As someone who owns a ball python, I immediately noticed the snake wasn’t quickly slithering out of the tube, indicating some level of comfort with the idea of having legs. The vestigial remnants of its actual legs may be just a claw, but deep down something in their brain may be all too familiar with the setup.

Honestly one of the main reasons snakes evolutionarily don’t have their legs is because A, they adapted to not needing them by being constrictors or water snakes or B, it’s a lot harder to see a ‘belt’ in the ground slithering slowly than something that swings it’s legs like a Dorchester whore while walking

Based on my own snakes I'm assuming the snake in the video did get comfortable and felt safe, it probably didn't want to go in because it was clear more than anything. Now, I don't necessarily think it has the brain power to comprehend it had legs, but it did in fact experience some sort of stimulation as it was so active and curious!

It was immediately obvious to me what the problem was. The snake would get halfway through the tube, when it could see out the far end, there was Allen's big head staring and waiting. The snake probably thought it was a trap. The snake thought Allen was waiting to bite and eat him. All the snake could see was that face, and those eyes staring and waiting. I would have turned around too. Once Allen moved his big face away from the far end of the tube, then the snake went all the way through on the first try.

You should install a warming pad along the bottom, lengthwise to encourage the snake to want to go in tube. It will also act as positive reinforcement. Also consider a cooling fan. Also adding pressure switches on one end, on both sides of where the head would be, might alow the snake to turn the mech-suit by turning its head.

Got a bit of a story here. My mom’s used-to-be friend bought a snake back in 1991 for the whole “ooh a snake” factor. She named her Monty. For reference, Monty *IS* a Ball Python. Monty Python? You get it. But sadly, this lady did not take proper care of Monty and used a human heating pad on her. Monty was one inch long at the time, and the heating pad burnt her entire body. She had all the proper care after my mother took Monty away from that mean lady, all the shots, medicine, you name it. The doctor said that the best-case scenario is that Monty would lose her tail. Happily, that never happened. Monty is a happy snake, measuring to five feet long, and still has a tail. She has a few little spots on her belly where the scales still haven’t grown back. When Monty was in her childhood years, she used to rub her eyes a lot. My mom could never get her to stop. Sadly, she has an eye problem now. Monty has scars on the outer shell of her eyes, so sadly, she can’t hunt too well, nor can she see good. Me and my brother grew up with taking care of Monty, and she’s very fond of people. Mainly, kids. I think she knows that children won’t hurt her. Monty is 30 years old and still kicking. I always wondered what those little brown things were on her butt. Thank you for educating me, for my mother and father had no clue! Edit: I have a bearded dragon with half a tail, can she get a tail extension device? 😂💀

I think the same. I'm scared of snakes but also think they look cool. I worked in a dish room a few years back and one day, I heard some co-workers screaming that there was a snake coming out from the floor drain. It was a baby gardener. Very small. The head chef picked it up, and I caught a glimpse of it close-up. It had the cutest little tongue. It was released outside, but I kind of wanted to take it home with me and keep it as a pet.

Just so you know, male lizards also have hemipenes (and legs, generally speaking). So the hemipenes are NOT the vestigial legs; they are reproductive organs. The genitals in reptiles are like that because they develop close to the back legs (or where the leg spurs are, in the case of a snake) in the embryonic stage.

I've actually worked in a morph shop that focused mostly on balls before. As long as their conditions are maintained, so that it is a comfortable environment, they're pretty lax most of the time, even if their container seems small to us. That being said, Colubrids were the bane of my existence and I hated any time I had to open their boxes because they were so jumpy compared to the rest, so many punctures in my thumb webbing-
