I find it funny that people trust that a scientist can look at a planet 100 million light-years away and tell you what the atmosphere has on it. That isn't fact, that's an assumption.

They got me with that lie about the lab creating life 20 years ago. Learning the truth behind that lie fundamentally change my world view. Thank Dr. James Tour for a detailed explanation. Even the laymen can say science could explain everything but it takes so much more scientific knowledge to know that science can't explain the beginning of life. There's no way to explain the work of James Tour to even a high school student. The person listening at least need to have taken Chemistry 101, but by then most students would already have their world view solidified.

Hebrews 1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

Nothing as defined by Aristotle is the "absence of anything" or "what rock's dream about" Scientists would never be able to create something out of nothing because anything they would use to create would exist inside a created universe.. which is something. Unless they can materialize something out of nothing, but how do you do that without having the materials to make something materialize? Outside of using your sheer Force of Will? Then you ARE using something tooooooo materialize something out of nothing. Which is a different process than how the universe came about. Space, Matter, Time which includes the Material needed to form stars, planets etc., materialized out of the absence of anything! What I never hear apologist like Cliff bring up is where did the materials come from that were in the Big Bang. Something created Space, Matter and Time. That Material had to come from somewhere. Did the material will itself into existence? Was it a Law of Physics? That is a crucial point in the argument I think is unfortunately missed. If the universe was created by a process of nothing, then the material used plus the laws of physics etc., to make it all work would of had to be put together in a way that everything does it's job out the gate like the inner workings of a Grandfather clock. How does nothing accomplish that? For me, God is the most plausible explanation that has the explanatory power needed to satisfy the requirements. God is the Author of space, matter and time. He is not made up of them. The Laws of Physics, which are more like observations, but do not explain cause, come from a Law Giver, God. This is a long post and I could go on longer, but I've listened to dozens of apologists and no one has ever brought up this point that I've seen.
@ivandito
@ivandito 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheSaiyanRace your point is exactly his point, God is the only plausible explanation on how something came from nothing, it cannot be explained aside from God, if people were able to understand it then you would have the knowledge and power of God, and hence, the mystery remains
@TheSaiyanRace
@TheSaiyanRace 3 жыл бұрын
@@ivandito Sure, we are saying the same thing in terms of causal power, but my point was an attempt to hone the argument even more. People who don't believe in God as a casual power typically only deal with the universe after the Big Bang took place in terms of explaining away God. If they do talk about causal power their arguments range from a universe generator to multiple universe's, but they still don't explain where the material came from to make the generator or universe. When arguing about something from nothing, I would like to see an apologist press someone of an opposing view in confronting that specific point as opposed to dancing around it. I like Cliff. He has a lot of good arguments. I'm only stressing my point because I've listened to apologists from John Lennox to William Lane Craig to NT Wright and many more. No one had ever pressed this point.

He just explained a drive in the universe that occurs in a setting where the right amounts of the right ingredients were placed there. So someone worked a lifetime or two to figure out what to put there and put it there. Then, they added something, like agitation and or heat, or sunlight. Simple. Where did those things all come from? How did they get there? By whose DESIGN ? What did he prove a controlled possibility of? Now, if he wanted cell division, he has to give the cell a design. Where is he going to get the design for the cell that could possibly come about someday? The experiment was actually a failure. And he wouldn't have the billions of years for all it's combinations that did not result in a single cell. It doesn't explain the explosion at the Cambrian era. It also doesn't explain why all the failed attempts are not evidenced along with the fossils that are present. There are no transitory life forms. It does not match the theory they were trying to prove. Instead, they showed him some eyewash. And he was wowed by it. So why did Jesus say, blessed is he who has not seen and has yet believed? Why did Jesus say, it is your faith that has made you well ?

At 23:40 Cliffe talks about Alexander Solzhenitsyn and says he placed his trust in Jesus Christ and converted to Christianity, I've not been able to find any link with Solzhenitsyn and Jesus Christ or Christianity. Certainly he mentioned God a few times in some of his writing, for all we know he could have meant any God ( there are plenty to choose from). I just watched his entire Harvard speech from 8th June 1978, and as far as I can recall, not once did he mention either Jesus or Christianity. I'm happy to be proved wrong if someone can find a quote from Solzhenitsyn where he mentions Jesus Christ and/or his thoughts on Jesus.

Charles B Thanks for that Charles, an interesting read. As I said, he doesn't mention Jesus or his conversion. He talks about God being multi-dimensional and every religion that exists on earth represents some side, or face of God, from that I would surmise he believes in a kind of deist God. When asked about the most important and defining moments of his life he says there are two..1. the army and 2. his arrest. You'd think if he was a committed Christian that Jesus and Christianity would be at the top of his list.

Charles B Perhaps Charles, It's just strange that he doesn't seem to mention Jesus Christ himself in any of his writings that I can find. That's not to say he didn't mention him, there could well be a book out there written by Solzhenitsyn which talks about Jesus and Christianity in great detail. He was a very complicated man who went through a lot of hardships during his life. His book "A day in the life of Ivan Denisovich" is a great book about the struggles in a Russian gulag camp which he experienced at first hand.

9:23 Whose position does this support? If it is unlikely that this kind of planet to exist at all, and if there were/are many of them, does that not just decrease the probability of it forming by chance?
@danweaver4304
@danweaver4304 4 жыл бұрын
Anyone who thinks time + random chance can create life from rocks + water has no understanding of the fabulously complex factory operating inside of living cells. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see. Darwin thought cells were simply the smallest building blocks from which all life evolved. The scientists of his day called it protoplasm. Living cells had nuclei (where DNA is stored), cell walls, and protoplasm - the magical elixir of life. Today we know better. Analogy: you walk into a forest and spot a tree on which is carved “Jonny & Mary”. You know immediately the tree did not grow oddly by chance. It is obvious there was a carver who left his mark! No one tries to imagine how improbable such a marking would be, and no one tries to calculate how long it would take nature to produce such a marking. This is 10 letters from a code called English, and it is extremely simple. It will disappear after the tree dies. It does not seek to replicate itself. It produces nothing. Yet some find it shameless to propose life could have formed simply by time & chance.

Even assuming the scientists the kid is talking about have accurately gauged the composition of the atmospheres of these far away planets, you need far far far FAR more than just the right atmospheric composition for life to be possible on any planet. There are hundreds, maybe by now thousands of characteristics of a planet and its environment for that planet to be a candidate to host life, with more discovered nearly every day. Here are just a very few off the top of my head, in no particular order: 1) Must be in the right kind of galaxy. Some are too close to other galaxies which cause a lot of gravitational interference. Even if they are in a good location, most galaxies are the wrong shape, elliptical or irregular. You need one that is a nice spiral. Enter: Milky Way... 2) The candidate planet (CP) needs to be in the right part of this spiral galaxy, away from the center to avoid the gravitational interference and the deadly collective radiation of the crowded phone booth of the central mass of stars. But too far out and the parent star won't be able to make enough heavy elements for planets. 3) The CP needs to be orbiting the right kind of star. Most are too big (too hot and unstable) and others are too small and weak. The parent star also cannot be part of a binary star system (which by itself eliminates an estimated 85% of all stars!) because that would destabilize the CP's orbit. 4) The CP needs to orbit this star within its habitable zone, which is pretty narrow. The sun's is just 90 to 100 million miles out, we're at 93. 5) The CP needs to be in the right kind of solar system. In particular, it needs neighbor planets that are near and large enough like Jupiter and Saturn (and thus with strong enough gravitational fields) to suck up any bloodthirsty marauding asteroids or comets that would otherwise hit the CP. But these larger planets also need to be small and/or far away enough that their gravitional fields don't interfere with the CP's orbit. 6) The CP needs to have a relatively large moon that helps to stabilize its orbit and create tidal effects that are significant enough to churn up enough nutrients from the ocean to the shore to make life possible in the intertidal zone, and by extension, elsewhere. 7) The CP needs to be the right size -- too large and the surface gravity would cause the atmosphere to be choked with ammonia and methane, and past a certain point its gravity makes it impossible for animals and plants to grow or even move. Too small and it can't hold an atmosphere at all. Note that Mars is not much smaller than earth and is thought to have once had a much thicker atmosphere. But Mars' gravity was too weak to hold its atmosphere against the solar wind so it has mostly leaked away. 8) The CP needs to be the right composition. Heavy elements are critical for life; thus gas giants need not apply. 9) The CP needs the right ratio of land and water surface area. 10) The CP needs have the right axial tilt relative to its plane of orbit to moderate climate. 11) The CP needs to rotate at the right speed -- too fast and the surface winds would make plant life, and thus animal life, impossible. Too slow and the nights would be too cold and days too hot. 12) The CP needs to have a crust that is just the right thickness. Too thick and there are no tectonic plates to resupply the surface with life-critical nutrients. Too thin and volcanoes dominate the surface. The difference between the two isn't much. Kenneth Boa and Robert Bowman put it this way: "Imagine a pizza restaurant needing to use sensitive equipment to ensure that their pizza crusts stayed between, say, 0.181 and 0.182 inches!" These are just a very few of hundreds of requirements for a life-friendly planet, but even this dozen by itself narrows down the field to such a degree as to make the average disaffected college student or sci-fan frown. Take all of the factors into account and planets with life of any kind, never mind intelligent life, are so few and far between that chances are pretty good that earth is the only game in town. Now this is not to say that for certain there is no other life out there, it's still quite possible and the Bible says nothing about it one way or the other. The point is to show how fragile are the conditions for life anywhere in the universe and that these things need to be studied in depth before making obtuse pronouncements about them as this kid has done.

That chemicals react with each other is not in dispute by anyone. Or even substances "self-organizing" to a very limited degree isn't disputed. Put oil and water in a blender and no matter how long or on how high a setting you run that blender, the oil and water will self-segregate as soon as you turn the blender off. There are other somewhat more sophisticated examples of matter self-organizing, like certain chemicals mixed together in a solution that turn from blue to red to blue to red, back and forth like a blinker. Various salt compounds form crystals, etc. But to get from such simple examples as these to even a protein, never mind a DNA or RNA molecule, double-never mind a living cell, is like thinking blowing up a pile of bricks enough times will cause them to sooner or later to land as a 5-star hotel, complete with guests and staff. Even billions of years of this will not get you any closer to the hotel, only the finest brick dust.

The problem lyes in our idea of what nothing is. Conceptually it’s very difficult to understand the universes idea of nothing. Math would prove that zero is not a number therefore it doesn’t exist, it’s a place holder something that makes math work for us. Just like trying to rationalize what “nothing” is in terms of what he’s talking about “nothing” is a rationalization for something we don’t understand scientifically, it’s a place holder.

this guy literally gives the same answer for why people believe in aliens, "the universe is so big". okay what's the best evidence there is other life or the possibility for life let alone advanced life? typically no answer in my experience, the problem is that the universe's size is a necessary thing in order for it to exist. hawkings knew this, hugh ross, lawrence krauss to name a few know this and the reason it has to be is that if the mass density of the start of the universe was any bigger or smaller than the whole thing would not exist, the range for that size had to be within the weight of a dime, or if you stretched a tape measure over the whole length of the universe and put gravity on a inch marker and it moved one inch one way or another than the whole does not exist. Reason if it's that much heavier than the universe doesn't expanded fast enough and it only forms black holes and neutron stars, to light it expands to fast and you never have any elements over iron forming because you need those early elements to form into stars and go through a life cycle bringing in heavier elements necessary for life.

It details how practically every detail of our planet, solar system, Galaxy, and universe is needed to sustain our planet. It destroys the notion that there are multiple "earth-like" planets in our Galaxy that can produce and sustain life. This is a statement of ignorance.

In those 13.7 Billion years (gotta love the point-seven!), the universe started, allegedly had sufficient time to create AND destroy stars more productive than our own sun, then filled the universe with sufficient carbon to support the formation of living cells. Any idea how many such stars would be needed to create enough carbon for life? Humans represent only a tiny fraction of all living things, and there appears to be plenty of carbon not involved in any living thing. We can crudely estimate 8 Billion people x 10 Trillion cells/person x 4 Billion atoms of carbon/cell. We’re up to 3.2E+32. Add other life (all plants + animals) which represent 1000 times as much carbon as humans. Multiply by another million to estimate all carbon not involved in life. So we’re up to 3.2E+41. Now consider how vast space was 5 Billion years ago (according to cosmologists, this would be the earliest time to the first supernovae) and how it needed to be filled with at least 3.2E+41 atoms of carbon per earth-sized volume? I’d reckon about a trillion suns larger than our Sol would need to have gone supernova to accomplish the task. Evidence suggests no such thing happened. Instead, all of the necessary carbon would have been created in the Big Bang, when the density of the young universe would have been so great, not even light would have escaped its gravity distortion.
@danweaver4304
@danweaver4304 4 жыл бұрын
Another possibility is carbon creation occurs at the center of the earth. That is, pressure so great nuclear fusion is taking place - even today! We don’t really know what’s at the core of our own planet, let alone the cores of other planets.

(Or as someone else worte here: 'out of spiritual biases') Perhaps, if you made that transition, you may be tempted (as most are these days) to see the terms as non-exclusive? Such as an agnostic atheist (or agnostic theist like cliff might be)? (Gnostics regarding the question of claiming knowlege - And Theisme that of 'practicle' believing a proposition).

P.G. Burgess When I was an atheist that's exactly how I thought. Every atheist friend of mine was exactly the same way. We always looked down on spirituality in general as a crutch. I mean it's not science after all was what I used to say. That was my attitude in a nutshell. I got that same vibe from most internet atheists I hung around as well as in various debates between atheists and theists. So I can't speak for the scientific community as a whole but I would wager that if they're are atheists then they tend to be biased against any type of theist option. There's always exceptions of course. And yes I guess I consider myself to be an agnostic theist. I don't really put a lot of weight into these terms personally.

170221dn No, not correct. God's law is not for his benefit or because he wants his ego stroked, no. God's law is in place because it benefits us. It benefits us if we follow it, it benefits us if we worship him, it benefits us if we follow him. He is the best thing in the universe. So a good,loving and a personal God would shine the light on the best thing there is, right. Whats the best thing? HE IS! He is the God who gave you life, but he did not give you life so you can go murder, degrade, hate or lie to another person. God does not take pleasure in punishing wicked people despite what atheists like to believe. God is a perfect,loving and caring being, there is not 1 ounce of evil in him. He can not do evil. Consider how kind, loving and forgiving he is that he sent his only son to die so that our evil can be forgiven through him dying on a cross. If you have done no evil in your life then you dont need his forgiveness and you are good to go. BUT if you have lied,blasphemed his name,hated, stolen,committed adultery and so on, you are in desperate need of his forgiveness for the evil you have done. Because Jesus Christ is perfect and sinless and died for us he can grant you forgiveness if you repent of your evil doings and turn to him, he promises you he will forgive and grant you internal peace of the soul and mind, and after your death you will be with him in Heaven for eternity.This is his PROMISE to you, and Jesus Christ does not lie. But if you choose to reject Jesus, you are rejecting God's mercy and love and you will answer for your crimes against God and the evil you committed in your life, and if you are guilty, and I assume you are, just like 99.9999% of the world is you will be judged for it, and if you are found guilty of sin you can not be in the presence of God. In other words he is not sending anybody to Hell. People are sending themselves there and God is trying to save you through Jesus. He is offering you and me a gift of eternal life which we sooo do not deserve.

bonnie43uk If you applied the same amount of doubt & questioning to your own worldview, then you would go much further. It is very easy to question someone else's worldview but very hard to question one's own worldview. If you questioned your own worldview, then you would come to see the legitimacy of a Christian Theistic worldview. The problem is though, is that, you don't really want to. So, it is not an issue of reason & logic but an issue of what you want. If there really is No God & No Immortality, then life would end at the grave for everyone. Period. That would be the end. So, if you and everyone else are heading for the grave, then nothing anyone believes & does in this life will change & alter that final destination. Therefore, why would it matter beyond your own opinion what anyone believes & does in this life ? I have never heard or read a substantial or adequate answer from any atheist or agnostic on that.

TheMirabillis Hi again Mirabillis, always good to hear your views. I'm sure we've spoken about this in our previous discussions. I don't know what happens after our hearts stop beating and our brains cease to function. From all the evidence I've heard, that's it.. as you say, life ends at the grave. Period. I can see for you, and a lot of other people, that sounds a pretty depressing thought, you would like your life to go on in some other afterlife. I can see that has a certain appeal. But the truth is, nobody knows for certain. Mankind has made up stories of the afterlife for thousands of years, every single civilization I'm aware of has invented stories via their culture of some type of afterlife, but I think these's stories are just mankinds inquisitiveness of not knowing ,so stories emerge .. the people who lived before you on the land in North America, the Indian tribes all had their own beliefs about the afterlife.. read up about it. What did they know about Jesus Christ or the God of the Old Testament?.. absolutely nothing. But as far as you saying "what does it matter"?, I believe religion has done a lot of harm throughout history, millions upon millions of people have suffered horrible deaths, there is a war going on in the middle east as we speak and people are being killed and tortured in the name of a holy book. Hitler had a massive disliking for the Jews as you know, I don't need to tell you what he did to them. To make it even worse for those Jews, the Nazi SS guards had written on their belt buckles the words "God is with us". Coming back to today, in your country many gay people are made to feel guilty for loving a person of the same gender.. this is all down to what the bible says. There is much wrong with biblical teachings, I believe it's wrong and it stifles human progress. You don't need God to be moral. Christianity had a very negative effect on my own life, so maybe that's why I'm so vocal about it. It matters to me that future generations aren't taught false teachings as I see it. Ireland voted to allow gay marriages 2 weeks ago, so things are getting better and we are moving in the right direction I believe. Prejudice and discrimination are bad things in society. 100-200 years ago black people and women weren't given the same rights as men, wouldn't you say society is gradually getting better? It's not a perfect world by any means, because of over population and a depletion in resources mankind will always struggle. Because I am going to die at some point doesn't negate my responsibility to future generations to try and leave the planet for them in a decent condition.
