The chrome studs and wire wheels were the 💩. The black studs and cast wheels aren't heritage, or classic.
@michaelconran52523 ай бұрын
Spokes look better BUT mag wheels are easier. No tube is a huge plus. A tubeless tire can be plugged on the side of the road. You don't have to chase spokes either. After about 30,000 miles spokes become a pain in the ass. My wife's Slim has about 50,000 now. Just had to get rear respoked when two broke. My Street Bob looks amazing with spokes, but I plan on getting mag wheels.

I have a 99 Evo springer (the silver striper) I went old school because I like the character and think that most “technology” is a) more stuff to go wrong, and b) just a way to make simple things complicated. Mine is 95% original (Has billet twin pot callipers) so one has to be happy with the size of your nether regions because you’re never going to be first away from the traffic lights, but it plonks along at 55-60 and does what it says on the tin. 👍

The only experience I've had with a Heritage was about 15 years ago. I rented one in Maui and did the road to Hana with my 300 lb ex on the back. I can tell you that it was a good days work. Then we came back around on the dirt road. (Don't tell the rental co.) I liked the bike a lot. It was comfortable and handled well, even on the dirt road. It was a chore working it around all of those hairpins with the extra weight, but a great day nevertheless. Wouldn't trade that memory for anything. I'm not a big fan of spoke wheels these days. I like the look, but they're a pain in the ass. As far as engines, I don't have any experience with the M8, but you can't go wrong with an Evo, and I've grown to love my carburated twin cam. I ride mostly back roads these days, so I prefer an FX to an FL, but the Heritage is a great bike and a classic for sure.

I have no regrets at all with the bike or any of the buying/ownership experience over the first year. It's all worked out awesome and that's something that's hard to say about a lot of products and dealing with companies today. I'll call myself lucky and keep running with it. If looking for a better handling and more manageable bike than a heavyweight touring frame that can still do some light touring, at least test ride a Heritage or a Low Rider Softail.

@chrismartin500 Yeah, they look really good on garage queens. Back in the '80s, I hit a piece of 4x4 lumber at 70, right at dusk when yo can't see shit. It bent my spoked 21" rim into a V on both sides that you could touch the tube thru, but the tire never blew out. It then went under my skid plate and picked the front wheel up off of the ground before spitting it out, and my "stupid looking" 16" ape hangers allowed me to put enough leverage into the bars to keep the bike up. A mag would've shattered to shit, and low bars would ripped right out of my hands. You keep the mags, the big screen TV and all of that other stupid shit you people stick on motorcycles nowadays. Ride Safe.

I rode a 93 fatboy and then an 09 softail custom for years. In 2018 I bought a new Roadglide Ultra to see what the whole touring bike craze was like and to try out the new M8 engine. The bike was great and I enjoyed it until this spring 2024. I missed being behind a set of chrome bars and a chrome headlight. The Roadglide fairing is wondefull but honestly with all the plastic, stereo, navigation and stuff it just reminded me of being in the car. It is a heavy machine too. Having been on softails for almost 30 years I missed the simpler more raw biking experience. This Spring I traded the Roadglide ultra for a 2024 Heritage Classic. The M8 114 has great power, and the bike has a much sportier feel to it but yet you can still tour on it very comfortably. I think the M8 is a great engine. It's very torquey, smooth and responsive. I love it so far.

Ordered a new, 1989 FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic; Candy Bronze and Creme two-tone from Biff's Harley-Davidson, New Cumberland, PA. Still remember picking it when it came in. Own a 2019 Billiard Blue/Billiard White 114 Heritage now. Objectively, the '19 outdoes the '89 in every performance metric... If you can say Harley has a performance metric, that's not what theses bikes are about. Subjectively, the "89 Evo I had kicks the '19 in the back side. The proportions of the '89 and its perfect "fit" of the Evo engine in the frame was better. Even the stance of the "old" Heritage bikes were more aesthetically pleasing. However, that cool stance meant not such a great lean angle. Position the '19 for a corner and its telepathic steering holds the line exceptionally well. The new Heritage's ride quality has to be experienced to understand, it's that good. I ride for 2-3 hours before wanting to dismount. Then, there is the sound of that beautiful Evo, engine, sorry, but I think it's the best sounding engine out of H-D in the last 40 years. Would I rather keep my M8 or retrieve my '89 Evo? Hands down, I'd drop my '19 in a heartbeat and opt for the venerable Evo.

There was virtually no learning curve going from RK to the Heritage platform. That 114 was a beast compared to my 96ci -even with the stage I! Handling and turns were basically the same too, no issues tackling those death trap mountain roads😵 I would consider picking a good used one up in a heart beat if I wanted to unload my RKC -not form quite some time though😉
