Yes I got touched. I remember the scriptures when it says that God was giving directions to Joseph through dreams to guide his family. Joseph was the leader of his family. Families need godly men 🙏🙏🙏

Joseph did you know the maid you chose already bore a child? That sounds odd to me. It sounds like Mary held some deep dark secret. That Joseph wasn’t in on the birth of Jesus. That he was in for the shock of his life that the virgin he married was more the town prostitute. Maybe you should rethink that verse and tweak it a little. Or not. But after hearing that line I’m afraid I can’t listen to the rest of the song! My most humble apologies!!

I had a similar reaction to those words and wondered what he meant to convey, but I listened to the whole song anyway which is otherwise very beautiful and thought-provoking. However, that opening line gives a very false and inaccurate picture as when Joseph took Mary to his home he had already received the message from God in a dream that Mary would bear a son through/by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Joseph's response BEFORE the angel spoke to him in the dream, was telling. He chose to treat Mary in a gentle manner in handling things quietly. As it is written, Joseph was a righteous man. God ordained and chose exactly the best for His only begotten Son. He and his life are an example of a righteous man. An example to all.

I have also always felt that Joseph gets little attention for his role in the life of Jesus. Did you know though that Mary's bloodline was not of King David? It was of Joseph's!!!! He was of the line of King David---of Bethlehem!!! No blood relationship!!! He was not lifted high, but he listened to the angels in the dreams from God. Being dedicated to God himself, he not only listened to the angel, he acted!!! Being a step-dad to Jesus, God knew would be a very important role---God picked well!!!!

So there was something that wasn't made clear in the history statement in the bible. Mary's lineage was the one detailed in Luke 3, you'd see that the David's son there was Nathan and in Matthew chapter one, it was Solomon. There's the difference. Joseph came from Solomon and Mary came from Nathan. There's no how Mary wouldn't come from David because that would defeat the prophecies if some contest it. But this doesn't reduce Joseph's fatherhood greatness. He's not the step father of Jesus, he's the earthly father of Jesus.

Incorrect! I have a copy of the Hebrew Matthew and the translators made an error in the genealogy. Mary's father was also named Joseph but in Matthew in our English translations, it assumes it meant her betrothed husband, Joseph (which is ridiculous because the Jews have kept detailed records for the coming of Messiah, and for the Levitical line as they will need this - they believe - when the temple is rebuilt). Luke gives Joseph's genealogy, Matthew in Hebrew, correctly proves that Mary is descended from David through Solomon. Joseph is descended through David's son Nathan. The Messiah was promised to David through Solomon.

So much Joseph had to do, deal with and work through. He had to find somewhere for Jesus to be born. Help Mary get ready for birth, assist in the birth, protect both Mary and the infant Jesus, use his country accented Aramaic with the shepherds and use probably what little Greek he knew with the Magi (who more than likely did not speak or understand Aramaic). Then create a life in Egypt- how did he communicate with the Egyptian people ? Then walk back to Nazareth and begin a new life again. In that society back then, it was all on him. But God knew all of this already when he chose both Joseph and Mary.

You know, as I think about this song it has such a wonderful and deep message. Joseph was the best example of a what a loving and God fearing Step- Dad should live like. Nobody thinks or talks much about Joseph's role in Jesus' upbringing, but were not for Joseph, Jesus would not have had a Godly example of what a God fearing man looks like or how he lives his life. Joseph was also Jesus' role model who showed him what a loving Earthly Father looked like! That's a HUGE and incredibly important role!! Thank you Joseph for all you did for Jesus! My husband is a Step- Dad to our now 25 year old and oldest son who has 2 daughters of his own now.

Joseph could probably more accurately be termed a foster father than a step-dad. I tried to capture something of his story in a play I wrote in 1975 with the title "The Foster Father." I produced the play with college student actors in a number of churches, and others produced it as well. In about the same time-frame (1982 Marjorie Holmes published her novel "Two From Galilee" which became a popular retelling of the human story of the holy family, based on the few clues we are given in the Bible itself. So the exploration of Joseph's person and role is not a brand-new thing. He was also characterized in folk-songs from earlier centuries.

Keep in mind Mary, Joseph and later the disciples were all VERY young people. Mary couldn't have been any older than 16, Joseph was maybe 18 max. The courage God gave them, and their willingness to follow and obey the Will of God both is an excellent example for all of us.
