Did Harley-Davidson do the Milwaukee 8 version of the Heritage Softail Classic justice or do you still prefer the Twin Cam and Evo years of the Heritage?

The chrome studs and wire wheels were the 💩. The black studs and cast wheels aren't heritage, or classic.

Spokes look better BUT mag wheels are easier. No tube is a huge plus. A tubeless tire can be plugged on the side of the road. You don't have to chase spokes either. After about 30,000 miles spokes become a pain in the ass. My wife's Slim has about 50,000 now. Just had to get rear respoked when two broke. My Street Bob looks amazing with spokes, but I plan on getting mag wheels.

I have a 2023 blue and grey, with the blacked out look. I absolutely love this bike. I also own a 2013 Street glide. That bike sat in my garage almost all summer. I think I rode it once last season. The Heritage is just that good. It's the best handling Harley I've owned, and I've owned a lot of Harleys. Milwaukee 8 in 114 is a great engine. The new soft tail frame is great. I could go on, but you get the idea.😊

The early Evo and twin cam Heritage absolutely nailed the original Harley style with developing technology, the 1st Softail frame has something that the M8 one never will, It just sits different and is closer to that rigid look it pays homage to.

I have a 99 Evo springer (the silver striper) I went old school because I like the character and think that most “technology” is a) more stuff to go wrong, and b) just a way to make simple things complicated. Mine is 95% original (Has billet twin pot callipers) so one has to be happy with the size of your nether regions because you’re never going to be first away from the traffic lights, but it plonks along at 55-60 and does what it says on the tin. 👍

I just got a 2024 Hydra-Glide Revival, which is a throwback nod to the old 1950s Hydra-Glide panheads. It’s actually a Heritage Classic all decked out like some of those others you showed, especially in the Evo era, with their conches, frills, and gorgeous two-tone tanks. I totally love it for its style, and for the Heritage Classic body and components.

I bought my pristine 99 Evo Heritage in 2018 with just over 21k on the odometer. It may be the best $4k I ever spent. In fact, there isn't a single bike in HD's showroom today that I'd take in its place. I have a couple riding buddies that have dropped more $ on their exhaust, tuning and Chinese chrome skulls than I did for the bike and they spend more time chatting with me about my bike than they do about theirs.

The only experience I've had with a Heritage was about 15 years ago. I rented one in Maui and did the road to Hana with my 300 lb ex on the back. I can tell you that it was a good days work. Then we came back around on the dirt road. (Don't tell the rental co.) I liked the bike a lot. It was comfortable and handled well, even on the dirt road. It was a chore working it around all of those hairpins with the extra weight, but a great day nevertheless. Wouldn't trade that memory for anything. I'm not a big fan of spoke wheels these days. I like the look, but they're a pain in the ass. As far as engines, I don't have any experience with the M8, but you can't go wrong with an Evo, and I've grown to love my carburated twin cam. I ride mostly back roads these days, so I prefer an FX to an FL, but the Heritage is a great bike and a classic for sure.

I've owned several Harleys in the past, but a 2023 Heritage was the first Harley I ever bought brand new last December. I have no regrets at all with the bike or any of the buying/ownership experience over the first year. It's all worked out awesome and that's something that's hard to say about a lot of products and dealing with companies today. I'll call myself lucky and keep running with it. If looking for a better handling and more manageable bike than a heavyweight touring frame that can still do some light touring, at least test ride a Heritage or a Low Rider Softail.

@chrismartin500 Yeah, they look really good on garage queens. Back in the '80s, I hit a piece of 4x4 lumber at 70, right at dusk when yo can't see shit. It bent my spoked 21" rim into a V on both sides that you could touch the tube thru, but the tire never blew out. It then went under my skid plate and picked the front wheel up off of the ground before spitting it out, and my "stupid looking" 16" ape hangers allowed me to put enough leverage into the bars to keep the bike up. A mag would've shattered to shit, and low bars would ripped right out of my hands. You keep the mags, the big screen TV and all of that other stupid shit you people stick on motorcycles nowadays. Ride Safe.

I rode a 93 fatboy and then an 09 softail custom for years. In 2018 I bought a new Roadglide Ultra to see what the whole touring bike craze was like and to try out the new M8 engine. The bike was great and I enjoyed it until this spring 2024. I missed being behind a set of chrome bars and a chrome headlight. The Roadglide fairing is wondefull but honestly with all the plastic, stereo, navigation and stuff it just reminded me of being in the car. It is a heavy machine too. Having been on softails for almost 30 years I missed the simpler more raw biking experience. This Spring I traded the Roadglide ultra for a 2024 Heritage Classic. The M8 114 has great power, and the bike has a much sportier feel to it but yet you can still tour on it very comfortably. I think the M8 is a great engine. It's very torquey, smooth and responsive. I love it so far.

Ordered a new, 1989 FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic; Candy Bronze and Creme two-tone from Biff's Harley-Davidson, New Cumberland, PA. Still remember picking it when it came in. Own a 2019 Billiard Blue/Billiard White 114 Heritage now. Objectively, the '19 outdoes the '89 in every performance metric... If you can say Harley has a performance metric, that's not what theses bikes are about. Subjectively, the "89 Evo I had kicks the '19 in the back side. The proportions of the '89 and its perfect "fit" of the Evo engine in the frame was better. Even the stance of the "old" Heritage bikes were more aesthetically pleasing. However, that cool stance meant not such a great lean angle. Position the '19 for a corner and its telepathic steering holds the line exceptionally well. The new Heritage's ride quality has to be experienced to understand, it's that good. I ride for 2-3 hours before wanting to dismount. Then, there is the sound of that beautiful Evo, engine, sorry, but I think it's the best sounding engine out of H-D in the last 40 years. Would I rather keep my M8 or retrieve my '89 Evo? Hands down, I'd drop my '19 in a heartbeat and opt for the venerable Evo.

A friend of mine had one with a 103 in it. I don’t remember the year. It was a nice bike. He even let me ride it once. As nice as it was, I wouldn’t give up my Road King for one.

I've never rode a Heritage Classic that doesn't have the Milwaukee Eight engine. I have a 2018 Heritage in Vivid Black with the 107 cubic inch engine. I added quite a few accessories and made modifications to it (stage III for more torque). I love the bike! It's nimble, maneuverable, quick and lighter (great for older guys like me) than a touring bike. I appreciate the vintage look with the spoked wheels. If you take the rear seat off, saddle bags off and windscreen off, you pretty much have a Heritage Softail Deluxe.

I’ve always loved the heritage, those big swooping fenders are classic I already have an 96 softtail springer so I recently decided to pull the trigger in a 2020 heritage with a 107. adding a full cam chest/oil pump/cam upgrade next week and I expect to be very satisfied. I have the evo for weekend cruises and events and now the m8 can be the work horse for long distances and daily abuse

I'm pretty sold on my 2017 Street glide, but I sure like the looks of the heritage classic. I'd have to ride one to see how they compared.

One thing about the evo Softail that stops it from being a serious contender as a tourer is the vibration Studs and tassels have never been very popular here in the UK but the black and white CowGlide Heritage Classic is probably my favourite for looks

I prefer the older style of the Heritage. I had a 07 and loved it. I replaced it with a full dresser but the Heritage was a great bike. The only thing I didn't like was the low ground clearance. You don't want to get into a corner to hot on one. Later

A couple years back I rented a '22 Heritage with the 114. We did a 500+ mile trip from Phoenix to Oatman on route 66 in AZ. Honestly I loved the bike -wanted to try something different from my 08 RKC. I agree -the spoked wheels look better on that bike than cast rims. There was virtually no learning curve going from RK to the Heritage platform. That 114 was a beast compared to my 96ci -even with the stage I! Handling and turns were basically the same too, no issues tackling those death trap mountain roads😵 I would consider picking a good used one up in a heart beat if I wanted to unload my RKC -not form quite some time though😉

Twin Cam Heritage is my favorite motorcycle of all time. I owned a 2002 for many years. I loved the 88 and I have a 2017 now I love the 103 high output. I hope it out lives me. I really Don t want a new Harley. My 1st was an Evolution Sportster. I love the 88 Twin Cam carb bikes. However my 103 is a great bike. I enjoy riding and working on the bike.
