I assist my daughter in her first woodworking project, a geared candy machine. A great intro to woodworking for a kid.

It's always good to see the family involved in our woodworking projects. It's especially nice to see a young lady interested enough to learn! Good for her and you too Dad!

Awsome. Just love to see you workk and teach your daughter some of your skills. Nothing better then to spend time with my kids in the workshop repairing and building. Still to this day I remember the feeling when I was a kid spending time with my granddad and my father in the forge. Offcourse ended up being a roughtneck heavy machinery repair old style my self.

good job getting your daughter involved in the shop. I did my best to get all 3 of my boys interested in as many industrial arts as I could, using it both as a chance to teach them, and to spend time hanging out. I wish more parents would spend time in the garage making things with their kids. it gives them self confidence, and self sufficiency that they don't get elsewhere. and Ivy, you did a great job. keep working with tools, and learning as much as you can, you will never be unhappy that you know how to do it, but might really wish you had learned someday if you don't.

I like your share shop time with your daughter, I did the same with my 3, but I see safety is on the lowest priority in your shop! Hair, safety glasses long sleeves, glad there were no issues this time!

Same here. When I was a kid and wanted my dad to help me he always said stand there and just watch. Needless to say I ended up learning majority of what I know by myself and since I didn't know about KZbin till I was about 15 I kinda did it as a trial and error before I learned. Got scars from saws, chisels and smash my left thumb about 20 times till I learned how to properly hold a hammer lol

Those kid fingers near the blades make me so nervous, but she's very careful and it's better to learn how to do these things at her age.

Ivy you're a lucky girl! Learn all you can from you dad. So many woman are making a very good living in woodworking and on youtube, check it out. I can't get my grandson in the shop at all. What a great project you and your dad built. I hope to build it some day too!

I know this was a long time ago but I'm watching today. I wear prescription glasses just like dad so I don't think much about it. Even so, sometimes the odd bit of detritus gets by the edge of the lens. Even so, they have saved me a lot of grief. I notice Ivy doesn't wear glasses. Eye protection is so important in the workshop. Even when you think the crud is only going away from you, like on the band saw, something can happen. Edit: I see she put some on while using the table saw...even so. Call me a "safety nanny" if you must.

Another safety tip..wear a mask when sanding. She is young easy to train now. And Dad it only takes a split second to lose you sight if a wood chip gets in your eyes..or your hair is ripped from your head when it gets caught in a moving part you dust that gets in your lungs. Safety is a pain in the ass but has saved many from injuries and death.

This comment is for your daughter! I juat have to know, how is it having the coolest dad ever? If I'm being honest though my dad was exactly the same and when I was young, everyday he found something he needed me to help him work on, so so it wasn't my favorite thing but now I can fix just about anything and even more after watching your dad. I have a sneaking suspicion your gender may give you an out on all that work! 😅😊

You have much more round objects in the lower parts than me. I would be extremely scared leaving my kids near saws without a ton of safe equipment.

I was so excited to try my hand at making this, but don't understand the gears or what to put in for the gear template maker. It only shows 2 gears on the gear template maker as well. Was going to make this for my godson for a present, but not sure it's going to happen now, because of that :-( Great job to you & your daughter thou & it's always nice to see someone working with their children :)

Good video. Cringed at the beginning with the hair down at the beginning, but it turned out to be a work of art. Ivy will remember her first wood project even after its dusty and broken just because it was with her dad.
