It wasn't the scream that shows his talent. It was being able to do that then turn around and sing the softest notes you would think angel would sing.

@@nero8041 but it strains your vocal cords and switching from a low note from the scream to the higher notes of the singing takes talent. Have you ever tried to scream that long then turn around and sing soft notes right after? It takes major talent.

I remember when Chester passed, some people said “wow that was unexpected, nobody saw this coming”. Honestly, how blind can you be 🫠 It’s literally right there in the lyrics. He shouted it to millions of people. If he can’t be heard, how do normal folks get heard?

There is so much in that infamous 17 second scream that Chester does. It says so much without actual words. So often I have found that it never fails to comfort me, in my darkest hour, night or day. It shows that other people suffer too. When somebody wants to talk to you, talk with them. If somebody wants to hang out with you, hang out with them. You never know what somebody is going through. As someone who had an episode of reactive depression after a friend's suicide, I understand what Chester was getting at. Sadly, many people with depression are good at keeping it to themselves. Even when they speak out, as Chester did, others often don't know what to do and how they can help. Also, people rarely think the depressed person will kill himself or herself. It's the whole that only happens to other people thing. Thank you, Chester. You screamed for me when I couldn't and helped me feel less alone. You are missed.

@@fifixo1787 Chester held the scream for 17 seconds, not 27 seconds. Also, even though it's not easy to do, any skilled vocalist will be capable of holding a note or tone up to at least 20 seconds in one breath. So, it's not as inhumane to pull it off as some people assume it to be. Regardless, Chester was an incredibly skilled singer & he proved it everytime he went out on a stage to perform.

Looking back on Chesters death this song really stands out. Growing up listening to this thinking it was just hardcore. No, it was how he felt up until the end. This is how depression feels. His long scream in this song is possible partially because it’s him letting it out what he can’t express. Powerful stuff man. Rip legend.

He himself was the writer of the majority of linkin parks songs. Relisten to his songs. One after another we just seen it as his style. In reality Chester's feelings. Definitely something we could have prevented. Now we should use this as a lesson if you see someone acting off. It's better to be nosey than assume it's OK. R.i.p The Legend Chester Bennington

@@anonymousjeffry1864 The thing is, if you love them, and they love you back, they already know that you're hurting and they want you to talk to them. And if you can't talk to them for whatever reason they want you to talk to whoever you can. So that you can stay with them, because the world without your light in it is a dark place for them. I've lived with suicidal thoughts since I was eight. That's the first time I remember thinking the world would be a much better place if I wasn't in it. That's 31 years of self hatred. I know how hard it can be to get up and face the daylight. How painful living can be some days. I keep fighting for one more sunrise, one more sunset. Because I know how devastated my family would be if I gave up. I'm trying to get help finally.

A song so deep, this song tells the story of a person who is constantly depressed. (Of course you know what depression is) In the lyrics of this song, the writer (Chester Bennington) tries to explain that he has to struggle with himself, and fight himself because of the depression he is experiencing. Because he was so tired and hopeless of it all that he wanted to give up.

I think the heavy metal in this song really clouds up the fact that this song is EXTREMELY depressing. Like, really, REALLY depressing. Bennington screamed "put me out of my misery" at the top of his lungs and he MEANT IT. That's what made, and still makes, Linkin Park such a popular band: They spoke for people who felt this way.

I find it strange that many people never realized how dark this song really is.. In time of my worst depression I'd listen to this song to vent out my frustration at myself, "I'm my own worst enemy, what the fuck is wrong with me?" I felt like Chester knew exactly what I was feeling and wrote this song during those times.. I'm literally heart broken knowing he didn't make it though and that he took it upon himself to end his life. I can't imagine just how bad things were getting for him and with no one to listen to him he finally gave in 😢

who could really have helped chester? let's say mike shinoda..... okay, what chester was ASKING is something mike didn't want to give him out of respect. chester didn't want to be friends/bros.... he wanted mike to be his father figure and spend a lot of time with his "son"..... this was due to chester's bad childhood and he wanted mike in the father figure role in his life. chester literally asked mike, "will you be my dad?" in the 2017 interview at live nation uk. mike literally answered, "yeah."......... but it was awkward. if mike did act like chester's dad.... that's enabling weakness and also disrespectful to chester's autonomy. mike really didn't want to admit or live the reality that chester was THAT broken. music was just cathartic and helpful and not enough.
