As far as the frogs, the fact that the girl is trying to compromise and the boyfriend won’t move an inch makes me wary for her. She asked if she can keep half (instead of three) and he said no. She offered to pay with her own money for them to have a Frog Room, he said no. He’s decided without her input that she MUST keep exactly 3. Everyone should be suspicious of partners who can’t even try to meet you in the middle.
@ava_lavender
@ava_lavender 3 жыл бұрын
I think asking her to keep only three instead of none of them is a compromise. Also keep in mind that we only have the girl's side of the story and maybe he did try to further compromise. That said, with only the girl's side of the story, I probably would side with her.

@@ava_lavender You don’t decide on a compromise by yourself, you and the other person work on it together until everybody’s satisfied. Also nothing about the story leads me to believe that she would gain anything from leaving out other attempts to compromise on his end.

@@darkangel012299 I was specifically referring to the "won't move an inch" part because he did offer a compromise. The post didn't seem to include why he didn't want her to have more frogs, and I wonder if that's because she doesn't know or didn't include the information. Either way, I think more information is needed to make a judgement.

For the frogs situation: you don't get to start dating someone who has an interest or a hobby or pets and then tell them that you don't like that thing so they have to compromise for you. If you don't like something, that's fine, but you don't get to enter a relationship with someone who does and demand that they have to change that thing about themselves for your comfort. Keep the frogs, ditch the dude.

I'm trying to put myself in that position. If I had four dogs all well cared for and by bf asked me to rehome 2. I'd be beyond upset, I'd be absolutely hysterical. Trying to see it from his perspective... I have a gf who has 20 spiders as pets. But, in that situation if they so generously offered to pay extra for another room to keep the spiders so I didn't have to deal with them. I'd think that was the sweetest thing, and I'd agree to pay half of the extra costs of that room. Heck, I may even offer to pay for the extra room myself since she's making that compromise for me. Yeah, I fail to see it from his perspective really. She's already tried to compromise and I thought she was being very generous. If I were the GF I'd probably get rid of him. If I were the BF I'd want a compromise that kept us both happy.

@@Stettafire Yeah, I think if you're getting into a relationship with somebody and that person already has 20 spiders and you hate spiders, that's on you to choose where your heart lies, not the other person. Because, at the end of the day, your home is your pet's home and if someone comes into your home and says "change this or I won't be with you" then I will not be with them. Someone else will come along who likes my 20 spiders and helps me take care of them.

Once after a bad breakup I found a post from my ex about me on r/relationships. It basically boiled down to, “she asked me to leave her alone, should I honor that wish?” And almost all of the commenters told him that no, he should pursue me to “let me see how much he cared.” There was one single person who told him to back off, and that person got downvoted into oblivion. Not surprisingly, he ended up stalking me.

That’s a very common issue, it’s prevalent. A lot of people think if you try hard enough or want it bad enough, you’re entitled to it. And to a lot of men (and women), that applies to potential romantic partners. I’m sure the responses on the: if I buy her food will she love me, are varying degrees of “keep trying, you’ll wear her down eventually”. It comes from a lot of rom coms, I think,where there are men who are persistent when the woman is clearly not interested or has said she’s focused on work or whatever, and they keep following her around and trying to get her to like them and then there’s a big grand gesture and she changes her mind. It’s a control thing, they want power over you. Big red flag if they can’t respect your wishes, the things you clearly tell them, and think you’re just a part of their story they want to force to happen and try to dominate you as a result. Unfortunately it leads to a lot of stalking, manipulation, and domestic abuse in real life.

For the frog story: she needs to leave him. He is being controlling. Forcing her to act in a way he wants. It definitely is a power move. No one should force you to get rid of your beloved animals. She isn’t hoarding frogs, she rescues them. 14 frogs is nothing compared to what others have. I have 4 African Dwarf Frogs, but they are tiny and live in a fish tank, but I wouldn’t hesitate to get 10 more. I also have 3 dogs. Three dogs that all have their own expensive medical issues. Right? Like what’s the retail value on a used pair of shoes? Even if they’ve only been worn once and are in spectacular condition... Probably not worth the lawsuit. I think it would make sense for him to pay some money but I think if she’s trying to do a lawsuit she would have to get a really expensive lawyer to win the case and that would without a doubt cost more than she would get for the shoes and for that reason I highly doubt that any lawyer would be willing to take this case pro Bono... if they were like million dollar shoes or something and the person was financially able to cover the damages then that’s another story. A lot of the time you need to look at what a reasonable person would expect in that situation. Was it implicitly stated that the shoes would be safe in the entry way? Was the shoe owner doing her due diligence to ensure that her shoes were not ruined? Was it reasonable for him to assume that she would be bringing 1,200 dollar shoes to his house? Had the monetary value of the shoes come up beforehand? I would argue that you do assume some risk when you take your shoes somewhere no matter the price for example if you go ice skating and someone steals your 10,000 shoes from the cubby where you left them it’s not typically up to the rink to pay for them because you assumed some risk by taking off your shoes and putting them into the cubby and the ice rink may be responsible to cover a reasonable amount for the loss of your shoes but at the end of the day they offer the cubby holes but do not claim they are a locker/will keep your personal belongings safe so it would be stupid to take super expensive shoes there.. but I’ve only taken a few business law classes and am def not a lawyer so I might not have a feel for the situation

That 'simp' comment makes me so sad. Since being in quarantine, my boyfriend bought me Holo Taco for my very iso birthday, and one of the happiest times in stage 4 lockdown in Melbourne is just having a date night once every two weeks where I paint my boyfriend's nails with Holo Taco as we watch Disney movies. He likes showing them to our friends and he's even asked that I paint his nails when we finally have his mum over for dinner. I can't imagine what life would be like if my boyfriend not only refuses to indulge in fun nails but just public displays of affection like holding hands or doing anything nice for me just for fear of a stupid label. (To be fair, his friends are not the type to be assholes about stuff like that because they do not conform to gender binaries/expectations. You do you as long as you're not hurting anyone, is their general motto.) Sending lots of love to the OP for that 'simp' post.

In the US, from a legal perspective, he is responsible for replacing her shoe. He would only have to pay for the value of the shoe at the time of the incident (which could be more or less depending on how the value of gucci shows fluctuates). If he had homeowners insurance I believe he could use that. But she would absolutely have legal standing to sue him for damages since it occurred due to his property (his dog). You can argue whether its a dick move for her to ask him to pay, but a judge would most likely have him pay.

The woman has every right to be upset that someone else's dog destroyed her property regardless of how rich she is or how poor the dog owner is or how expensive the property is. Honestly the frog question made me very sad. And I feel for her. It sounds like she is being extremely reasonable and has more than one suggestion to compromise with him so she can keep her frogs. He said "you can only keep three". That was his one rule for her to live with him. I know we don't have his side of the story but I get the feeling this guy doesn't have much respect for her passion and just kind of puts up with it. Even if he doesn't understand it personally he seems unwilling to understand what it means to her. Re-homing pets is so heartbreaking. He doesn't get what he's asking her to do. Personal story! My husband has an intense passion for carnivorous plants (I know its very specific haha) and while living together we have had to discuss how many plants were reasonable in a small apartment. There was always something we could do. And the most important thing is respect and understanding. He understands and respects that we can't keep buying plants to fill up every room. I understand that this is his passion and we should have some dedicated space for it. These plants are not my thing but its a beautiful hobby and it gives him so much joy. Caring for these frogs give this girl so much joy and purpose. I hope he can agree with one of her suggestions that doesn't put her in a lot of pain.

I’ve never bought any luxury items (shoes, bag or anything) and I think I would be scared to carry something so expensive around as well. However, I strongly think that just because someone owns a luxury over priced item doesn’t make it okay for you to assume that it’s okay to not pay for the damage you caused to their item. Even if it is difficult for you to pay for the entire sum, I think you should at least offer to pay for a second hand price for that item even if you have to pay them little by little over a longer period of time especially in a situation where it was completely your fault the item was damaged... regardless of how wealthy they are it’s their choice whether or not to say they don’t need a compensation and it doesn’t seem right to say I can’t compensate you because you own ridiculously expensive things..

speaking to the frog situation: my grandparents at one point had 13 cats, mostly because my grandmother is a huge animal lover. they started out with a few of their own, and then strays would always show up to their house for food and they would eventually take them in if they couldn't find a home for them. their friends and coworkers also learned how many cats they had, so eventually anybody who knew them who had a cat they couldn't keep would just pass their cat on to my grandparents lol. it definitely wasn't my granddad's idea but he has always been very supportive of my grandmother and it's honestly really sweet how they've taken care of all of their animals together. their relationship is one of the sweetest I've ever seen. as long as they're healthy, your partner should support your interests!

The shoe question is almost exactly the plot of a Sex and the City episode where Carrie went to a party where guests were required to remove their shoes. At the end of the night, her shoes were stolen and the host of the party was berating Carrie for spending $500 on shoes. In the end, the host paid for the shoes. He should definitely pay as his dog damaged the shoe. Unfortunately, it is a lot of money, but they are still responsible for the damage caused while in their home.

But like... If you don't have the money, how can you pay? Are you taking a loan, or making a payment plan with a random hookup? I know I'm extra careful with my shoes, purses etc. when there are animals in a household. Just because I know animals are animals. Cats will sometimes pee in purses and dogs will sometimes chew up some shoes. Or at least potentially. But then again I also disagree with that Sex And The City episode. I wouldn't hold the host personally responsible for someone stealing my stuff. I would expect them to provide me with a list of the guests so I could contact the guests myself.

If someone doesn't want to kiss or be intimate with someone for any reason, they shouldn't have to and shouldn't be made to feel guilty if they don't, even in a long term relationship. Many people are absolutely grossed out by many foods and putting your mouth on someone who just ate something that makes you gag or puke is really unpleasant. It's not that hard to either give that person the time and brush your teeth before you ask for intimacy or just not eat that thing around them. It's not that hard but guilting and forcing your partner to do anything with their bodies that they don't want to isn't right

I can't look at jelly because I get stuck thinking about how it feels. It's so disgusting. If someone in my house wants jelly I say "Eat that away from me." Where I can't see, hear or smell it. Grosses me out knowing it's in the house, but it's not going to touch me, I don't have to eat it, or interact with it in any way. Consent is absolutely key. No matter if she's interacted with a trigger food/ item or not, but that's kind of a seperate thing. That's absolutely not fair, but he can't control what she eats or yell at her while she does something he doesn't like if she's trying to do it privately. I have a big phobia of getting my blood taken. I have panic attacks sometimes with minor triggers like a band aid on the inner arm. It makes me really uncomfortable just to hear if my boyfriend was getting a shot or going to a blood bank. That doesn't mean that no one I ever live with is allowed to go to the doctor or donate blood. Even though that makes me uncomfortable, as long as they are trying to reasonably keep it away from me, I will never berate or control them. I know that phobias are something you can't control (I have a couple major ones), but that isn't am excuse to be abusive. It's your problem to work through and others shouldn't be punished because of it. For the frogs thing: 14 frogs is a significant amount of enclosures. That means a lot of outlets for heat fixtures, lighting, filters for aquatic species, and humidifiers. That many enclosures, if properly maintained, all adds up in electrical bills and sheer square footage in an apartment. Frogs are loud, so are the sheer amount of crickets you need for 14 frogs. My sister has 2 frogs and we buy crickets 100 at a time. 4 frogs is a being a hobbyist. 14 is being a pet hoarder. It sounds like she’s in her early 20s and only started this pretty recently. I think scaling back the number of frogs kept is a completely reasonable compromise. He’s not saying no frogs, he’s saying that’s too many. And frankly, yeah.

About 16:38, law student’s perspective - a person is liable for the actions of their animals and, accordingly, he is indeed liable for the damage to her boots. As she had not been to his house previously, there is no reasonable basis for her to expect that her shoes would be destroyed by his dog nor is such behaviour to be expected in the ordinary course of life. Furthermore, even if she had previously been to his house, he stated in the Reddit post that such an incident of his dog chewing up shoes has not happened in years - she would not have reasonably expected this to have occurred. Accordingly, it cannot be said that she knowingly undertook any risk for wearing her Gucci boots to his house nor should she have been afforded a lower standard of care so as to justify the dog’s behaviour and circumvent the imposition of liability on the owner. The fact that he is unable to afford $1,200 shoes is immaterial to whether he is legally responsible for the damage caused to her boots. Otherwise, many criminals would be vindicated on the grounds that they cannot afford to compensate the damage they caused - it’s just logically inconsistent with the service of justice. In other words, he’s gotta pay. Literally.

Based on my experience in the kink community, the bf who likes to feed his gf sounds like a kink and he could be into the Daddy/Baby dynamic. I know some people have a main relationship where they don't engage in that kink and have a baby on the side. Everything is above board and everyone is consenting to the relationships. That dynamic not my thing and I am not into polyamory or sharing my partner. If it were me I would have some serious conversations about boundaries and limits to this kink to find some balance where we are both comfortable. That second question is a Sex and the City episode come to life xD What she needs to do is marry herself, register with Gucci, and only tell this guy, who DOES owe her for the shoes. It may not be his problem or business that she bought or was given a pair that expensive, but he is responsible for his dog's actions. He asked her to take them off, and knows his dog has had a history of chewing up shoes. The dog may have been more reliable as of recent, but there are clearly still behavioral issues that this guy may have been negligent in noticing. And it's not this girl's responsibility to ask the guy if he has a dog--she may not even have seen the dog when she got in or knew if he had one at all, and the average person has no reason to think their personal property won't be safe when they stay at a person's house. (Granted, yes, the argument could be made that she should've gotten more info, since this sounds like a one night stand, but I still don't think this is unreasonable to assume.) I sympathize that he can't afford to pay her right now, but he does owe her money. They'll just have to work out a payment plan.

If you have a dog that chews shoes, you can't also have a "no shoes on in the house" rule. If you're gonna say that all visitors must remove footware, you have to give a secure location for the shoes where the undisciplined dog won't destroy them. Guy owes her $1,200 shoes.

I'm just saying if I had $1200 shoes and I had to take them off in a house with a pet or kids I would ask for them to be either shut up in a closet or put them somewhere up out of reach.

As a dog owner, regardless of how much the shoes or item costs, it is the dog owners responsibility to replace whatever was destroyed by your animal. Just because they cost 1200 dollars doesn't give us to right to judge the girl that owned them just because she owned them. It is his responsibility to replace the shoes, or she can and should sue him as he was an irresponsible dog owner and should've known the possibility of any dog to chew anything regardless of how much they cost.

I agree he needs to pay her back for the shoes. It also doesn't matter where the money for them came from, they're still an investment in herself that she made and clearly, they were important to her, otherwise, she wouldn't insist that he pay her back. At the end of the day, his dog ruined her shoes, and he is responsible for the animal. Also, I wonder how they would react if it was a different expensive object, like are they judging her because they're expensive shoes? What if it was something else?

I think it’s more the fact that she asks that he pays the full amount if he has explained he doesn’t have that kind of money. I know me living in Canada on minimum wage and almost half of my money monthly is my rent for my one bedroom appartement. So it would take me a pretty crazy time to put that money to the side. And maybe that’s just me but I don’t think the person in the scenario would be fine with the guy taking 6 months to give her the money back. What if the shoes can’t be replaced because they were limited edition ? Is it about the money or about the shoes in that case ?

She can sue, but most likely wont win. You take the chance when you go on private property that you can be injured. This includes damage to your personal property. I know it sucks, but she should have paid better attention in where she put them.

@@CharlotteeSmithhh It seems like the shoes were a gift from her sugar daddy, not something she bough herself. And you can't pay for something with money you don't have. Its not like his attitude was "tough shit" but that he really can't afford to pay 1k for her shoes, and I couldn't either.

@@CharlotteeSmithhh not the full amount surely, she likely didn't buy those shoes as a sugar baby. They both didn't assume something like that would happen and no one working average jobs/salaries can afford 12k shoes replacement on the jump. I think she needs to be more reasonable in a way to come to some reparations but not the full amt. That's way too much to expect.

In reference to the young woman who’s BF was lying about being a doctor. Point of fact most hospitals in the US who have residency programs have them listed in an online directory. For example my husband is currently a resident at a large research hospital and when I googled his name and program he was the first google result. So it’s pretty easy to confirm if he’s a doctor. Big question is if the hospital he says he’s at even has a residency program. In the US they typically are only at larger public or private hospitals. That being said resident schedules can be very sporadic depending on their specialty. Also if it’s a large hospital and the if the BF is not in her uncle’s specialty he might not interact with him at all. So would definitely do some more research before confronting this guy.

I dated a guy with a foot fetish- it actually IS the case that people with that fetish view feet as a sexual organ. That is, their brain reacts to feet the same way it reacts to seeing breasts/booty. So in her case, I’d probably recommend wearing socks at home. Also I’m DYING at the soup cat story 😂😂

The issue is that any dad that's attracted to his own daughter is effed up, kink or not. Daughters cover their breasts in front of their dads (and mum's, most typically too) because of social convention in cultures that sexualise breasts. But ideally/ healthily/ from basic decency, it shouldn't really be an issue. For instance some families are nudists at home, and nothing awful should come from that.
