Yes Cory, at last someone is showing support for GivEnergy because I don’t think they get enough recognition. I’ve got their 3kw AC coupled inverter and 2 x 8.2kwh batteries. Fantastic system and company but my limitation is the 3kw inverter as I am going fully electric soon with an ASHP, this all in one unit (which I was aware of) might solve that problem providing I can also use my existing batteries. I also have a 9kw solar array and 2 EVs. I’ll get in touch to see if you’d be interesting in this project?

I’m no expert on home assistant but many have this working somehow

Ditto re the Inverter. I have a GE 3.6kW Hybrid & 9.5kWh Gen 2 battery on a 4.1kW array & the inverter limits what we can have running at the same time. I just wish this AIO had been out last year when I signed up for my system which was installed in March this year. Too expensive to change over the system after such a short time. I also assume this AIO system would need G99 DNO approval?

We have an one of these, such a well built unit, removable batteries make it so much more manageable! A template supplied for wall brackets now, save moving the batteries so much. We retrofitted the AIO/Gateway to our Solis invertor. For us, the commissioning needs to be simpler, maybe removing the charge/discharge cycle from part way through. I'd also advise using it on an LAN if possible. You also didn't mention the data link between gateway & AIO.

About time someone had a proper PW2 competitor., the previous 3.6kw inverter and battery solutions just weren’t discharge rated highly enough for proper home use or compact enough. I would have definitely looked at this if it was available 12 months ago instead of my PW2. Saying that however my PW2 hasn’t missed a beat and I got it installed within 3 months of order and before all the crazy price hikes.

I installed a AIO the other week, great product, mine was a nice easy install in a garage with the main DB next to it and meter the other side of wall. Few software issues to start with but GivEnergy monitored the system for a couple of days and updated it a few times to fix it. All working great now, it charges up at 7p Kwh durning off peak and discharged durning the day (the property uses nothing from the grid durning the day) the customer only uses around 70% of his charge. Very happy customer

Quick question do you have to inform your house insurance company, that you have a bank of lithium batteries inside the premise, because if there is a fire, the batteries could thermal overload and explode.
@corymac Жыл бұрын
Probably smart to check home insurance with any modifications like this. However these are not lithium ion phosphate ( LFP ) batteries that come in cars and other tech that are prone to thermal runaway, but are Lithium iron phosphate ( LiFePO4 ) which is a much more stable and safe chemistry.

It would be near impossible to truly separate your earthing system from the DNO’s. If you have a TT earthing system, all the neighbouring electrodes from the PME are still connected through the literal earth. The DNO’s earth should never be relied on though, thus the obligatory earth electrode installation in island mode.

As someout outside the industry but with electronic and technical skills. I have have significant concerns about the sheer complexity of solutions like this in a domestic situation. Both from a reliability and supportability perspective. How is your average homeowner able to do initial troubleshooting if the system trips out at 7PM? Multi layers of breakers, plus all the app stuff. How long until you can get a specialist on-site?
@anthonydyer3939 Жыл бұрын
I think this isn’t so complex. Worst case in your example is that you still have grid power. The chance of a system failure + grid blackout renders you in a state that’s no worse than before such an investment. But I do have home automation systems in my house, and I always ask the question: “If I sell my house, and this system fails, could the new homeowners fix it?”. If the answer is “no”, then the system is entirely removable.

@corymac Жыл бұрын
You could have a non backup board, just using the power before entry into the AIO. I think there is also an EV breaker in there which I assume is for added control of that but I’ve not found out yet.
@chrisyoung7362 Жыл бұрын
Good work Cory. Couple questions why exactly did the PV need to move into the gateway box, is it able to when you go off grid stop the PV from functioning I. E turning off the AC unlike the powerwall it adjusts the frequency which is a bliming nuisance because it will interrupt some electronics when the battery comes to full charge during off grid. And secondly is that gateway fully metallic? The powerwall gateway is a sticky point for me but I just don't believe they should be fitted indoors considering half the construction is plastic even if Tesla say its all good. This seems a better option in comparison expecially the modular batteries. Didn't realise Callidus are still around, fitted a few of their products and I'm sure they went under at some stage but I could be wrong

Gateway is fully metal. Solar AC is within gateway, so should keep inverter powered and working during a grid outage.

@24.40 So the rack mounted removable battery with no connector you have to do up thing isn't a new thing just a new area of application. They are a very common format in 19" rack mounting for use in big data centre uninterruptible power supplies, some of them can be hot swapped as well. Which is where I suspect this idea has come from. Also rack mounts are common as a mounting method for power distribution and dimming systems in the entertainment and live event industry. Often with a permanently mounted Harting multipin connector on the rack and the module. These are often 3 phase 63A per module and 4 modules a rack on 400A Powerlocks.

My only fears/complaints about tech that is registered to an installer are the endless issues when there is a breakdown, they are too busy or if they go under. This is the same scenario with all these "Smart" alarms and services. Why can't they reverse the role - make the customer the OWNER in the portals and they can assign the service agent/manager? So company X installs and is given the rights by the owner to maintain. Maybe not an issue with this, but it's never clear.

Does the battery lend itself to being installed without the GW? I’d consider installing just a battery in an external garage. Whole home pass through and backup? Or selected circuits? I’ve not found anything on a domestic level in one package really. Victron is also fantastic, but a little less friendly for a domestic level client
@Geyer128 Жыл бұрын
@@corymac goodwe and sma use a backup output. So theoretically it is possible to put multiple circuits on the backup channel. Sma supports 13kw 3 phase on the backup port in the ongrid mode. Goodwe support in ongrid mode exactly the same as off grid, depending on the inverter. Fronius uses a backupbox and not a Backup port. The box disconnects only the 3 phase and not neutral. So it depends on the neutral/pe connection inside the meterbox. So it also needs an earth rod. Huawei also has a backup box, I didn't really look into that solution, because it will only run single phase backup, even with 3 phase inverters. Huawei backup box has an option to disconnect the neutral and internally connect neutral and pe. Just for on grid inverters, especially without batteries, I like them a lot. I do not know if these solutions are allowed in the UK market.
