If you wonder why an episode is uploaded late, then Twitter is the place to check! I post my updates on what's happening there! Anyways, these 2 Mechs were really easy to play as because turns out missiles are pretty good. Aside from their limited range, the SRM's very fast rate of fire can clear out large quantities of smaller enemies in moment; meanwhile, it also does so much damage that you can volley your way through a hardened target. Even large Mechs can be brought down with SRMs pretty fast because they're so fat that you're hitting with all the missiles. That's good to know because it means you shouldn't ignore that SRM-6 Javelin while piloting your Atlas. The missile volleys will tear up your armor in moments. We're at the stage where LRMs are becoming more effective. I find them to be challenging to use in the beginning of the game when all the enemies are so fast and constantly close into the minimum range of the LRM. Perhaps we'll be able to make something work with a NARC beacon and take things to the next level!

Two Mechs that I definitely used quite a bit. Love them both - the Kintaro just has that bulky, brawler feel and the Dervish I enjoy just as much as the Archer, just for different types of roles. I do love that both Mechs are still quick and well armored, flexible in their loadouts. Feels like they're great anchors to build a lance with. You can always make small adjustments to slot them into a role that will work for what you need.

Yeah, I think a team of 4 Dervishes would be pretty annoying even for large Mechs since they're quick enough to stay away from dedicated close range weapons.

First up big, shout out cat. I think I said before that I love when it appears. I really like the Kintaro so was super glad to see it, I think the reason I like it so much is because of how overpowered it is for its size and the fact that it makes me play something other than autocannons and rifles. I think when I originally used it I removed LRM5 and kept all 3 SRM 6 but changed the medium lasers to small lasers to get a couple of extra heat sinks. I don't recall it having the same effect on heat as your version does with just the 2 SRM 6 which still do more than enough damage. Haven't got a Dervish yet but the flamers + LRMs are a really effective loadout.

I think one of the hard parts about modding Mechs is a psychological thing with the hardpoints. You just feel COMPELLED to put a weapon in every slot. It feels like you're doing it wrong if you don't have each hardpoint filled, but I find that sometimes it's best to leave slots unfilled because a lot of these Mechs get out of control with their weapons and are constantly riding the redline of emergency shutdown... or have 240 armor.

@@GitGudFox Now that would be fun! I do wish we could see the enemies heat level though. It would make things make more sense when using flamers. Like, how do you know if its even working or if you are just doing normal damage?
@GitGudFox3 жыл бұрын
You'll know it's working under 2 circumstances. 1) The Mech shuts down. If you have a lot of flamers, or if your lance all have a few flamers, and they gang up on a target, then you'll see the Mech just stop and slump over a bit indicating a shutdown. 2) The Mech stops fighting back and just runs around. You might not be able to shut a Mech down with 1 or 2 flamers, but you might wind up keeping their heat in the 80-95 range which basically prevents them from shooting and jumping since they'll immediately shut down.
@GitGudFox3 жыл бұрын
The Capellan Confederation would make a very advanced flamer family weapon called the "plasma rifle." 6 tons 10 damage 10 ammo per ton (would be higher in MW5... equal to likely 40 ammo per ton) Causes 7 heat on hit (flamers do 0.5 heat) Shoots at a medium range similar to large laser The plasma rifle basically shoots cartridges of styrofoam at enemies. When the weapon is ready to fire, lasers super heat the foam cartridge, instantly causing it to go from solid... to liquid... to gas... to plasma which is then ionized to become magnetic and violently projected with magnets. To make the ejected plasma aerodynamic, the barrel of the plasma rifle is designed to fire out a toroid of plasmatic energy. A toroid is basically a ring or doughnut shaped thing... similar to how some people can blow smoke circles with cigarettes. The toroid spins as it travels giving the plasma momentum and force. The target of a plasma rifle is immediately struck by a mixture of energized plasma as well as molten styrofoam that cooled on its way to the target slamming with physical force and cause instant evaporation to whatever it touches. Lastly, if the target survives, the extreme heat is immediately absorbed into the Mech. The weapon was seen as a bit barbaric and dishonorable because the heat would indiscriminately burn everything it touches in the event the MechWarrior missed and hit a building... or intentionally shot a building, but House Liao, due to being on the losing side of the Succession Wars, has no problem with the weapon if it helps preserve the Capellan Confederation. One of the Clans would adopt the weapon and alter it a bit which removed the kinetic damage of the weapon but increased the heat delivery to 10... up from 7. The weapon would not be invented until like 3068 though which is why we don't see it in MW5.

Heya Fox! Outstanding Episode as always sir! : ) I completely agree with how you ultimately redesigned the 2 Mechs. I favor the Dervish over the Treb as a Medium Missile support Mech (Love me some Missiles!). It can take more punishment and dishes out more than it ultimately takes if played as a Support Mech. It also has much better speed! Kintaro is not my favorite Mech but I wouldn't refuse to pilot it if it came to it, it just doesn't fit my preferred play style. ; )

Sometimes they can be tricky to fit into missions since they don't cleanly fit into a 200 ton mission without having a few smaller Mechs, but they definitely perform well.

Just started a new career in this game starting in Kurita space and picked up a Kintaro fairly early. Realized quickly it didn't take much to get the AI to turn it's back on me and it's speed would mean I wasn't baiting my AI lancemates for too long. So I dropped the LRM 5 for an SRM 4 and went back-armor hunting. It sits in the red after 2 volleys of SRM's... but I usually don't need more than 2 volleys and I'm usually laughing like a crazed maniac the whole time. This thing is fun as hell!
@GitGudFox Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you'll begin to notice that the AI tends to prioritize some Mechs while ignoring others. If you pilot Mechs they are less inclined to attack, you can score many brutal rear armor attacks.

I love the kintaro, after the shadow cat(i'm also a filthy clanner) and the timby it's my fav IS medium, especially in a brawly configuration like yours, never played the dervish but it seems to me similar to the kintaro, except you went for a mix of lrm and srm. The kintaro is super powerful even against heavy mechs and to some extent those wide CT assaults, fantastic mech.
@GitGudFox3 жыл бұрын
It seems like there are 2 main differences between the Dervish and Kintaro. The Dervish has symmetrical hardpoints but has 1 less medium missile hardpoint and 1 more small missile hardpoint, and the Dervish is jump capable. I guess another difference is that the Dervish is more slender with its arms more tucked in by its sides than the Kintaro.

I'd say SRMs and small lasers are the best general purpose close combat weapons. I had a Banshee with like 8 small lasers as its close combat option leavings its PPCs, AC/10 and LRMs for long range, and those 8 small lasers will cut shit up fast and for very little heat.
@Mkronox3 жыл бұрын
I really liked the dervish arms, I feel that if they where kind of zig zaged on the top and bottom they would be better for landing melee attacks, I also feel it might be a bit too tall, I would feel that being so tall with not the biggest footprint would make you easier to knock down if you get hit to much on the upper body
@GitGudFox3 жыл бұрын
It's harder to hit though because it's not just taller, but it's also narrow meaning your hits have to be a little more accurate, and missiles raining down are just that bit more likely to hit the ground instead of you.

Dervish is a pretty bad redesign, you should have either gone full brawl with 16 srm's, or went full support with 4 lrm 5's which would given you six to 8 and a half tons (JJ) of space for more armor amd/or more ammo or kept the jump jets for positioning if desired. You also could have went with one lrm 15 and three lrm 5's, and an extra ton of ammo. That would give you 50% more long ranged firepower for the same weapon tonnage. You could drop the JJ for 2 1/2 tons of armor.
@GitGudFox3 жыл бұрын
I don't agree. I already demonstrated that the Kintaro couldn't manage 12 SRMs without needing constant breaks from combat. The Dervish would perform EVEN WORSE with 16 SRMs, so I think that would make the Dervish worse. Uh, 4 LRM5s = 2 LRM10s. They're both LRM20, brother. It's the same tonnage and weaponry just in the torso. I also disagree with the LRM30. It was already demonstrated that the Trebuchet can't handle LRM30 at 50 tons. Being 55 tons is not going to make LRM30 more effective. You'd also be massively ineffective in close combat which is very common at this stage of the game with most Mechs moving faster than 81 km/h. I think both of your proposed designs make the same mistake the stock variants make: massive overreach of weaponry for a 55-ton chassis. I don't see myself using either of these proposed designs.
