I saw that when we stopped using our "cute" intro clip people watched longer. It hurt my ego, but it helped the channel getting rid of it.

great video, very informative but the most important part I think is to do something you love doing, if not you will just get bored and give up, so make sure you create a channel about something you are passionate about. cheers for the info.

You're absolutely right about new accounts. I started a brand new channel, not associated with this one, about 3 months ago. And started uploading videos and shorts right away. And youtube busted my hump for weeks, making everything sooo difficult, including but not limited to insisting I verify my account, but also making the "verify your account" process extremely difficult. It took weeks to verify my account, add a phone number, etc. And the al gore ithm still seems to hate my new channel. For example, subscribers often report my videos don't appear in their feed, even though I select notify subscribers, and it's only one or two videos or shorts per day. Then there's the down side of being transparent, authentic, and reachable (including listing an email address not associated with g m a i l) - sometimes there are 80 new emails, sometimes a fair bit of spam, but hate emails are rough. I think the worst one so far was an individual who felt it necessary to tell me I'm too ugly to be on youtube, and that I should just 'die already'. It'd already been a not great day that day and I didn't need that. Also, sometimes people will take the time to give a thumbs down rather than just scroll away. I got about 145 thumbs down on a short that wasn't misleading or objectionable. My best guess on the thumbs down craze is "stuff happens". A sense of humour and a thick hide are vital, online and offline these days. 😀😂

I'm 45 years old. Ive always had an interest in woodworking. My fiance finally got me to start pursuing my passion a couple years ago. All of the woodworking KZbin channels have big shops and expensive tools. One channel I follow talked me into starting my own channel. So I started one for beginners without using expensive tools. I also do some comedy shorts because everyone needs a laugh now and then I'm working on learning my editing. I finally got over 200 subscribers id love to get monetized. But if I help even one person get started woodworking it's worth it

Some very good ideas. As an audio engineer, thanks for putting it first. 👍🏼 I have tried to research and follow the stats available to help create what viewers seem to like. My most valued advice, be genuine in the material. 2nd most important, reply and interact. (It really is the best part of it all). It was valuable to watch along with you as you confirm what I've learned and "tried" to implement. Thank you for positive reinforcement and encouraging us to have fun.

Thank you. These are great tips. I have a small KZbin channel where I experimented with different videos many years ago, but was never on camera. Computer games videos worked out really badly for me (less than 100 views in 5 years), much better was videos where I wore a costume to model for my website with the intention of embedding it. Those were very brief videos showing movement. The most views that I got over years was nearly 8K. Until middle February 2025, I am still 47. For Discord calls and video use, I got myself a sound mixer recently with XLR microphone. Since I needed a functional camera in any case, I got myself a Canon 600D which I am still somewhat figuring out. My Smartphone does not always pick up the sound from my sound mixer, I suspect that the plug is partially coming off due to cable weight. My next plan is to create videos wearing a costume and talking about various topics, but I am still thinking about some ideas.

Thank you kindly for this, perhaps I do not interact as much as I ought to with listeners. Music industry is also taking a dive. I appreciate this channel, subscribed immediately as I saw your age and background, actually - we need more representation and an algorithm recommendation change on this site, particularly for the older or more working class audiences so this is absolutely lovely! A hearty cheers

Sometimes there are days when I upload a video that I don't want to see anything called views it just brings me down when I see less than 100 on about 84% of my videos hardly getting over 100. Most of my shorts get more views than my long form videos and a few live streams I've done but I can probably count on my hands that maybe less than 10 videos only got 100+ views. My only guess is because my channel hasn't been a year yet I'm never going to get 500+ views until after 3 or 4 years in the business when people start to recognize or search my channel and it reaches out to a bigger audience.

I absolutely agree with all you say 100% But the problem for us little tubers is that the algorithm sucks. If it's not giving us a decent reach how can we even get the chance to be seen. I've done videos with full SEO, description, thumbnail, keywords etc etc etc. I've also done videos with nothing, no info and they've been given bigger reach. It makes zero sense. We're told to do all the things to grow but then it doesn't work, very strange that a video with nothing outperforms it. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on it..? Regards, Ken.
