Abby Cox: detailed, researched recipe for pomade and powder, and the knowledge of someone who has done it time and time again. Rachel: Just having some fun with it and showing that you can try these styles without having extensive experience with them. Both are valid. Both are great.
@shelbyb99652 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The number of "Abby Cox wouldn't approve" comments on this video are kinda upsetting tbh. Do we really need to gatekeep historical fashion so tightly that only those with degrees and decades of research experience can partake in a bit of recreation fun? Don't get me wrong, that's totally a great thing and we as the general public wouldn't have the kind of knowledge we do about historical dress without people like Abby. BUT that is not the only way to appreciate and take part in historical dress. Not everything needs to be 100% accurate all of the time always. Historical costuming is intimidating enough without people being super uptight about minutiae that straight up do not matter in cases like this. Sometimes it's just for a laugh and that's okay! I think encouraging people to do things like silly recreations without worrying about accuracy could spark the interest of folks who could one day go on to educate and inspire even more people!

I watch a good amount of historical fashion videos, so when she was doing her hair, I felt like there was something off but couldn't really place it. It was about when Rachel said "...I'm wondering if [the hairpiece matching] really matters when we start adding the hair powder" that I suddenly remembered that you are supposed to powder your hair BEFORE you style it. On the other hand, dry shampoo is basically the same thing, so close enough I suppose! XD sidenote: hair powdering is where "powder rooms" came from! Since they did it regularly (about once a week I think), some houses had a specific powdering room to contain the mess.
@jessiejvr17832 жыл бұрын
What was the purpose of the hair powder? Is it suppose to stiffen it and hold it in place?
@VioletDraconia2 жыл бұрын
@@jessiejvr1783 It does help with the tall hairstyles, and make the hair softer and more voluminous, but the main reason is hygiene. They basically pomade and powdered their hair instead of washing it, which absorbed the oils and kept the hair smelling nice from the scented powders. If you get powdered hair wet, though, it sticks together and you might have to wash it all out and start over.

LOL Gotta say, I love it when you go all whimsy in the whole look. And Nick has got to be one of the coolest guys around. Kudos to you both for living lives of fun and exploration without meanness. Blessings to you both.

Now I only dream of Rachel & Micarah Tewers' collab in robe a la francaise dresses (probably as Barbie Movies characters) P.S. Yay for Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers as OST!

Gee whiz, I love how much fun you’re having here! Also: “I had to listen to the call of the wild” is my new favorite way of explaining my own puzzling decisions.

Ugh this is a masterpiece! I had such a good laugh, but holy shit, the shots at the end were beautiful. Everything I want out of content so thank you, Rachel!

Because I am without the pantiers and field and hair powder I absolutely delighted in this dress up. Loved it in fact. Thanks doll. This was the content my soul needed.

The song while you were powdering your hair is one of the ones they use when you're on hold for the NHS in the UK. So nice to hear it in good quality!!

Eating a little lunch watching a little Masky. Good day! Thanks for making my Friday's brighter. Hello to Binx, Sir Frodo, and Nicholas! Hope you all have a good day and I hope Frodo got Nick a really good Father's Day Gift perhaps a premium bone of sorts.

Heads up, you got a huge shout out from young KZbinr Karolina from the Czech Republic,in ep 26 of Hand Crafted Homestead. She aspires to do videos more like you! Did you realize what an excellent role model you have been for young girls and women to be themselves unapologetically? Keep up the good work, doing what brings you joy, gives us all a much needed boost in self esteem and serotonin!😻

@@lamoinette23 || I guess they're talking about another KZbinr? Edit: I looked it up. The channel they're talking about is "Handcrafted Homestead" (like they said in the video title so it was easy to look it up). And nope, that channel is not meme-mom.

Loved seeing her wing it (dunno if she realized that dry shampoo was actually quite a good modern-day substitution for period hair products), would love to see her get a proper 18th century makeover from Abby Cox and or anyone else from that circle with an ensuing frolic

Fun video! I particularly laughed when the caption of what your cat said was about world domination - my cat has the same view - & when you were sitting eating a hamburger with your undone hair piece sitting on top of your hair, which was hanging down. That was quite a comical image. "Sprinkle yourself like the beignet you are" - my favourite line of the whole video. I say "pannier" the French way myself, but everyone has their own way of doing things. What a lovely spot in which to sit in your Rococo garb. It's a fantastic look for you, & the scene was like out of some historical romance movie.
