams of the Cheika era when they were no 8 in world. His mates were consistent duds from 2016 to 2020 and they're all way over the hill now. Good thing Eddie appears to be totally ignoring Will :)
