Tell me about what you struggle with the most when communicating. We can absolutely work to speak better and be heard!

My problem is that my brain goes first to my native language and my delivery is slower than I would like it to be. I’m constantly translating and trying to make it make sense when it comes out of my mouth.

I learned lots from this video. I've always written better than I've spoken, when I write, I also don't swear to get a point across. If I could speak the way I write, I'd be golden. lol I WILL keep up with your videos for knowledge. Thank you. I can relate to reading fiction vs non fiction, I like documentaries too.

as an imported Italian and a neurodivergent person I have to say....neurotypicals are very stuck in their ways of communication and lack the ability to learn our neurodiverse language so communication is much more complicated for those who are part of the minority. Thank you for sharing resources.

I had a KZbin channel couple years ago. I had about 10 videos on it maybe 100 subscribers. But I was always so freaking nervous about being judged which I know is I shouldn’t be like that. But I’m so worried about what I look like when I sound like an am I being presentable professionaland giving information that is informative to the viewers.

"Auditory clutter words". Love it. Great topic. I'm in your camp on this. Your points were right on the mark. I'm retired now but coached many people in my career on how to communicate effectively. Unfortunately, language and communication skills are too often ignored in school. You can be brilliant, but if you can't communicate any of it, that brilliance is of less value than someone with average knowledge who can communicate useful information to others effectively and get things done. Thanks

Yes, schools DON"T spend much time at all on effective communication skills. Education encourages us to listen and become BRILLIANT, like you mentioned. I love what you said about how effective communication is less valuable than someone else with common knowledge that gets things done by their communication skills. Unfortunately, we have away more followers but not many leaders. We desperately need more great leaders! There are great leaders but they just have not discovered themselves yet!
@moniquelemaire5333Ай бұрын
What an excellent lesson 💯. Yes, without proper communication our society eould not function, and without proper communication our relationships don't function. Your point on reading a lot is very good. It's eady to tell if a person likes to read or not simply by the vocabulary or lack thereof. I think this is probably your best video yet!!🎉 Love your channel. Keep up the great work 👍. Miss Monique 🙂🙏🌷💗

Howdy hi hi, I very much like the final point you put on your video about reading. One of the things I realized, while going through a very rough patch in my life was that I needed to change my self talk. My inner voice if you will. The things that we all say to ourselves. And mine was pretty negative. In more technical terms, when we specifically set out to say positive things to ourselves. It is called an affirmation. The first time I actually did one. It was a simple audible statement. Steven, I like you. Silly I know. But as it turns out, for me it wasn't so silly. I immediately guffawed. Something I don't think I had ever done before and have certainly never done since. A guffaw can be described as the laugh typically heard done by the Disney character Goofy. Getting to the point, with reading you are absolutely right in that it follows different neural pathways and can help to reinforce ideas and learning. What I realized with the whole affirmation story was that there are various pathways this can take. You can write the idea, read it, say it aloud, say it with your inner voice, use the first person and the third person( I think this about me, or Steven I think this of you. You can type it out on your phone or computer, or hand write out. The more varied the ways in which an idea reaches us, the more importance it will seem to have to our subconscious. One of the big things that our minds do when we sleep is to process what short term memories are transferred into long term memory. Having a thing repeated often enough is one way to ensure it is implanted into long term memory. But also via taking advantage of all the different perspectives in consuming an idea. So yeah, your final point is spot on and really important.

I was in my 20's when a therapist told me, "the quality of your life experience is directly proportional to your ability to communicate." I told her she had lived in California too long. And then proceeded to try to prove her wrong. I'm 70 now - and I remember this...because, well....guess what?!

If I could just add another key point, in my opinion, it would be to please speak the English language correctly! I can't tell you how many times I hear misuse of words and not only do I cringe, but I also focus so much on that misuse that I zone out what the person is saying! Example, is and are. I was taught that is is singular and are is plural. Yet I continue to hear is used incorrectly. Ok. My rant is over! Thanks for reading!
