Well-stated by Mr. Huxley. The peskiness of "wild facts" has always been a sort of Wolfsbane to the werewolves of academic science i.e., those professionals who remain committed to a certain brand of current knowledge, which support a mainstream theory or even dogma. Like well-cut diamonds, truth often has many facets, which are not readily apparent to all observers, yet reflect desirable light nonetheless. The value of science is self-correction over time, despite disbelief and even disdain, for new evidence surfacing with improved methods and observational techniques. Perfection is a very rare bird to see in science.

It is a wonderful thing that canines are psychic. I wonder what they think about a scientist that is better at selling books than doing work that anyone other than tabloids and their "researchers" can respect. Were I to do such work I would prefer to convince my colleagues of the truth and efficacy of my models than the general public.

40:00 - 45:00 I infrequently enjoy people like Huxley , handing The institution of scientific enquiry it's own arse on a plate. He describes the "switching on" of genes by novel environmental experiences and almost in one breath, also describes "big five " personality traits (albeit incompletely) , and the dynamic of self- ego- persona and hints , all too briefly on the individual and collective unconscious. Sadly , science , being a prisoner of its own methodologies , rejects the gifts of this " mind". That proof which science demands , is costing us as a species , many valuable years, decades, centuries....Who was it that said " science is a harsh mistress" ?

@siyaindagulag.
@siyaindagulag. 2 жыл бұрын
@@sergiocampanale3882 Yes. As visionary as he was, Huxley was unencumbered by institutional chains and even those of academia; to an extent. Within his 1959 lectures at Santa Monica ,he alludes to the value of " bridge builders" ,between science, the arts and religion ,as well as the scientific disciplines themselves. A recent,striking example is the very scientifically involved work of Dr Iain Mc Gilchrist (you should see his bio)! If every scientist were to familiarize themselves with THAT work , well, the ship , once turned around, may just find itself on a more suitable, human- centric course. Cheers !

ESP is a given, all animals have this skill getting inside other's heads, to avoid being eaten! Humans have lost this gift except for the few who continue to perfect it, which is easily done if you believe, practice intuitive acts like guessing who is calling, then trust your results. The trick is to just let it come to you passively like other critters do ~~

Huxley at times confuses changes in a personality, which is normally established early in life, with changes in learned behavior in response to both maturation and experience. Unique, yet stable personality traits, do enable us to have continuity of character across the lifespan and make us knowable to others, while all else is indeed ephemeral.

Personality is a very shallow and limited perspective of a human being. Rather fixating on personality, instead we should learn to be authentic. Instead of just playing out our early life experiences and environments, which is how personality is formed. Some people have great parents, who allow children to be free and safe to develop uniquely. Most people, have parents who push their own agendas with little self awareness, which do more damage than good. The result being, people who think they are their personalities. Which is, in my opinion, a terrible mistake.
