Gizmo the Grey Bird Vet Update

I gmailed an exotic avian veterinarian last night because I love Gizmo. I got a message from her today. She said she was familiar with Gizmo !! She hadn't heard of his accident. She said it often happens that normally talkative parrots pause their talking following an accident, trauma, life change, etc. With recovery and time, they usually resume their talking. She wishes Gizmo the best and hopes he'll resume his 'platform ' on social media soon. I hope you aren't mad that I asked her. I just couldn't snap out of the sadness/tears. I live alone, disabled, and you all are very dear to me, it seems! 🩶 grey heart for Giz!

I am a bully breed/giant breed/medical/hospice dog foster. I frequently get in dogs who are sick or injured and have to nurse/recover them back to good health. The behavior you are seeing in Giz is what I frequently see in my sick/injured fosters. It looks to me as though you are doing everything right. More often than not, it just takes time and patience. Just continue with what you are doing and don’t push him too hard to get back to normal. He will get there in his own time and move forward when he is able. Bless you for the love and wonderful care you are giving him. The emotional support is everything for recovery❤️❤️

My African Gray flew into a wall once and she stopped talking for several days. The vet suspected Ruby had suffered something similar to a concussion. She slowly started making noise, and then talking, and soon recovered completely. I can definitely relate to how scared you were. I'm hoping Gizmo makes a full recovery soon. ❤ Love to all of you!

I'm glad the vet went well. I don't know much about birds but he seems alert. I hope he feels better soon. He's been part of my feeling better in my sick time. Sending that energy right back to him. Seriously I started dialysis and wanted to be done with life. Watching his videos and going on the lives helped me out of that funk so much. So I'm sending that back to him and hopefully he'll be telling us to squawk off soon.

We had a yellow naped parrot for 27 years. Hand fed from a hatchling. If you clip the bottom flight feathers of one wing they'll just spiral down to the ground when they try to fly. It does not hurt them and it keeps them safe. Our Kelly also had an accident one day and after the stun of running into the wall wore off, over the next week she still wasn't talking or singing. Our avian behaviorist advised that it could be a lack of confidence from getting hurt while trying something new. They are intelligent to know that it could happen again. We just took things slow and exposed her to more and more things that she was used to and really praised all the progress and she got back to being herself in about a month. It's just like with a child falls down and skins their knees for the first time. It hurts and it's scary. You just got to show giz that he can get back up, shake it off, and start running again. Sending you all our love. ❤

I totally agree with you. I would always keep them clipped its to much for me to risk losing a bird i love so much. We are they minority, for some reason most bird owners would rather not clip the wings. I don't understand it. I love my pets with all my heart and protect them every way that i can
