I have only taken three two week vacations in my life. I’m now 65. I did however take an hour nap every workday at lunch most of my life. Until about ten years ago. I feel it too. I need to go back to naps again. Made a huge difference.

Brilliant talk!! I am a serial napper, have been, for as far as I can remember, also a lover of vacations, breaks and a good R&R, (rest and relaxation, not Rum and Rumba hahaha!!) Our Western go-go-go culture is leading us to a cliff, at maximum speed, GDP has outlived its Importance, A tiny Kingdom in the Himalayas - Bhutan, measures what's Important - Gross National Happiness. Thanks Sara - I hope the policy wonks, are paying attention NOW!!!

Very interesting talk. I don't like to sleep at all, but I can recognize the usefulness of sleep and dreaming. From today on, I am going to develop new habits concerning healthy sleeping: 1. I'm going to take a nap whenever I feel I need to do it. 2. I'm going to take a nap on Wednesday afternoons for less than 60 minutes. 3. I'm going to use my breaks wisely: meditation, exercise, videogames and creative activities. 4. I'm going to sleep more. These are my new challenges for 2016!

Great Sara! We agree with your suggestions on getting more rest and balance, just like each yoga class ends with savasana (final resting pose). Good work! Namaste.

I would like to take more nap during the day, but I don t have time. I work all day long and I study at night. I started to meditate TM and it is working to me, I am feeling more ``restful´´ , but here in São Paulo city we take our lifes at full speed and I hate it

The solution should be reduce the hours of work and the philosophy of being succesful. My ambition put pressure on me and on the people who is around me. Nobody said that. Before the industrialization, people did not work so many hours as today and people had less distraction around.

Now if we could just get people to stop honking and beeping their damn cars every time they unlock or lock them with the sound waking us up in our homes or taking a nap at the park. ridiculousness.

No no... don't take nap! Sleeping more at night is superior, because it is sweeter than daytime sleep! If you have no sleep debt, you’re actually unable to fall asleep during the day. If you can’t do that, then nap is the next best solution. It is not my idea, our ancient wisdom says that. By the way guys, I'm from India. If you need any help, you can communicate me.

So after 15 minutes of clearly stating the need for naps, she then says naps are not for everyone and can make you irritable. We should just switch tasks or take a vacation now and then. Shaking my head.

Yeah, working less sounds good but what about the loss in pay? There's no way my boss is going to pay me the equivalent of 40 hours for 30 hours of work. I work hourly, the people working on salary usually work over 40 hours a week and are ground to a nub from the work load.
@Aelanna
@Aelanna 10 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Alot of people work so many hours not because they want to, but because they have to. Paid vacation? Alot of jobs don't give any of that any more. Rest sounds wonderful, but you can't rest and pay bills.

25 hr working week? work 5 hrs a day plus the weekend off. Just got to find someone to pay the mortgage and pay the bills. Is she preparing us to what is to become of this world? Well thank you for the warning, I better take a nap.

Fil Ratatagia That's what I've got right now, YEAH!!!! What's wrong with 5 hours a day? If that's beyond your expectations than no you won't be able to do it. Just keep on plugging away for your 8 hours + a day
@tracker914
@tracker914 9 жыл бұрын
mspixiedust100 Thanks for the reply. We should all aim for that goal of 5 hour day. I just need to change my expectation to what is necessary rather than accumulating debt. Which is why I work 40 + hours a week just to menage the lifestyle of keeping up with the Jones. I am in the advance stage of making that change. I do like and practice the 10 - 20 min nap as well. I set my alarm to make sure I don't go over 20 minutes and it works well. And, I also read that the Liver dumps toxin into the digestive system during deep sleep between 10 pm and 2 am during the night. So the advise given that we should be in bed from 9 pm to be able to allow our body's detox effectively. Can you shine some light on this in your next talk please? Thanks again.

Fil Ratatagia I understand what you mean. I think the suggestion to be in bed by 9:00 p.m. is excellent. But so difficult to do. I've always heard 10:00, but never 9:00. Do you fall asleep easily for a nap? I can't.

What if we just don't fall asleep when we try to nap? Often, if I take a day off from work, it will be a Wednesday. Because that allows me to get refreshed in the middle of the week. 40 hours a week is just manipulated number. Where in the universe does it say it has to be 40 hours a week?? Most people do it because they can't handle anything else though. They're sheeple.

Wahhhhhhhh!!! She thinks because a little rest is good, more is better--for work productivity, the economy, for gender parity, etc. That's BS. I'm glad this video is 9+ years old and what she espouses has NOT come to fruition. The last thing we need are more people with more time to wait in line at a Starbuck's drive-thru or watching Whoop-sy Goldberg pontificate on The View. Sheesh.
