I watched this video kind of expecting more of a "This is a cool neat thing" and got met with "Remember to have fun, enjoy yourself because that's what's important" and a part of me I think needed to hear that. It's been an absolutely grueling few years and jumping back into Destiny after a friend convinced me to give it another shot I found myself falling in love with dumb things like spamming forever solar grenades with sunbracers. I appreciate this video in its entirety and I genuinely hope one day I find a blinking warlock who hits me with a devour while standing in a solar grenade.

@@Gjerda this was how I ran Astrocyte back when I used it, it’s a lot of fun and the mid-Super movement tech is still intact like Eggegdh said above. You do the Astrocyte blink, then hit shift twice for forward momentum, and by then you can Astro blink again, rinse and repeat till you’ve crossed the map. (So: jump->shift->shift->jump rinse repeat) It’s genuinely that fast and far, very hard to deal with. Its only downside is vulnerability while charging your explosion on your descent to the ground, but the upcoming little buffs to Nova Warp should be of help. Enjoy the third form of Super flight in D2, up there with top Dawn movement and Thundercrash!

I hope this reaches the inter workings of bungie. So good. So insightful. They get feed the "nerf stasis or im quitting" and "dont nerf TTD or slide" rhetoric by the vocal minority. This feels more genuine and authentic to how probably a good sized portion of the active, dedicated Destiny player base. It definitely resonated with me.

it should be pretty obvious that Bungie intentionally make the new stuff overpowered to try to encourage pay to win. They do it repeatedly. I enjoy the gameplay, but I don't enjoy the slimy tactics and the lack of interesting content

blink uses vector mapping, basically it maps out your entire jump in a parabola upon press, if your vector hits an object it will terminate at the point of clipping, so that's why you can leap to the top of a cliff (the parabola wraps over the edge) but can't blink through an object.

I got medically discharged from my last job due to my health. Unfortunately, my condition is not only chronic, but deteriorating. I use gaming a way of coping with the intense unending pain, and depression that comes from not being able to work or be the "provider" for my family. It took some time, but eventually i also learned to play just to have fun, and ignore the winning/losing. If i'm not having fun, i either get better, change my loadout, or go to another game. I thought this was going to be a super intense video about how to do a blink build perfectly and slay out with it, but found myself drawn into it and suddenly hit with the feels and reality. Very well done, and i think i'm going to beat my head against the blink devourlock for while now. :D

Don't forget the point of the video, don't bang your head against the setup if you aren't enjoying it! I never enjoyed d2 blink sadly despite loving it in D1, but I've found that I love top tree void with burst glide (which I used to hate the lack of control with) and Contraverse. The aggression of zooming around the map and the satisfaction of landing a perfect Grenade throw and watching the energy tick right back up to full and the enemies melt is what clicked for me, but it took some time. Time getting the arcs right. Time getting the movement right. And it's fun. I've used that build much like he used blink devour, all season long, in everything.

Thank you for the exceptional video. I came for the D2 content and stayed for the message. I lost my dad in May of last year. With that, as well as everything else going on in my life and the world, I think I was pushed past my ability to actually cope with it all. Burying myself in Destiny was a subconscious way of giving myself space from grief, anxiety, and depression. I’ve spent so much time on the game over the last year, much of it building my Scrooge McDuck vault, although I tend to think of it as my Lonely Mountain. But, lately, I’ve been making a pivot into more lighthearted and less grinding gameplay. I’ve been asking myself why I’m really doing this and what am I hoping to get out of this game or gaming in general. I think I’m on the way to being where you are. I’m thankful for your words and to be able to learn about your journey. Having felt so many of the same things makes my mountain feel a little less lonely. Cheers.

High Skill Ceiling != High Difficulty. Skill ceiling is about maximum skill expression. Skill FLOOR is the term you’re looking for. Blink Devourlock has a high skill FLOOR because it’s difficult to use, and a high skill ceiling because it’s very skill expressive. TTD has a LOW skill floor but a HIGH ceiling, because it’s easy to use but possible to maximize in ways less skilled players won’t.

This video is beyond amazing… I came here for the blink bits but stayed for your introspection. Now I don’t have nearly as much time invested as you, but your point resonates. I became obsessed with earning the unbroken title, and it was mentally exhausting, I would be thinking about my game performance afterward, while no longer at the console. Letting a pursuit in a video game affect my mood in real life was horrible. You are 100% right about playing for fun, it’s so easy to forget that. If you’re not having fun, that’s the complete opposite of what a game should be. The funny thing is, that correlation between having fun and playing better is very true. When you’re just in the flow and your mind is at ease because you’re enjoying what you’re doing, you naturally perform better. It’s true for gaming, as it’s true for sports, as it’s true for work or relationships or anything else. I feel as though this video should be mandatory watching for every destiny player. Thank you!

This is the kind of community that I love to be a part of. I love Destiny’s community over any other. Personally, my enjoyment from the game comes in the form of challenging content and grinding unique challenges. All those nightfall triumphs that no one knows exists? I’ve done them all. There’s an exotic ghost locked behind solo dungeon? I have it. Raid seals? Seasonal challenges? Catalysts? I want all of it. And even though that results in me pouring 25+ hours into the game every week, I don’t care, because I’m having my own kind of fun. Not many of my clan mates share that mentality, and I’m happy about that. I play with “Day Job Dans” every day and they’re some of my best friends, regardless of their skill level or in-game goals. I’m glad everyone has a personal way to enjoy this game.

I immediately gravitated to blink when I started playing. I thought I was actually teleporting so I figured it would be OP against snipers. Despite picking it for the wrong reason, it ended up being the right choice. It lets you get nova bomb off at weird angles, it lets you get behind or around cover super fast, it feels super cool, and most importantly it allows for clean montage transitions. I also went for devour first, as I know how important self healing is for solo content because of all the time I wasted on WoW. I don't play warlock as much anymore, but when I do it's a real treat to blink around and frag out in whatever mode it may be

I'm not even really playing Destiny at this point... I just happened to search up a few vids about the new season and this video showed up in my suggestions... And I'm so glad... This is a wonderful video that seemed to speak to me directly. Thanks man.

I keep coming back to this video about once a week. I love destiny, but the game became a grind. So I tabled the grind. I let go of the FOMO of “I NEED this weapon this season!” And I’ve never looked back. I also main Devour BlinkLock, but the serenity of letting go of the pressure of the grind was so freeing. Love this video.

Great video and wonderful tie into the regular life. So many people don't understand how my D2 community and clan kept it head sane these last few years. I love and appreciate all of them.

I literally don't think I've ever commented on a YT channel. I respect the hell out of your new view point, it's the exact one I went through around the same time you did, for a lot of the same reasons you did. I admire you even more, because you verbalized it, made a video and shared it for others to see. Sometimes, it's not all about winning and losing, but about having fun. Love the vid, you got a new sub.

Started watching this video to figure out it if I should start maining blinklock but quickly started to think about how why I play Destiny like you talked about towards the end, and you talking about your experience really puts things into perspective and was such a positive message and helps create a good mentality.

Hearing that was so refreshing. These past few weeks have been very stressful as I'm starting online schooling for my degree and my family's living situation keeps shifting. Destiny's been there throughout that time and has been since I started it back in vanilla D1. With everything happening in the world and all of the terrible things people do it's so nice to see someone with such a clear understanding of themselves and their personal happiness. I may not be at that point yet but it's more clear than ever that that point is an obtainable one and it's worth working towards. Really appreciate this video, time to join the discord B)

Man, this hit me like a truck. 2020 was one of the worst years on my end, due to a deployment that lasted almost a full year with no port visits. With very little outside communication, and very little to do (in regards to blowing off steam), I really felt like I lost a large part of myself. I tuned in, because I had seen a lengthier vid, that talked about one of my favorite games, and it made me break down. Keep up the great work with your vids; looking forward to future content as a sub!

Never come across your content before, but super impressed. Well written and structured, clearly well informed. I've been using blink since D1 and this is not only a great introduction to the ability, but into the mentality surrounding games as a whole. Introspection, mental health awareness, and the active pursuit of fun are sorely lacking from so much of the Destiny community, and the PvP gaming community in general, and I'm beyond impressed. Keep up the great work dude, all the best

THANK YOU. You understand. You know why many of us play and why some of us avoid certain types of pvp. I try to avoid trials because it isn't fun. Winning in the playlist burns me out and tears my mental state. Trying new weapons and builds is what made me happy in pvp. The number of flawlessess shouldnt be what we gauge ourselves on. It should be the dedication and the teams we have fought and overcome. Agh I cant sum it all up in just a comment. But still. Thank you. Im sending and sharing this to all of my friends to explain it. Stay well everyone.

I really needed to hear this. I'm at a point in my life where all of my coping mechanisms no longer help. I'm 28 (midlife crisis? Absolutely.) and no longer have bipolar disorder. I grew out of it and never really caught on because of stress and the "take your medicine" mentality of my family. I have struggled to enjoy pvp in ANY game for a while now, my best friends are MUUUCH more chill than me (my outbursts can lead to naughty words that delete your twitch stream, sorry Biscuit.) and i just get so thoughtful in the moment that i forget why i play. To have fun. I was almost in tears here, and when my friend, and ironically a streamer also Spitiyah, told me this too. Point is, thank you, for your inspired words of advice. From the bottom of my warlock main heart. I will now, learn to master blink. I actually never really gave it much thought after D1. Lol over 100 days of D2 playtime, and i never thought of a movement type OTHER than glide.

As someone who's been in a super rough spot mentally and emotionally for the better part of 7 months now, the "Why I play Destiny 2" part at the end of the video, really resonated with me a lot. Sometimes I forget that the thing I love most about games is the escapism, the journey, and the friends I make along the way. It's so easy in grindy live-service games like Destiny 2 to get so caught up in your own goals that you forget to do what you genuinely find fun. Games are entertainment, and my favorite form of it. So it really is true; if you had fun, you've won :) I've always mained Voidwalker since D1 but haven't tried Blink since Rise of Iron, so it'll be fun to try out tomorrow after work. Wonderful video though, thanks for sharing :)

This video was infinitely more inspiring and motivating than I ever thought it would be, thank you for this honestly. I know a lot of people need to hear stuff like this these days.
