I donated blood for the first time in October and I'm going this Thurdsay. The staff treats you like you're some kind of god, I got a free pencil with a little nurse on top of it as a thank you gift. It didn't hurt, all in all (from the paperwork to them making sure you're ok before lettign you go) it took about 30 minutes, max. Seriously people, instead of spending your day on Facebook, go and donate life, it's a great feeling to know that you're gonna save someone's life :D

I'm 18 going on 19. A friend of mine told me that the IPO in Lisbon (hospital for those who suffer from cancer, in Lisbon - Portugal) was really in need of blood. I went there, after school in my way home and it was so quickly... I got home feeling really great... and it doesnt even hurt or anything. I'm sorry for the bad english. I just wanna share my experience with those who want to start giving blood.

this is a much better advert! i have complained several times to the scottish advert people for their campaings as they are soo depressing and off putting that it puts me off. this on the other hand is a great advert! good work!

These blood donors are helping me too- I take 2 injections every week, without them my immune system would fail to work and I would get extreemly sick. Over 17000 donors per bottle give me the cells I need to keep me healthy.

I always laugh at these commercials, I don't give blood because I can't. If I gave blood, I'd have to go to the hospital to get blood.

@Atriticuss Not really sure what the fda is ( I agree with you) but that restriction also applies in other countries so I think the red cross also has something to do with it.

Thank you. I don't know who gave me blood, but I will pray for them. I hope they get the best out of their lives. I'm 14 and I have e beta thalassemia. My blood type is b+. This blood holds so much importance. Please donate. I have one every month When I had my blood transfusion there was a 8 year old girl. I felt really bad for her.

@labizella they probably use standard sized "containers" which would make it difficult to take smaller measures of blood from you. you need a higher body mass for the same reason that big muscle-bound guys can drink more than shorter people without feeling the effects. if they take too much blood due to the fact you have a lower body mass you will feel the effects much faster and more intensely, risking a faint/fit etc situation, and it will not be nice. its a pity if you're totally willing :(

i think this advertisement is kinda insensitive. it's true that the hospitals need loads of blood, but i don't think people can just cast away their fear of needles and blood as easily as tearing a sheet of paper up.

That's not good! I dont really know what platelets are but potency is largely down to a good flow of oxygen in the blood so it must of affected that.

i have 22 years,i'm from Roumania and i want to donate blood but i can't because i have just 54 kg and 1,58 hight and they say that u must have 55kg. I think this is the biggest stupidness that i heard.I am really not skinny but I don't understand.I have to get fat to donate blood!?

Is it possible to sell blood? I probably wouldnt but theres a lot of people in financial difficulties sitting on a potentially untapped resource. Excuse the pun. It may seem immoral but some people are in financial dire straits and any extra income could go a long way.

Sorry but I'm not a fan of this ad, it makes out to people that them not giving blood makes them cold-hearted and feeling guilty. I think there is a better way of persuading people give blood.
