I think I can speak for majority of LP fans, Chester helped us all not feel alone. he has the most angelic clean voice I’ve heard yet he screams like a demon. Breaking the Habit helped me, and I’m sure a lot of fans stay a little longer. Chester will always be in our hearts❤️

I still feel the loss. Linkin Park was one of my favorite bands and Chester was the main reason. So much emotion in his voice, and the ability to "scream" while holding a tune is just amazing. I still miss the guy.

I've been severely depressed since 2003 and heavily medicated with anti depressants since. Linkin park has continuously helped me through all these years, speaking and singing how I feel and what's going on in my head through every song. There will NEVER be another band like them. THANK YOU Chester & the rest of Linkin Park, for everything. I love you all & forever will 💜💜💜 RIP Chester, forever in my heart, you will always live through your songs 🙏

my grandmother (been in minor music businness her whole life) summed it up the best: you just cant mask emotion, no matter how well you sing. Chester always performed with all of his heart, he always wrote songs from his heart everything he wrote was his true feelings and whenever he got to performing them it wasnt technical mumbojumbo, he just let it all come out. many people try to teach "this type of singing" but it will never be the same.
@Hunter_Kennedy1

The thing is when it comes to “learning” this type of singing, you can’t learn emotion. You have to experience them.

The simplicity and repetition of instrumentation and the breaking vocals (for someone like me) is a metaphor for how repetitive "help" feels- we feel the same no matter how many times we're told to focus on something else. Our rythm can change (as the lyrics change) but everything still feels the same. Anger and hopelessness. The only change is in the lyricism, representing the deterioration of thought. And then the vocals, representing the anger that builds. Then we return to the same feeling that was there from the beginning, the cycle and feeling that nothing changes. Why change? Give up because nothing changes. Too many relate to this and are then judged for falling bqck into the cycle and this song encapsulates this perfectly

this version just hits so much harderthan the studio version just because you can see his condition the scream is split in two like he often did in live shows (there are some live 1 scream parts aswell, but they are rare cuz it was haaaard)

ive said this on another reaction to this video but the look on his face before he sings ( put me out of my misery is gut wrenching ) i honestly think he was live living his feelings for this whole song but i think right in that moment he was all in emotionally not just re-singing a song hes sung a million times and knowing what we know now it makes me feel so upset watching this despite it being one of the best performances ive seen live ( not in person - i wish) but i mean recorded live for us to watch

I remember the first time I saw them in concert. It was during their hybrid theory tour, I think One Step Closer was the only single out at that point, Chester was giving it his all like he always did and vomited on stage. Which led to Mike saying it isn't a real show until Chester pukes on stage. I miss Chester what a complete talent taken too soon.

In the studio version, he did the whole scream in one breath. Mike said something like Chester was having an incredible day vocally and was able to pull it off multiple times as they were recording it. 17 seconds of pure agony.

13:16 the guitarist looks so uncomfortable because he knows Chester is pouring out his heart right now. The band is amazing. And does their part. But Chester is bodying this song and the lyrics and the vocals. I couldn’t even imagine being the band members and finding out about the suicide.

Chester wrote the lyrics to this song just after getting out of rehab in 2005. This song is about what Chester felt during and after his divorce from his first wife Samantha. Chester brought the lyrics to Given Up to Linkin Park where the music part was created by the rest of the band to match the emotion Chester wrote about in the lyrics. During this performance he was showing the emotion of the song. Chester preferred to show emotion when on stage instead of doing the song perfectly every time.

@angelv-xxiii
@angelv-xxiii Жыл бұрын
I get you're a vocal coach but that doesn't mean that you have to point out the minor inconsistencies in Chester's singing/screaming. Especially while you're literally saying how you don't even care about any of those things because of it being Linkin Park in the first place. This is basically you "I don't care about this but I'm still gonna talk about it and pause the song way too fucking much while talking about a bunch of bullshit that absolutely no one even cares about." lol, like bruh
@HofTheStage
@HofTheStage Жыл бұрын
Well, somebody actually watched these videos because they care about those details, so I have to point them out. I don't care about them in terms that they don't change the feeling I get when listening to a song, but I do care about vocal stuff in general so I talk about them. Pausing is normal for these kind of videos, but if you don't wanna be bothered by pausing, go and listen to the song on their official channel, that's what I do when I'm not doing a reaction/analysis video.
