Great video, I just started trying the Smith-Morra after playing the Alapin for a bit, and was having trouble finding threats at times to compensate for the gambit pawn. Now I hope I remember these for actual games too. that's the hard part!

Priceless explanation. Even though I sometimes play this, I never knew there were so many continuations and traps. Also, good job on 100K!

1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Nxc3 Nc6 5. Nf3 d6 6. Bc4 Nf6 7. e5 dxe5 8. Qxd8 Nxd8 line, where play continues with 9. Nb5 Rb8 10. Nxe5 e6. You recommend 11. Nxa7 as the more accurate move, but I think your line allows Black to castle, unmolested, and 11. Nc7+ Ke7 (forced) ties Black in knots. The King blocks the Bishop, and the Kingside pieces are temporarily on the sidelines. And after 12. Bd2 (threatening 13. Bd4, MATE), Black can try either: 13. ... Kd6, threatening both Knights, but White has 14. Nxf7+ and the King's Rook, and White has 15. Bf4+, skewering King and Queen's Rook; OR Black 13. ... Nc6 14. Bb5 and Black needs to do something about the threatened 15. Bxc6 bxc6 16. Bb4 Kd8 (forced) 17. Nxf7+, forking King and King's Rook. Hope this makes sense. Just trying to piece it together without a demo board in my head. Just seems like you're missing some tactical possibilities for White. But, as you say, the 6. ... Nf6 was not a good move in the first place.

GJ goes 0-0, where I would just go Nc7+, basically.

Hi GJ at 22:05 you suggested Qxd1 and 12:Nc7+ however it is bad better is 12:ef7+. I know its that you meant to say but in all the excitement you called it the other way, that is us being human.

Hi, I love your videos, thanks for all the hard work. Playing a guy who has twice responded with A6 before going to e6. What would you recommend to do in that position. Also can I ask how to access the pgn? I cannot see where it is or how to download it. I think it will get to a position similar to the one you described around 16 minutes. Thanks so much

Take in d6, bc4, 0-0, etc, ur rooks have two open ranks in the middle, that enough compensation for the pawn on d6 which is isolated and will be a target

@12:17 when bishop captures e6+, instead of blocking with the rook, why not just move the king to h8?
@psymon38235 жыл бұрын
Great puzzle question. if Kh8, then Rd7 anyways, forking the queen and bishop, white gets back the piece and pawn he gambited and with a better position

Do you ever live stream games? Also, best might be just 6...a6 for black. Daniel King recommends this in his sideline sicilian dvd and white has to play very accurate to even get a playable position.
