As the head of family engagement in Washington state’s Federal Way Public Schools, Trise Moore helps parents navigate a large bureaucracy and puts them at the center of the district’s decisionmaking. She has helped the district pioneer and expand its outreach to parents from all backgrounds and empower them to be full-throated participants in advocating for their children in their schools and shaping policy across the district.
“I decided I was going to learn from the families that people were calling ‘hard to reach,’” Moore says.
