I put this video up as unlisted a while ago and just kinda forgot about it, saw it again and thought I might as well publish it!

So it’s kind of like what robonagi does. I wonder what would happen if they got low enough that the voice was affected. Would it have weird glitches? Of course they wouldn’t be like a furby’s glitches, because furby uses LPC, and these use recorded sounds. But I guess we wouldn’t find out unless it was in the test mode because at that point, they would be too low to move the motor.

What is LPC?

It’s a way of taking recorded audio and processing it so it can be generated by running code that the speech synthesis chip can use to play back the audio. It’s made up of different kinds of beeps, pops, clicks and static noises. It’s not the highest quality, but it takes up a very small amount of space. And it allows you to change the speed and pitch of the audio without decreasing the quality. I read in an old furby chat that Dave Hampton used this functionality to change Shelby’s voice to sound more male, even though he was originally voiced by a woman.

@@RobotMopper wow! Thanks for the explanation. I had four different 1998 Furbies and three of them had completely different voices but spoke at the same speed. My tiger striped one had a very high-pitched squeaky voice, my cheetah print one head kind of this middle of the road voice, and my tie-dye one sounded very husky and horse. He was the creepiest when his batteries ran down. I think his name was Dumo. Random question. So are the baby Furby‘s voices closer to the original woman’s voice before it was digitally sampled?

This is really interesting, thanks for sharing!

Poor thing! Lol! It was really struggling. One thing I noticed, its voice wasn’t affected the way a Furbies would have been with the batteries that low. What’s the difference?

I think that Gizbo just uses recordings rather than a speech synthesizer of some sort, so it doesn’t really garble or anything like Furbys!

Hmmm I have a space Robby that does the same thing but I changed the battery like a couple days ago.
@thepurpleendereye2 жыл бұрын
Ah, was it doing that when you first put the batteries in or after a few days? Cause Gizbo killed new batteries overnight a couple times, but has since stopped doing it thankfully. I also have a Space Robby that’s just slower than Gizbo, so it could just be how it is.

@@thepurpleendereye When I first got him and put batteries in him he was working just fine. But in the next couple of days he kinda slowed down to the point where he couldn't move his bottom platform on his own. I recently put batteries in him and he still does it. So I guess that's how it is.

How did you fix gizbo?
@thepurpleendereye4 ай бұрын
Not all that much was wrong with it! I took the stomach cover off and then I pushed one of its gears while batteries were in to get the motor started. It did have an awful smell though, so eventually I opened it and cleaned every part the best I could.
@SkullsYoutubeChannel71524 ай бұрын
Is it possible to spin the motor or gear when taking the stomach cover off?
@thepurpleendereye4 ай бұрын
Yes! It is a little harder on Gizbo because it isn't clear, but you can on all of the RoboNagi shaped fakes. Gizbo also has some more wires than other robotic fakes so you may have to push around them with a screwdriver or whatevr you use to push the gear. @@SkullsKZbinChannel7152

@thepurpleendereye4 ай бұрын
@@SkullsKZbinChannel7152 yes, space Robby and Gizbo are completely identical other than their boxes afaik. I have both and I can’t find any difference
