Why use ubuntu mate instead of Ubuntu?
@giacomoburani9043 Жыл бұрын
Hi everyone, I'm really new to robotics and I'm using these amazing tutorials to learn a bit more about ROS. I'm a bit stuck on the talker-listener demo for two machines. I'm able to ssh into my pi (Raspberry Pi 4 model B) from my developement PC, but when I run the talker program on the Pi, my PC doesn't hear anything. Any help is appreciated.
@giacomoburani9043 Жыл бұрын
solved!! I ran the command: sudo ufw disable on both machines and now I'm able to communicate

I'm glad you were able to get it going, I'll have to tuck that one away for my own future reference!

I guess the funny thing is RPi is still in short supply. I can use laptop instead anyway.

Oops, sorry I didn't reply! Yeah, unfortunately they are a bit hard to get a hold of at the moment :/ The good news is, as you say, we can start development on a different computer, even running simulations etc, and transfer the code to the final hardware once it's available :)

Excuse me.May I ask a question? Does the plugin of Gazebo can only be written by cpp?Can it be written by Python?
@ArticulatedRobotics2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I've never actually written my own Gazebo plugin (one of the great things about ROS/Gazebo is that it comes with so many that I haven't needed to), but yes, to the best of my knowledge Gazebo plugins must be written in C++ so that they can interact directly with the Gazebo backend at a low level.

Doing simulation only on my end, but I figured there's a lot of good info here so I'll take a look anyway. Great tutorial project, excellent first build! Thanks for making it

I have seen the most of videos of this journey, but I have a question, can I use my raspberry as the main of all the programming? I mean, I can install Ross there and make all the stuff program instead of use a laptop or desktop with Ubuntu? Thank you so much for you support and all these videos
@Mr-lw7gy Жыл бұрын
For running software like ROS/ROS2 should be no problem assuming you aren't doing any heavy CPU load like SLAM etc. For programming I would try to find a cheap/used laptop. It would be a much better experience. When it comes to running simulation like Gazebo on the PI I don't think it is too easy and very limited.

Great video! Anyone have any tips for finding a raspberry pi or jetson? They seem to be pretty hard to come by these days.
@ArticulatedRobotics2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Unfortunately you're right, there is a bit of a shortage these days - I'm glad I got mine a couple of years ago! If you happen to be in Australia, Core Electronics usually has at least some models in stock core-electronics.com.au/raspberry-pi-4-model-b-4gb.html (and their warehouse happens to be in the same town as me), but perhaps some other viewers will have ideas on where to get one internationally.
