To me, Light is a hypocrite. He has no right to judge people for crimes while he commits the same crimes. Whatever he was doing, it wasn't true peace, the crime rate went down due to fear, not a genuine desire to do good. Not to mention he was never doing it for justice in the first place. He simply couldn't face the fact that he made a mistake so he convinced himself he was doing what was right. That's how I see it. If you disagree, then I'm perfectly fine. Just please do not bash me for my opinion. People like that are just immature.

Gretel I disagree with you on multiple fronts but as a person that was using their morals to guide their comment I can't tell you, you're wrong. True it's hypocritical on Light`s part to kill criminals as he himself is a murder. (Matter of fact the most confirmed kills by him then basically anyone ever) Himself calling him justice is necessary for multiple reasons, one is if he was an inquisitor then he would just self destruct and lose support fast. Also a point of reference is "justice always wins because whoever wins becomes justice" therefore we are in effect brainwashed into believing a judicial system that other come up with instead of coming up with our own and sticking to it. Light was in effect breaking the mold that regular humans/governments use to keep everyone at bay. If anything this was a battle on two fronts. One of governments authorities in favor or against Kira's new reign showing if they are willing to pay their respects to this new law or fight against it for its breaches on "justice". And the second fight being that its light vs l/ light vs n with their cat and mouse games. Now to the main argument that is the reason I'm posting this. Is light correct? I believe the answer breaks down to three things 1) morals 2)methods 3)results 1) morals: light basically becomes a psychopathic killer. No doubts about it. At first he felt bad or more like he was shocked but kept going forward, none of the less. He killed innocents, his father, and impulsively killed "L" on tv because he was going against him, or to keep the lie as the truth. For morals light gets a 2 from 0-10 just because he does not kill criminals without discrimination but only the ones he judges. Morals:2 2) methods: Killing people straight up is pretty messed up but it's the only way that he's able to pass judgment. If it was more flexible it would be different. Methods:6 (mostly because that's the only thing he has) Methods:6 Results: To me it's always, show me the bottom line. The results are quite amazing. 1)No more war 2)70% crime rates drop 3) Countries supporting a single man. 4)countries helping him kill criminals. The results save way more then he kills. Personally if I had to kill a million people to save a billion then I would do it without hesitation. And that's how I view Light`s situation. Results:10! No doubt he did change the world. results:10 Morals:2 Methods:6 Results:10 Totals 18/30 Conclusion: y be honest most people will not read this but if you have then, light is a psychopathic killer who has little to no morals, whose methods pushes him the extreme and him adopting such a rigged law of aggression. However, the results you can't ignore. And if we must make one sacrifice for the greater good then so be it. Thank you good night. Also please comment, I love talking about this!

Same, I enjoy debating over these kinds of topics, though I can't stand it when some person just whines on and on without providing any backbone for their claims. That really gets on my nerves. I have to say you're not one of those people - your arguments are well thought-out and valid from certain points of view, if I alter my own personal "moral compass" (so to speak) a bit. In my opinion, Light gets a 1 in morals simply because I dislike the fact that he, to me, hides behind "justice" while he's really only satisfying his own ego. Besides that, he forces his own ideals on others and to me, the fact that he says anyone who opposes him is evil is straight bs. In my opinion, Light just wants to be a god and doesn't care about making the world a better place. In methods, Light gets a 7 because while I think killing is messed up no matter who you kill, there really aren't many ways you can erase any chance of your target causing more trouble. There's another reason why he didn't get higher, but I'll go into that in the next point (results). As for results, he does have a full 10 initially. The issue is that because Light was using fear to stop crime rates rather than spreading an actual desire to stop evil, and thus, the results don't last very long. The three-years-later one-shot reveals that crime rates and war shot right back up in the three years since Light died, so his efforts had no long-lasting effects. This may be why I really pity Light more than anything. Even though he did do some screwed up stuff and I think he never cared about justice, he did sacrifice a lot to reach his goals. I believe he was genuinely devastated at his father's death and that even killing L strikes some sort of guilt within him. What's sad is that his hard work ultimately amounted to nothing. He stopped crime rates for a good while (though it's kind of through tyranny in my opinion), but once he died everything he worked so hard for went up in flames.

Isn't mentioned at all and neither is essentially the entire second half of the show as neither Near or Mello are mentioned. Misa and her death note and shinigami are hardly referenced. It doesn't say that light necessarily succeeds or doesn't succeed in killing L either. It gives a very broad idea of what the show is about. Light needs people's names in order to kill them. L tries to stop the killings.. This is information that is passed on to you extremely early in the show. And while there are references Ex. I'll take this potato chip take some lives then I'll eat it is a clear reference that anyone who has seen the show will understand but those who haven't will be able to recognize it after the watch the show. (If they haven't seen it through memes already lol. Heck after listening to it again it doesn't even touch on the extremely important fact that he has to have their face with the name.

spoiler alert This song is actually very good but the thing that i hate is that in the actual anime.. Light dies at the end its just so sad and i was on lights side and i thought ryuk would help light but he didnt even hesitate even if it was the deal at the start , and yes light coudve won against near because mikami coudve just came in there and got everyones name and ran away and gave it to light after so he could kill near with the piece of paper he had in his watch. Its a terrible ending considering a lot of people want more and suspect there will be a season two. THERE IS NO SEASON TWO COMING OUT ok :) it was a interesting anime and the best one i watched but its a terrible ending
