Minfilia being a miner was mentioned back in 2.1. when F'Lhaminn met back up with her. I don't blame you guys for missing it since it was in one line of dialogue. Edit: correcting the spelling of Minfilia and F'Lhaminn

Everyone is upset about Thancred not hugging her. Some say it is because of animation limits, but as someone who started in Ul'dah? I don't think it would be part of his character. His weakness is not wanting to show how much he cares. This man has been through a lot too so it's part of him protecting himself (at least in his mind).

It's also a cultural barrier I think. Japanese folks rarely hug if they're not related by blood or romantically involved.

Indeed, he was also an orphan and from his word, he never had known love that normal child would have received. He treats the world as acquaintances and keeps a distance just to observe.

Which is why a certain scene in Endwalker was such a big deal. Culturally, animation-wise, and for character development.

Since Thancred just wont come out and say what's wrong, Minfilia is left to fill in the blanks all by herself. And you can't blame her for the conclusion she arrived at.

This section is sometimes considered the weakest part of the 5.0 MSQ, and I can understand why. But ever since it was pointed out to me just how much it's a metaphor for Minfilia's problems, I've liked it a lot more. Magnus's wife sacrificed herself to find hope for the future. She tried to pass on the stone that would power the Talos, and dedicated it to her husband and son. But when it was found, he couldn't appreciate it. He hated the Talos for what it represented, and only wished he could have his wife back instead. Minfilia sees this, and recognizes the parallels. The original Minfilia sacrificed her life to save the First, and passed on her power and spirit to the new Minfilia. But she's sure that Thancred hates her for it, and would just like to see her gone and the original returned to him. When she sees Magnus play out that attitude perfectly, she's thrown into despair, sure that it has to be true. And Thancred's too emotionally tangled up to correct her. If it weren't for Urianger's excellent job at comforting her, this could be a lot worse.

Goddamnit Urianger! You're supposed to be the overly verbose stoic guy whose lectures we only half listen to! Where do you get off opening your heart, talking about your regrets, and giving heartwarming pep talks!? I was not prepared for this from you!
